I test out some waterproof Gloves and waterproof socks! I was curious if these would actually be prevent water from soaking through. I also added a Gore tex Rapha waterproof jacket and GORE Pack light trail pants to the mix. Head out for a soggy rain ride to see how these things hold up to the rain and water. The results are very surprising to me! Waterproof cycling pants, waterproof cycling jacket, waterproof cycling gloves and waterproof cycling socks is not easy to find. Especially waterproof rain gear that stays waterproof! This waterproof cycling gear review is test proven and works in the rain. Not much cycling gear you can say that about. - Sport
What is some test proven Rain gear you've had over the years?
Living in dry dry socal. You call the police if you need rain gear to go outside.
frog toggs poncho with a waist pack to cinch it down. Its a bit flappy but its also 8 dollars. great emergency backup
Japanese waterproof industrial gloves...seamless outside, insulated inside, ugly as hell, $12/pair on Amazon. My hands stay totally dry and they are warm enough down into the 30s.
Rapha commuter jacket but also agree about taking the hood off when things get too hot. I commuted every day through Japan’s rainy season with 26 days of rain.
Rain jacket by Endura.
As a german viewer I have to say thank you for always showing the metrical numbers of units like km and also C°
You got it buddy!
Japanese thank you too!
Entire rest of world... thank you too
;-)
Agree!!
Now we need SI units like kelvins
Dustin Klein, the gear reviewer we didn't know we desperately needed
LMAO.!!😭😂
Looking forward to some winter '22/23 existential rain rides. Keep searching Dustin, you'll find it out there somewhere in the mist.
Thank you! Love the edit and experimental approach.
Your vids are the best man! 🙌🏾Keep it up, I’m always watching down here in Springfield!
Thanks for the good vibes my dude!
Thank you for the awesome content. Can't stop watching.
Next time I'm in the market for overshoes...i may just go waterproof socks. Thanks for the vid Player!
Any time!
Hey Dustin - do you know where Dexshell comes from? my country Poland :D so proud you are showing them up on your channell
You da man Dklein! Thanks for socks recommendation. I just ordered a pair. Keep it real!
Player! You will be stoked!!
Very stoked on the socks and gloves!! Great video mate!
Its great to hear about rain gear that works. I have a pearl izumi monsoon pant/jacket combo that has worked great for enhanced gravel to mtb. The jacket rocks but the pant "migrate" during the ride. Great information on the gloves and socks. Keep rock'n the channel and thanks for all the content.
Great vid man! i live in st johns and saw the bridge and was like yeah!! I'm looking for a new bike and i like the setup you have, especially for the rain we're getting now!
The rain kit looked great. The socks and jacket are really calling to me.. I ride in light rain often and what I use is haphazard. I appreciate seeing bike purposed gear. Thanks again.
Wish I had watched this before my ride from Portland to Hood River last Saturday.
In the cold season I still use and love my Gore Bike Wear that I bought in 1998, combined with Vaude Drop Pants or Rainlegs. And I mentioned it befor, I love the dog-poop-bags here in germany, they are so useful when the rain surprises you on an descent and you do not have waterproof stuff stuffed into a bag. Just put two of them in a bag, they are alomost not there and they safe your hands when seasons turn from lovely to real-cyclist- weather.
I ride BMX . With the BMX Goonies. But your videos are so great. We did a rain ride this week and my hands and feet where soaked.
Great video, this is rapidly becoming one of my favorite channels. But I will say, this one reminded me of one of the reasons I left Portland for Lakeview. 300 or so sunny days a year! Dustin, I would love to get you down here, show you some of our riding in Lake County.
Glad you found the channel! Rumor has it the sun is juuuuuuuuust about to come out around here 🤣
Your riding on the wrong side of the road!
Here in Britain we ride on Left side of the road, that's right the left side of the road and that's the right side. On a serious note just ordered my 1st commuter bike and your videos are so informative on biking and all the gear that goes with it
Thank you for posting!
