  • Hunter and Todd walk around the property at areas where mulching has started. Mulching removes invasive trees and brush that are not beneficial for deer bedding and nutrition, as well as other animals.

Hunter, I enjoy you and your dads videos and wildlife concepts. I would challenge you guys to adapt your property to help bobwhite quail populations and native grass introduction in your thinned pines. You will enjoy hearing bobs whistle when they start showing up! Keep burning!

Yessir. That is a good idea. We have seen and heard the quail in our switch grass areas. We plan on burning in the pines and mulched areas this spring. We hope to see a jump in quail numbers! Thanks for the comment!

What are you going to do about the sweet gum saplings growing in the pines that were thinned out? Is there a herbicide that will remove them or will burning knock them back?

You could use broadleaf herbicide but that would kill all broadleaf's. We plan on burning to remove them. A video is about to be published on hack and squirting. That is a method we have been using the past month to remove sweetgums and maples with a hatchet and herbicide. stay tuned
