Joker was actually Heath Ledger's worst role. He was a much better actor earlier in his career before Nolan and that stupid role killed him

Tried way too hard, overacted, overwrought, over-written, intentionally tried to take over every scene, took away from the script, the other actors, characters, leaving the only memory at all from the 2nd movie of himself and his performance. Acting is supposed to be a part of the movie, not the movie. Add on that he was pressured to basically kill himself by Nolan trying to be something he wasn't by being in character 24/7. It led to this overacting we see a lot now with people trying to hit home runs with every line, instead of just playing the part. I'll always remember 10TIHAY, A Knight's Tale, Casanova, Brothers Grimm, and Brokeback Mountain as the best Heath Ledger roles, before he was drugged, corrupted and ultimately killed.

He starting taking them because of the role, so that's why people say that. A lot of people think that if he hadn't played the joker, he'd likely still be around today.
This was always my favorite scene in this movie. I had watched it before but another time with my crush and turns out months later he asked me to prom like this. He had our school band learn the song as he surprised me and sang to me during lunch all around the tables, even wrote his own verse for the song. He knew I loved this scene! The best part was his voice cracked during the chorus, he forgot lines. That's what made it cuter. Ugh swooning!
