  • six months of writing and i've finished draft one of my new novel! And here's a little thinking aloud about working patterns, word counts, writing too much or not enough - and being treated like absolutely nothing.

I’m pretty sure we would disagree about a lot of things if we met, but that’s something that used to be plus in examining life and important things. I find your content extremely engaging and uplifting and I certainly wouldn’t have come across the majority of books that you talk about without your channel. Keep on keeping on sir!

Congratulations on finishing the first draft of your novel! I don't know how you manage to juggle writing one book and editing, copy editing and checks on others. That would frazzle my brain.

i often make these types of blogging videos in my personal desktop gallery as well, especially during my writing milestone! i'm so proud of you for finishing your book. even a video like this inspires me quite a lot in a lot of the things i've been pondering about. it's so refreshing to see a person like you sharing their thoughts organically in this platform.
i also relate on how not writing makes me depressed lol. even if one idea doesn't seem to work out, another one comes along and i must entertain it or else i'll just feel hollow inside - like i'm not fulfilling the role i'm meant to do on this earth. how fascinating is it to feel such a connection to a certain hobby or skillset! but that's why we must persevere with nurturing our talents, because in the end, we are nurturing our senses of selves. it's always great to hear from and relate to another writer, especially since we're kind of timid in terms of online presences.
anywho, good on you, sir paul. i hope happiness envelops all our lives and most of all, may we always be able to make something along with it.

Well done . I like instant gratification from doing images ; I do . My method is a form of scrying . My art name is The Peripheral Visionary cos I cant see the world head on ever . The people that make you feel like nothing obviously dont know you ; at times like that I get feisty and intrude on their personal space and tell them in my choicest vocabulary what I think of them with plenty of alliteration for my own amusement . It is good to rest ; sleep and hopefully dream. You made me think of John Cooper Clarkes Twat and the It Man baby so that is my listening before bed . Goodnight.

I really enjoyed listening to your views,I think it is far to easy for us to think we are 'nothing,' and beat ourselves up ,tfs

Congrats on completing another book! It's odd to hear people you consider "successful" to say "I feel like saying I'm Not Nothing" because to be frank with you for a few seconds, I've heard your name coming up in random conversations with people who say you're one of their favourite authors (alongside Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London books and PG Wodehouse, oddly). You've made and continue to make a mark on people. Looking forward to the new book!

    I love Muriel's Wedding!
Edit- Kicking the next bit under 'read more' because its egregious over sharing. I'm not expecting a response or anything, it's just my thoughts while you were talking about that scene in the film, and it's not wholly connected.
I can relate to the 'I'm not nothing' feelings. At the time I was at the most vulnerable I've ever been (mental health diagnosis, friend drama, etc) I was told by a teacher I was trying to explain my troubles to that I didn't belong there and I didn't put up any fight. It took me over a decade to even think, that's not acceptable for anyone to say, let alone a teacher. I've never felt like I belong anywhere since then, and even typing this out I think 'Well, (name of teacher) was right...'
I look forward to reading your new book!

People don’t realise the effect they can have with a few careless words - even when they’re in a position like a teacher’s. I’m sorry to hear your story and hope things are better now

@@paulmagrs2474 Thanks. Things are going better these days, just took a while to find a way around what I assume is impostor syndrome.

I am so sorry you had to deal with that from a teacher. I had a similar situation (not mental health related though). There were a few teachers in different places who told me I was not good enough. That kind of thing does stay with a person. It took me a long time to realise they are only people with an opinion - and one that happened to be wrong 😉I am glad things are going better for you now.

I wonder if the author who "wrote too much" was Dunsany? A man who's reputation has been damaged I feel by Tolkien and Lovecraft fans expecting a writer's work to remain as one thing throughout their career.
Congrats on finishing the new book!

Well done with your work. I really look forward to reading it. I hope you don’t mind my asking, but why are you now comfortable with going places when the virus is just as rife as it ever was? I am doing all I can to avoid it and to avoid infecting other people and I just wonder how people are coping with this pretence that the pandemic is over.
