- Both Bryan Cranston and Jason Segel established themselves with long-running TV shows. Now both are playing real-life writers on the big screen: Cranston as the titular blacklisted screenwriter in “Trumbo” and Segel as “Infinite Jest” author David Foster Wallace in “The End of the Tour.”

I would love some writers on writers segments or directors on directors one.
Excellent idea. For now I get my fill from Roundtable by the Hollywood reporter. Even though it is moderated by an executive of THR, there is still some great interaction and discussion. I'm looking forward to the possibility variety including more than just actors :)
I actually started watching those for a research paper I wrote on female filmmakers on the industries view on why there is such a low percentage of them in Hollywood. I love that they aren't just on actors/actresses, they are on all different professions. I watched on with cinematographers.
Ridley scott and tarantino.
Writer's Guild Foundation is not good enough for you? They have great content. Not writers on writers but great interviews.
Seeing a pairing like Villenueve and Del Toro would be fantastic
I'm loving this whole actors on actors thing
bfn
This and THR's round table are really great to listen to
I would love a "singer on singer" thing too
Yes its wonderful.
This is one of the best conversations I've seen in an interview. I'm planning to watch this at least twice. Btw hollywood this is how you promote your movie without shoving down your throat.
Son you need to watch C-SPAN.
blah People talk too much
What's refreshing about actors talking, is they discuss their work far more as a piece of art and meaningful, rather than just a job and pay package as they may discuss with a reporter!
Shit! That "It was such a fun experience", "we had a blast!", "Just Wow!"
@@alexispapageorgiou72 I did it! I found the person even more cynical than me. You get my upvote.
One of the best conversations. They both were engaged and asking questions they actually cared about. This was beautiful.
Best thing about Break Bad? It brought Bryan Cranston into the realm of 'serious actor'. Such a talent.
I loved Broken Badly!
That’s the irony. Comedy is not easy, in fact it’s one of the hardest things for actors to do. It’s a shame there’s a bias in cinema towards comedic actors.
I feel like that was a big factor behind his casting. I feel like Vince wanted Walter to be as unlikeable as can be by the end, but in order to pull it off without losing the audience, the actor had to have something to keep them hooked, even at his worst. And Walter has some funny mannerisms, good comedic timing, little details from Cranston’s comedy background that kept us wanting him to win, even after we saw the horrendous things he was doing. I even heard that Cranston treated White and Heisenberg as two different characters he had to play, rather than sides of the same character, and if that’s true, it certainly shows.
@@mylobage Bias against* towards sounds like the bias is in their favor.
@@mylobage Comedy isn’t hard for an actor to do. Making most comedy movies good is hard for an actor to do. There are so many cliches and repeating themes and plots that just get boring after the 50th time seeing them played out on screen. Being funny in a good comedy with good writing isn’t difficult.
"When you give your everything, and people ask you: What's next?" Such a good interview, good questions and smart answers.
"What happens when everybody loves what you do? You get everything that you've dreamed of and you realize that you still feel the same. That it didn't affect the thing that you always thought it would affect."
Sorry for quoting from the video, this was just so deep for me.
For me too. Words of wisdom
This is so good. They have such a nice chemistry together. Great interview.
+Patrick H. B. "Science, bitch!" ;)
I always knew Bryan was very intelligent, but this is one of the few Jason Segel interviews I've seen and it's so great to see Jason is equally intelligent.
I love this conversation. I love how deep they went into human psyche, getting all you want and still not feeling complete; even depression and suicide.
One of the best Actor-on-Actor episodes.
I didn't go into this thinking: I want to listen to Jason Segel talk about stuff. Any stuff and all the time.
But now I do.
I love Jason Segal. So humble and willing to learn. Bryan Cranston a great guy too. Smart people.
These two need to make a movie together. Awesome chemistry.
Jason Segal deserves a doctorate for his research into that character.
Wow....I was incredibly impressed by Segel in this, this is how interviews should be conducted, You could feel the passion both actors have for their trade. Incredible!
Jason's socks are glorious.
This is the best of the lot of this series. Really interesting conversation from two articulate and bright men. Jason Segal is the revelation.
This is my favourite one. I don't know what else to say: it hits. My best mate is severely depressed, and I have a few other friends that believe in the "just stop being depressed" routine. I want to play them this video, because if they still don't get it then, I can at least forgive them for being more daft than ignorant.
