    THE READ SMART TAG
This is an original tag created by ‪@ToReadersItMayConcern‬ and ‪@ProseAndPetticoats‬
I originally saw this tag on Steve Donoghue's channel ‪@saintdonoghue‬
    Read Smart Tag questions:
    1. What is your strategy to stay focused and engaged while reading?
    2. How does your environment influence your focus and what can you do to optimise it?
    3. What methods do you use to retain and recall information from what you've read?
    4. How do you approach difficult or challenging material?
    5. What role do note-taking and annotation play in your reading process?
    6. How do you balance reading for pleasure with reading for personal or professional development?
    7. What is the importance of setting reading goals?
    8. What are some strategies for overcoming reading slumps or lack of motivation?
    9. Tag some people.

Excellent response! The chain of associations you describe at the end seems an especially important way to process information: don't have each topic in isolation. If what you learn is true, it connects to the broader world. It helps, at least for me, to ponder those connections (suddenly that topic gets slotted in alongside the rest and, nicely, becomes as much a memory as the rest, too).

Yes when things start connecting it opes things up. Best wishes and happy reading to you.

A part of me wishes I had annotated books as sometimes I see a book on my shelves and can't recall how it ended for example.
The only extra focus I may put into a book is a finger guiding the way down the page. It does help me read faster too.

I tried to annotate but found I was highlighting everything or nothing! I could never get the balance right! I nearly ended up with a day-glo neon book!

I thought for the reading slump, it meant they want to read, but they can't get into another book because they just finished an amazing book or a really bad book and/or they don't know what to read next, but there is a desire to read. 🤷‍♀ the mind map looks cool. Could you share more on that?

Thanks. I will put together a video on mind maps. I have found them really useful. Happy reading.

Your experience with Nietzsche sounds a lot like mine. Thanks for tagging me - though it turns out I did the tag probably about simultaneously with you. You gave an interesting insight into Jordon Peterson whose videos seem to be popping into my feed endlessly these days because I actually watched one. Not a big mistake, but it feels to me a bit like he is an attention seeker (not that that need necessarily be a bad behavior), and I don’t want my viewing time to be used in that way.
