  • How to lower PSI on a wastegate w/ out opening it up. This is a factory HD wastegate from a 87 Buick Grand National set at 18-19 psi. I needed to lower the PSI to 4-7 PSI.

    OMG you're a genius. Thanks for posting this up and saving me $75 for a new wastegate actuator.

    i was going to run a spring on the waste gate arm to a seperate mount. This is so much better . Nice work.

    Awesome job and thank you for sharing! I'm building a quick spool valve for my mustang and want to use a stock gn wg because I have one. Alos have a lot of springs laying around. Was going to buy an adjustable unit but this is the way to go. Saves me $50 for sure.

    Thanks for the idea! I need to lower my WG from 10 down to 8ish. I think im gonna find a spring that will get me down to 5 and then use a boostcontroller to restrict some of signal to get up to where i need it.

    Anyone know the specific kind of spring? Hard to find one on amazon :((

    Alternatively, could you put on a tension spring to increase cracking pressure? Just curious. It's an amazing simple yet effective mod.

    I'm actually in the same boat as you. I have a 1977 Dodge D100 with a 225 slant six that I am turbocharging with a Garrett T04 from a GN. I need the boost to be set at 10psi max as that is the most boost the stock engine can handle daily driven (which it's not going to be daily driven, but whatever). Where did you get the spring from? And do you just compress the spring more to lower the psi?

      sounds like a good setup and I understand what you are saying about the "daily driver" status. If I remember right, I think I found that spring at a local Ace hardware store. They had a few in stock that were the right size (diameter, length) all in different compressions. You have to test it to find the right one.
      Yes, the tighter you make the spring compression, the more it will "assist" the waste gate actuator > lower the psi required to move it.
      After I set it up, I got it to open around 5-7 psi and then I added a VooDoo MBC to make it spool faster and then blow off at 10psi. It works great in combination.

    Doesn't less psi equal less horsepower?

    • @oiledbronze
      @oiledbronze Před 6 lety

      Yes, the wastegate is a safety release valve for the turbo to prevent overboosting

  • @jayrq2o1
    @jayrq2o1 Před 10 lety

    Yeah. He probably not using it on its intended motor, or just wants low pressure for more economy. There's a few reasons why I guess.