That's all anyone can do. The internet is literally the modern bible. In the olden days, since holy texts are 100% meta-phorical, someone who is having real life problems would be turned onto a text like that in hopes that they would see a better way to live. Now, with so many people on the planet, meaning a larger range of emotions, problems, etc. still the best thing you or anyone can do is send a link specific to what you think is best for a loved one to hear. And just like in the olden days, once you've done that, they're on their own. I know this is pretty deep for an "actors on actors", but it still stands for any other info. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink it.
what a great way to do an interview, between people that understand each other. their conversation is so deep and thoughtful, make me want to watch both their movies!
This was such a deep conversation, I don't know why I clicked the video to see some actors talking but I found out that they actually had something meaningful to talk about.
Just found out about this Actors on Actors. I love it already
I'm in the same boat :) loved THR's series and it's great that variety is doing their own thing too
Bryan is absolutely hilarious, I love him, he is soooo versatile. Such a brilliant actor and person.
One of the best conversations in the whole series.
I've been binge watching these interviews all day. This has to be my favorite.
I honestly had written off both these films, but after watching them talk about the people portrayed in them and just their general thoughts it's made me reconsider giving them a shot. Better at selling a movie than any trailer.
Watched trumbo because I learned about the Hollywood 10 and the blacklist during the McCarthy era, although it is only an excerpt, it's a piece of history that shouldn't be forgotten about the dangers of fearmongering. Haven't watched the David foster Wallace film yet though
I agree Fearmongering is a dangerous thing but after fall of the Soviet Union when the KGB files were open for inspection it was learned that the Soviets had plants in the U.S. Government and the people who were accused by McCarthy were actually working on destabilizing the U.S. It was also confirmed the the U.S. Communist Party was also under orders from Soviet Russia to act as a forth column in order to turn public opinion against traditional values.
Far too many innocent people were swept up in the chaos of the times but it must also be noted that the House not the Senate (McCarthy) which was investigating Communists working in Government was the ones on witch hunts yet today McCarthy is the one singled out yet he really had nothing to do with what the Democratically Controlled House was doing. Even the News Media of the time focused their attention on McCarthy hardly mentioning all the damage that the House was doing. Was it anything other that grabbing headlines? Was it the Media trying to discredit government investigations while giving the house a pass and for what reason?
I was very young but I remember this but it was not until years later when I actually believed the proper narrative of the McCarthy era that I did some research and understood how history had been re-written.
richb313 When you say house you mean HUAC right? I agree with what you're saying. History is not easy to decipher without digging in yourself as history is always written by those with power.
Also just want to say this to be clear about why I used the term McCarhty era. Although the dominant narrative paints McCarthy as the all encompassing scapegoat/villain; it's just easy to define the era by McCarthy as it is the dominant narrative.
I loved their conversation, you would never see anything like this on jimmy Fallon or a more traditional talk show type format. Keep up the great work.
Fallon is asswater of a very special kind, His very own genus of asswater. How is he even on television. I have had funnier migraines.
Wow. That interview was surprisingly really in depth and emotional.
this was a great interview!
Dang, these actors must think real deep and psychologically all the time. Since it seems like they have a whole bunch of examples and metaphors that work so well with the point they are making. I like to believe I'm the same way, but I have a big problem when it comes to explaining things to people out loud for some reason.
THis was the best interview i've ever watched
This conversation was a joy to watch.
WTF is Marshall doing talking to Druthers? Ted would be ashamed
+Christian I know right! Marshall is probably going to ended up being melted by a glass tower.
That's was some kind of a deep conversation.
6:39 - 7:32 Such true words are being spoken. Never let fear stop you from achieving your goals people. Getting out of our comfort zone is how we grow as human beings.
This is my absolute favourite of the 'Actor on Actor' series. A fantastic, engaging conversation.
This was like the best interview I’ve ever seen. They were both so real and really learned a lot about the characters they were playing. And wow they can be so funny and so deep and emotional and serious. Wow
I love hearing these two talk to one another, I never would’ve expected these two to have such a brilliant conversation
This is by far the best Actors on Actors! Very insightful, real conversation.
I've just watched 2 Actors On Actors so far, but found both videos truly inspiring. It feels a lot more intimate than an interviews between interviewers and actors probably because they truly understand and respect each other in a way only people who love the same thing could. Really, thank you for uploading these great videos.
I love these interviews. It's such a different and unique way to learn about the actors and the roles. Please keep putting these interviews out!
this conversation was so much more interesting than i expected. i knew Cranston would be articulate and insightful but Jason really held his own. they both bounced great concepts off each other.
literally the best conversation on this series.
Zachary Tyler totally agree. The most focused and clear conversation of all!
I need a man like Jason. He's so deep and sweet.
Love this! I could sit and listen to their conversation for hours. It's so insightful.
