And it was the only way I could play JFG without my younger brother annoying me.. Hand him the 2nd controller and he gets to shoot things as Floyd, while I play the actual game :P
All this is really making me want to boot up my old N64 and check out where I left off my save.. I think I only had 2 levels where I hadn't found every Tribal, so I never got the real ending :(

Ah yes, I remember this. My brother and I discover it by accident when he got stuck on the mantis brothers boss fight as he eventually run out of ammo. We where curious about Floyd, stuck a second controller for me and starting mashing buttons to find out it has a pitiful gun but has infinine ammo, so we ended up having him move Juno side to side to dodge the bosses while I shooted at them with Floyd.
      Those were the days...

Floyd's blasters were the same stuff you used for the Pistol, but they were unlimited and you could even control your rate of fire by how fast you mash your buttons.
Unlike the Pistol, Floyd doesn't have to wait for recharge after the 5-6 initial shots.

The Jet Force Kids cheat gives them the appearance they were supposed to have in-game at a certain point during development. In the beta, Juno and Vela were indeed supposed to be much younger. Ants as Pants transforms the drones into Mr. Pants, another Rareware character referenced in many different games. The character eventually got its own puzzle game on Game Boy Advance: "It's Mr. Pants".

The last two (new) Resident Evil games had written summations of where you were at in the game during loading screens. It's unsettling to think about the amount of work and writing that went into those, that will never be seen. The only possible way to read them all, would be if someone were to move from every single minor set-piece, saving and reloading the game, just to read them.

That reflection from the bucket of water is even more impressive when you realize it was probably made via instancing the scene. So there's two versions of that scene being rendered: There's the one that you're seeing and the other is mirrored under the character. That means if you were to take the camera and clip through the ground, you'd see the character models and room as it appears in the reflection.

To this day, Jet Force Gemini's orchestral sounding score remains a personal highlight in my game soundtrack collection with its profound sense of scale and evocative themes that still make me listen to it intently this day. Not certain if it's still possible, but many years back I was able to download each and every track of JFG's original score directly from Rareware's website and I'm glad they made it available for free public download when they did as no official commercial OST was ever released back then, or now, I think.
Going back to Jet Force Gemini itself, this was a fantastic N64 game for me to pass my free time while being an electronic tech student back during the twilight years of the N64 and the games overall atmosphere conveyed an epic, grandiose sense of scale and exploration of each level. However, as pointed out in this video, Jet Force Gemini also began the wretched, repetitive formula of mandating each character to return to already explored levels in order for them to unlock specific paths and that became an infamous game design flaw even more heavily emphasized (I think for me and many others) in Donkey Kong 64, where each Kong character was required to unlock specific puzzles, doors and alternate pathways. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy! Anyway, I still love Jet Force Gemini for all of Rare's dedication to the N64 platform and how well they utilized the hardware in what is still today a visual, musical and cinematic marvel. Though, it's been a while since its release, I wonder if the control scheme for Jet Force Gemini on Retro Replay on Xbox One has ever been updated to suit a more contemporary button and joystick layout as the last time I played it, I found the controls overly cumbersome, but then again, they weren't exactly intuitive on N64 either from what I remember.

I have so much nostalgia for this game haha... I remember renting it when I was a kid and playing the multiplayer with my dad (and drawing the characters over and over), and then in high school I discovered eBay existed and bought a copy for $4 to revisit it. Needless to say, I didn't finish it (that second half gets everybody) but I did have a really good time just exploring and playing through it until I'd had my fill. I think it's worth at least checking out, but definitely not completing. Thanks for covering an old favourite of mine!

This was my all-time favorite Rare game, second only to Banjo-Kazooie. The brilliant mixture of action/adventure and third person shooter genres mixed with a colorful and cartoonish sci-fi setting was very captivating for me. And the breathtaking space opera style music was some of the best I've ever heard on the N64. Even today, I still listen to "SS Anubis" or "Sekhmet" sometimes.

    I really like it.
One thing I also really like is how it showed the Star Fox team down on their luck. That they are warriors and without a war they just degrade and fall into disrepair. For me at least showing that the characters can have theirs ups and downs really helps make them more believable. It also makes it so good to see them back in their prime during Assault. Knowing they had to work for it and that this is a state in their lives rather than some status quo. I also really like how it focused exclusively on 1 planet and therefore got people to connect to it. It gave the Sauria mission in assault which is by far my favorite as it felt so much more personal.
I kind of hope they will do something like that again at some point. Not necessarily the exact same thing but make a smaller scale Starfox game. That focuses on just 1 planet and really goes into it's people, it's beliefs, it's geography and everything. That's why regardless of the quality of the game itself I do think it's inclusion in the Star fox franchise is overwhelmingly positive. Assault showed that Star Fox could evolve which is why I don't like Zero from the moment it appeared. It felt more like a regression than anything else.
I never really had any attachment to 64. I did try it but it just felt like an inferior version of Assault in pretty much every way.

Something you didn't mention, and I'm glad it didn't happen to you, it's possible to end up in an unwinnable scenario. The final boss can only be damaged by the tri-missiles which are an upgrade with a finite amount but apply individually to your characters. If Juno doesn't get something like ~50 missiles you can't beat the final boss. It's unlikely, because Juno is the most common character, but possible.

Really good game but it does have its share of control issues in regards to trying to convert it to the XBox One platform.
It was clearly made around the N64 controller.
The last boss Mizar was impossible for me to beat so I can say I played though all of the game back in the day but could never get to see the final scenes after the final boss due to how difficult it was.
