If you’re reading this in 2023, Windows has a bug relating to uppercase file names. Just name it UPDATE1 or something with an extra letter then hit enter. Rename again and erase the 1. The PSP will not read the file correctly otherwise and it’ll just say corrupted file when you go into GAME.

For me, it still doesn't work. It keeps on saying corrupted data, and I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I've tried several videos, links, downloads and still nothing.

Welcome, since it's hard for most to connect through their wifi, you could have just put the update on the SD card and updated through that.

Of course not why would it?! You need an SD card.. the reader is for the small SD card to be inserted and then that black SD a reader is supposed to be used in a laptop or a desktop if you have a slot for a Micro SD Reader

Hey, you can update the firmware without going online. I believe you can or you will need to find the most recent firmware, load it to the SD card or memory card and go from there. I swear only the people over seas say 'Universality', we say College. Hoarding is good, at least you have backups upon backups. I don't know if you can use a sony memory card that's news to me. I know you could with the vita. It just has been sometime since I touched the PSP. I'd rather an SD card. I think there's only one slot so it's either the SD card I believe there might be a small amount of internal memory

Yes, what makes you think you won't be able to play old psp games at all if you update? if you have a ps4 or a ps5, xbox, there's always new firmware coming out, still be able to play them old games bro.

If your PSP says it cant update and shows a lower version on the download file just restart your PSP

Your handheld is modified? Also, I think you can just download the firmware and load it to memory card SanDisk. And install update that way.

in stead of taking out the micro sd, can i just plug the psp into computer directly.
Very good question.. the system itself needs the update not the card. But using and sd adapters to get SD card to read in the computer will work since you'll have to do this when putting roms and custom stuff on card.
I don't feel like there's a way to get a n updated firmware file to be placed on card and then I still it. Could always try.

My psp firmware is 1.0, it can't detect my micro sd adaptor, the original memory stick duo is only 32mb, which is smaller than the firmware update file... Now I'm stuck

@@DarkLatexKing I feel like 6.61 is the golden firmware. I'd say research if you can do what you can on 6.61 if you can stick with it, but i doubt you can do anything with such low firmware, I don't know why you want to keep it, when things improve with each firmware.
I would updated it if I was you. That firmware is capped, so I"m sure the system isn't unlocked with features like it would if you were on 6.61. Just up to you

I've upgraded mine when I had the handheld things went smooth, and no lag for me. What made you think of a question like this?

You should have gotten a PS Vita. I don't know why anyone wants to own a PSP, when the vita can emulate it? Plus as you know, devices get old, parts fail as well.
