- The original version of Gotham - the one that didn't make it into the final cut of Duke Nukem 3D. Dates back to June of 1995. Uploaded here for educational and entertainment purposes only.

Now everytime I hear the final version my brain automatically adds the missing bassline. XD
always loved this track the most, so sombre yet hopeful. glad to hear a different version
Dat bassline
That drum beat and the SLAP bass STANDS OUT as always❤️🔥
My favorite Duke 3D song... this is an awesome version. I think I still prefer the final, but I like the bass and the somewhat stronger melody near the end of the loop, and the choir backing.
Wow Mr. Jackson, this sounds even darker than the version which was in the game. Groovy!
In my opinion a masterpiece. The song gave a character to the world itself, the city, it's ambient lights and the whole gritty feeling. The music was half that game for me. Thank you for your work Lee, these songs are printed in my brain forever.
This is an amazing track; this brings back memories of playing DN3D back when it first came out. Definitely one of the masterpieces of videogame music, in my humble opinion. Thanks so much for sharing!
How to make a great soundfont in 3 simple steps.
1. Make one.
2. Play Lee Jackson's music.
Thank you Mr. Jackson, this is one of my favorite pieces of music. It's also wonderful to hear the original intent of the work from the artist himself.
I still await the day the midi gets released. It'd be nice to use it in a Lameduke Improvement project I've been working on.
One of my faves.
Absolutely amazing
Gives me the goosebumps every time.
Thank you, Mr. Jackson. Bobby Prince may have given soundtracks character, but yours gives games a soul.
Still loving your video game music, good sir!
love
Oh my! It's the real *you* . The final version is my favorite and is a masterpiece.
what a surprise! Thanks, Lee Jackson. Sounds as good as the final version.
I came from the discord - thanks for posting.
aw hell yeah
This one has more of a city feel to it. I like it a lot.
Curiously, it was originally used in a level set in a space station. It also fited very well there.
It's not simply a city feel, it totally subscribes to a different sound design which back then was still overly futuristic in nature. The final game gradually became more grounded, and so did the music by losing some of its "edge" (bold drum and bass line). I also love this rendition a lot (it's a missing piece of the final gotham all in all), and I patiently wait for the day when the original, more dramatic version of xplasma will finally come through clean.
Love the guitar riff in this
Wow, this is amazing, almost as good as the final version. Almost. It does indeed sound a bit like something from Doom. Thanks for the upload. All the best!
I don't agree with it sounding like something from Doom, Duke 3D and Doom have very differing styles of music even in instruments used.
@@AvoozlPlays
This fits Doom remarkably well, though, as do most of Lee's tunes. Check a few megawads that use them, such as Community Chest 3 or Valiant.
For user mods yes but not the game itself.
@@AvoozlPlays They do have pretty distinct styles and feels to them. I always felt that The City Streets (Death Row) felt kinda Doom-y, but I guess that's because it's one of Bobby's tracks, and he has his very recognizable style.
Would it be possible to get the midi files of these older versions of DN3D songs? I absolutely love the OST for Duke and I've heard a few of the older versions. It's always interesting to hear what the finished songs sounded like in developement
I can't release the MIDI file just yet - I have a few legal hoops I have to jump through first. Please be patient. Thank you.
I'll be patient as long as it takes, the wait will be worth it in the end. It's wonderful and slightly bizarre to be able to converse with somebody who created something I've listened to countless times over and over again, technology is amazing.@@LeeJacksonAudio
I think a certain Randy is interfering with your efforts of distributing these early tracks :(
if you speed it up by a notch the tempo will match to release one but with the guitar riffs added in, like this one a lot
Badass, very enjoyable. Facebook is kinda outmoded, hope you have other options, blogs to see backstories.
Yep, got a website. dleejackson.lbjackson.com
i agree Lee. this is much better. i hate that 3DR made you remove elements for the game.
Nice, did you keep this for 24 years straight?
I haven't deleted any of the original DN3D or ROTT files.
@@LeeJacksonAudio I honor you for that
@@LeeJacksonAudio Will you upload more? Preferably ROTT stuff, that game gets very little love :(
@@olzhas1one755 I will likely upload other older versions of other songs. The best way to find out about them is through the Lee Jackson Audio Community Discussion Group on Facebook. Get on FB and do a search for it, then join up and get in on the voting for the "Song of the Weekend." I do one every other Saturday. Some, like Gotham, have old versions which I'll upload from time to time!
@@LeeJacksonAudio thanks for some profound memorable moments of my russian childhood.
I wonder if anyone out there with a MIDI editor program have edited the retail Gotham, reproducing how the original version sounded like...
Yes, somebody did a recreation, and I downloaded it from Discord. If you are interested I can search the link again for you.
@@usuarioextra9324 I'm also interested
@@usuarioextra9324 I’d love to hear it.
Final is definitely better, but this is still real groovy.
Why DNF 2011 doesn´t have an awesome OST like DN3D? All the OST is pure generic action music... I love how darker sounds this music. DN3D is a really more darker game than DNF2011
I didn't write the soundtrack to DNF 2011.
@@LeeJacksonAudio Yes i know and that was so sad... You are awesome. Your OST defiened so much DN3D
(My english is bad! I am Argentinian)
What was your motivation for this track?
It's too long to post here on CZcams. I've added a link to my Discussion Group on Facebook below the video. Join that and you'll find the entire story behind the song, plus a lot more!
Reminds me of something from DOOM wish it made the final cut in Duke
I want a midi version please
Seconding myself.
Me too.
Hey Lee, I made a version of Stalker on my channel. That’s my favourite song from Duke Nukem 3D! Check it out if you’d like. I also really like Aliens, say your prayers!
Thanks for doing the version of Stalker! The other song is one of Bobby Prince's, though. :)
.mid please?