Hey Dustin how are you. Thanks for the great rain gear test. I ride fat bike in the snow some of that stuff would work well staying dry is half the battle. I know what you mean about waterproof stuff leaving you cold sometimes. I have a pair of 100%'s hands are dry but cold. I got my slow AF stickers today they describe my pace perfectly and thanks for the extra 2. You da man!!
I’m so happy u love camo as much as I do
Oh Oregon how I love your soggy wet weather! I commute to work on a budget... Frogg Toggs and rubber boots haha. Cant get the boots in my fixed gear foot straps but hell im dry!
I need more rain gear
Soakin it up, Dustin!!!
Maybe check out some Spatzwear. Seems to be much more high function/traditional road cycling outerwear. Popular in Europe.
Thank you for the lead I will check these out!
For cold fingers wear a thin pair of silk glove liners inside the Goretex gloves. Not bulky at all but that extra layer traps just enough warmth to keep the digits comfy.
thank you, I will be grabbing those socks for the midsouth
You will be stoked!
Those dex shell socks have earned their money on a bunch of winter hikes for me.
Im stoked you have experience with them!
Love your Vids
Loved this vid. I have zero rain gear since I don’t know what to get… and tend to just throw on some cutoffs and a long sleeve and go for it. Haha. Definitely going to look into this gear.
Never heard of that make of gloves / socks but they rule and I'm bagging some soon. Cheers for the heads up player.
Until recently my attitude to rain was to try and stay warm rather than dry, everything would wet out eventually. Then I tried a Shakedry jacket, it's a game changer it actually stays dry.
you nailed it!!
That’s what my research led me to conclude too
Do they make trousers to go along with the jacket ?
Dope ride
That hood tip 👌 mhmmmm
Stoked! Hope that helps.
As you mentioned it wasn't a dedicated jacket but did the survived= the deluge, quite impressive. Dollar for Dollar the Gore shakedry is the ultimate rain jacket imo. The Dexshell looks tempting. Great video and content as always mr Klein
Agreed on the shakedry! these dexshells are very impressive!
moist
Player!
Very informative! Glad you found some gear that didn't soak through. It would be great if you did a series of riding a different bike in every video. Dust off some of those forgotten bikes in the shed.
That was a "Dustin does Science" production....sorry I missed you guys last night (parenting stuff got in the way). Thanks DK, suffering in the Liquid sunshine for our consumer guidance and viewing pleasure.
Skiers use glove liners for a little buffer of heat in the gloves. Maybe that will keep your tips warm!
I always thought the same thing about the Showers Pass gloves... no warmth whatsoever! Gotta give these Dexshells a try!
Youll be happier with the dexshell for warmth!
ugh, the rain we got this past week definitely marked the beginning of mud season in Forest Park. Are you still a fan of those Lake high-top boots you reviewed a couple years back? the shoe I've been really curious about lately is the Lake MXZ 176 -- kind of a low-top version of their winter boots. if you combined that with decent waterproof socks it could be magical.
Uau!I am answering my self:when I could buy,as a Romania buyer,such a good socks,pants,jacket and gloves?!?Thank you so much for your effort!
Fantastic video. Very impressive the lengths you'll go to suffer LOL. I bet you can put hand warmers in those Dex Shell gloves. What would you do to keep your head dry though? oooh maybe there is a Dex Shell hat!
How is the sizing on the gloves and socks? Thanks for the recommendations and weather stats they were ridden in!
Timely vid, I'm eyeing up some wet weather gear right now. Dexshell has definitely piqued my interest after this. Also heads up, Rapha is pronounced with a short 'a' instead of a long one. 🤟
stoked!! how did you get the name dustin??....
04:03 I do that with my Paramo Fuera windproof top except I roll it backwards, still works (annoyingly the jacket has a velcro strap retainer so the hood forms a high collar, but top doesn’t). Plus the Paramo has a high-viz reflective silver stripe across the body front and back and the top is red. I can’t understand and why most cycle manufacturers make waterproof tops in dark colours like black 🤔
wow. Wow.
