Thank you for bringing this topic up. More awareness of it is needed. It has effected letting others watch my daughter and not many people are familiar with it or what to do. Thankfully at age 4, she seems to be getting more control of it. Great info as always! You are a hero!

My daughter is 16 months old and fell and hit her head and screamed. In the middle of the same first scream she just passed out and went limp. Stopped breathing for about 30 seconds and then was hazy. I called ambulance and went to ER. They didn’t find anything in CT scan and we went home. Now she just fell off the couch and did the same thing just as before. She acts really tired and wants to sleep after she starts breathing again. It’s scary and I am calling the pediatrician. Thank you for your the video. It makes me feel better and more knowledgeable.

I felt like I could have written this myself! The first time to happened to my daughter she was 16 months, she is 2 in January and she had another episode last month and again today. Each time she has fallen and been very shocked, panicked, cried so deeply that she has almost forgotten to take a breath, her eyes have rolled to the back of her head and she has gone limp and lost consciousness. After she comes around she has been sleepy and needed lots of cuddles. It’s so absolutely terrifying! My daughter is a hugely fussy eater and doesn’t like meat - I blend mince meat into sauces for pasta, rice and try to give her lots of lentils, spinach, quinoa etc and other iron rich food but she eats very little or totally refuses - I’m very concerned she may be iron deficient so I’ve started giving her iron supplements - it’s very scary and I’m worried they maybe something underlying going on

Very jarring. Feel for all the parents experiencing this. Son had BHS from age 1 until age 4.5. Gave iron drops to help but best is to try to catch the episode early and let all caregivers (daycare, sitters) know. Usually brought on (unintentionally) by falls and tantrums. It would help to splash a little cold water on his face at onset but that may not work for every child. Hang in there parents!

My son grew out of it at age 4-5. My pediatrician recommended to rub his sternum with my knuckles (in a firmly manner) before he past out. It usally stopped him from passing out. The contortions where the scarier part for me.
