  • For our mantel upgrade, we chose a custom mantel designed by Enkeboll Designs in Carson California.
The company has over 550 design patterns to choose from ranging from swan and lion mantel bases to grape medallions and floral trims, rosette moldings and Corinthian capitals. Throughout the world, Enkeboll products are associated with quality, endurance and elegance.
The extensive inventory of products includes corbels, finials, onlays, crowns, molding keys, arches, moldings, panels, pulls, rosettes, newel posts, handrails, balusters, capitals, columns, plinths mantel and bar elements.
Raymond Enkeboll founded the company in 1956. It began as a furniture shop in a chicken shed in Venice California. Now, the company employs 156 highly trained workers in a 75-thousand square foot design warehouse in Carson California.
The company’s roots are in wood, in art and design, a powerful legacy which can be seen in all of the company’s products. Each new piece begins as a sketch. Like the professional wood carvers and sculptors before them, the new Enkeboll design team has the experience to think three dimensionally and to visualize the final result. Their sketches are given to master carvers who draw and execute the ideas.

This video has 80's vibes or something. I was surprised when I saw that it was made less than a year ago 🤣

If you just listen to the voice without watching the video, she sounds like lunch counter Helen from the 90's sitcom "Wings" 🤣

I'm very excited by your gas key solution. My gas key is in the floor, which is going to be fun when I replace flooring, but your solution gave me an idea! Thanks for sharing!

I wanted to see the finished area behind the hinging column. Did they fill the drywall? Did they drill out a space in the solid column to fit over the key, or does the key need to be removed each time?

Me too. All white is the way to go. It really does create a clean, modern feel. Avoid any contrasting woo± as much as possible and go with all white. It avoids that "country lodge" feel and looks modern. I would not have realized that, but our new house was done that way and I can see the value. We have a vaulted ceiling with wood beams and ours are white. Neighbors have the old 1970s dark brown wood beams and it's a totally different feel.

I definitely like the video about how they did that mantel, very genius. But I would also like to add that the lady in the video is gorgeous she should’ve been a model.

I have a gas fireplace with big brown square tiles on it. Can I just add a mantle on top of tiles or do I need to do something else to mount it? Do I just meassure space and do I glue to tiles or do I screw it in?

Good video and I learned a lot, thank you. The hinged column was too much work for a tiny benefit, it wasn't worth it. Instead, just use an extender and a hole in the post. it would look just fine. Another problem with the hinge, as well as the original door, is that a new home owner might never discover that hidden key. One suggestion: it goes without saying that seeing a woman do this kind of work, making measurements, being the apparent brain/designer, using power tools, is a novelty that increase the value of this video. To that end, hide the guy as much as possible, let the woman do as much of the work herself as possible, and keep the guy quiet and let her direct him as if he's just a helper. The woman could have used the drill to bore the hole, a little practice and she could have done that.

She stated that reworking the plumbing for the gas line was an expense they didn’t want to mess with.
When a new buyer comes along the last owner should show them the key.
I don’t think it’s right to “hide the guy”. She needed help removing the mantel safely and that’s okay. You don’t have to do everything on your own.
As for her being able to use the drill herself, you really don’t know that. I have raynauds so I can’t use certain power tools. I can’t mow my own lawn because the vibrations travel up my arm and hurt the rest of the day. Using a drill makes my hand unsteady as well. She could have the same issues or something else. She seems like a capable woman, if she felt she could do it she probably would have.

You should wear safety glasses when you're using that old rusty worn-out finish nailer!
Come on guys a company that you claim is as large as yours is, should come into the latest century and buy some cordless nailers.