Regarding the shower pass gloves. They work best with a liner in them wear a thin pair of Merino wool gloves then the shower pass gloves over them. Boom warm and dry hands!
I was looking for a good video explaining rain gear for bike riding. I found it. The camo gloves you put in the paint can are no longer available on the link. I ll do some digging and try to find it on their store or website.
My goretex jacket and cycling trousers wets out in heavy rain . Which I hear all will
The only jacket I’ve heard of that is actually waterproof is the goretex shake dry , but I’ve never tried it yet
what do you normally wear in winter for pants/bib tights? I always find I cant find a combo that is confortable
Would you recommend the gore pants? Can you put them on over your pants with your shoes on? Do they have a zipper at the bottom?
Very curious about those gloves and pants! Ive done Showers Pass gloves and socks...they work well for awhile, but feel like you are wearing a thick wetsuit! I was debating on the Chrome waterproof pants but these Gore might be more bang for the buck...hmm.
Both are good. I think the Gore pants edge out the chromes in quality and details every so slightly!
Great video Dustin! May I ask your height and the Rapha jacket's size? I'm fully struggling with the size.
Im 6' even and run a small
Thank you a lot!
How to manage spectacles in the murk and dank?
Dissent 133 gloves all day every day ;)
Bro man, do you use anything on your lenses for rain?
Do you treat your glasses with anything to minimize fogging or disperse water drops?
i have used rainx water repellant and it works wonders on glasses and the GoPro Lense!
Dustin next time write to gore to send You shakedry jacket, best thing for rain
This video made me glad to live in frequently drought stricken California...my teeth were chattering just from watching.
Zed from Police Academy @5:35 😂
My dad always maintained there's no such as bad weather, just the wrong clothes, but he would caveat that by adding that there's no such thing as waterproof LOLZ
Two things Dustin number one remove those pesky velcro patches and install some magnets. Number two I love good pair of waterproof mitts not fingers mitts. Let those little digits keep themselves warm, don't separate them.
your info has been filed with the department
what kinda of mad fenders are you running on that rider?
where did you hear about the waterproof camo gloves? they look baller! socks too!
A view suggested them in the comments. They work amazingly well!
when can we get a tour of all your tattoos??
how nice of weather to deliver when you need to review rain gear...
We have a special agreement ;)
2:03 Lmao those sig figs
DK, how was the breathability of all 4 pieces?
remarkably good! I found not issues with them trapping sweat. Good question!
I always end up soaked , either sweat or rain . Were the pants comfortable?? Be safe bud. Thanks
Those pants are comfortable and did their job perfectly!
@@EverythingsBeenDone I bought the gloves, yeah. I'm the showers pass guy..oh well live and learn. i appreciate the tips greatly, as I'm new, and old?
Tramp stamp! 🤣🤣🤣
Hahahhahaa
You didn't mention the Gore cap dude ? 👍👎?
I think the rain proofing would hold in sweat and I would be drenched anyway.
Yeah boy! I'm not a fan of pull overs per se.....but it looked really good. Liked the vid.
I'm always afraid to ride my bike over that bridge!!
Life’s hard when you have a carbon, Dura-Ace rainbike.
I don't know how to type a comment without an exclamation point!!
Where did your hands go!? Must be camo.
No rain across your nek? that´s the fail on my rainjacket.
Damn the socks linked in the description are made with wool, lame.
345 for the anorak, jesus f** christ
WET SUIT
The extra maintenance, the hassle of getting dressed, and being wet. Simply not worth it to me 😆
More of a turbo trainer type I see
why are you feet so white?
I was cold and Im pale....and dead
Why are you so surprised about the waterproof gloves? It’s not really a new thing
New to me as of 2years ago.
@@EverythingsBeenDone I see that you are a professional and I can’t find any good videos about studded tires, where I live winters can get very rough and I recently started to bike a lot, I have some beautiful gravel trails in the forest here but in the winter they are completely covered in ice, it would be cool if you could make a video about cycling in the winter