Oh my. That was such a great watch. I've watched quite a few of these wonderful Actors on Actors youtubeclips. Seems that, by sheer good luck, i saved the best for last..... That was just a wonderful conversation. Thank mr. Segel and mr. Cranston.
'"A women goes to the hospital after a failed suicide attempt . The doctor asks her " Why were you trying to hurt yourself ? The woman answers " Your not going to be able to help me if you think I was trying to hurt myself. I was trying to stop the pain."'
I had the same expression as Bryan.
same. i literally got goosebumps. that was some deep shit
I love the conversations so much. Very insightful.
Wow - these two amazing men tackle suicide, depression, the blacklist, politics, etc. What a fantastic episode. Really amazing.
best interview yet, this is a true conversation and very thought-provoking
Great interview! Bryan Cranston is one of my all-time favorite actors. Jason Segal is very insightful and witty.
Watched both their movies before this interview and now that I have watches this, I love them even more
How do these videos not have thousands of views?
+wesleypipes they do
+Sean McCuaig lol they prob mean millllions
Jillydisco haha probably
This is the best interview I've seen on your show. These 2 are great actors and discuss worthy subjects.
i recently watched the cillion murphy and morgot robbie interview and loved it. now binge watching some of the best conversations in between my favorite actors. This for mat is so good.
So almost 4 years later, I finally find this . So happy.
Wow, I've been binge watching all these A on A episodes and this one so far is absolutely my favorite to watch. These two actors are really enjoying sharing their philosophical approaches to their work. Engaging!
They're both very thoughtful. My favorite in this series.
TheDjangoz Likewise.
two actors I adore and respect; I loved this one! Could've listened to another hour of this conversation.
This is beautiful! Such thoughtful answers
Love love love this. Very inspiring, great actors, great men.
Best and the most intense and 'making sense' actors on actors interview yet.. I had watched like 5-6 and was feeling like 'they're still talking with their social mask' but this one is kind of different for me i think. Thanks to them. (also Cate Blanchett and Ian McKellen is a sweet one:3)
One of my favorite episodes so far, Both of them are incredibly thoughtful/Thought provoking and expressed themselves so well. Loved this!
what an amazing interview. love these two
Both of them great and humble human beings. Great video!
A beautiful conversation
wow, i could watch/listen to these two talk forever
what a great conversation!! they really have something to say to each other.
Why are more people not watching these! This made me want to watch both of these movies and I love that they touch on the most profound thoughts of all of humanity that everyone can relate to and understand.
my main man Segel rocking those Addams family-esque socks like the boss he is
such a quality of personality... what makes them so brilliant and intellectual that they still seek for more and think more about the life, people, themselves and it also makes you think
They are both very thoughtful, intelligent, funny people. Love them both.
I love all this philosophical life stuff, bloody lovely.
Jason Segel is really inspiring. i feel like he is really connected to the aspects of human beings
Wow these guys just said some very meaningful things to me. Love these guys.
what a brilliant conversation
I could listen to Jason Segel for hours.
these are great!
this was a wonderful conversation
Great Interview... !!!
I love their conversation.
Marshall Eriksen and Hammond Druthers
Wow... very meaningful conversation, deep... Love Bryan Cranston (currently reading his bio/book which is a great read) but, never thought of Jason Segel as this type of person; very cool guy and speaks so eloquently.
this is my favourite so far!!!!
Bryan Cranston seems like such a genuine lovable guy and Segel when he spoke about being an actor and being resentful for not getting the parts he wanted and then feeling scare to face a challenge cause he might realize he wasnt all that good to play those kind of roles. I think its beautiful how honest he was. Not many admit those kind of things. I read he struggled a lot to get parts as he didnt quite fit into any Hollywood stereotype.
Never stop making these. Please.
Very smart, funny and talented guys. Enjoyable to listen!
i will watch this again and again for the rest of my life yes sir
I enjoy this..very very very much :) thank you
there is Jason Segel having a serious conversation about life and his career, and then there is the Jason Segel high as a kite with Paul Rudd giggling uncontrollably, and im not sure which one I like more.
Those two are simply a great pair.
this series is sooooooooo good.
My favorite living dramatic actor talking to one of my absolute favorite living comedic actors
The thumbnail made me really happy!
one of the best, if not the best actors on actors
like how these 2 where comfortable interviewing each other
Love these two!
Jason Segel's performance in #TheEndOfTheTour is extremely underrated. He should get nominated for an Oscar but unfortunately he won't.
Great discussion between two actors that really work hard to portray real characters.
These guys are GREAT together...love Bryan Cranston anyways, but the two of them together? #amazing
best interview
