  • In this video, I will be talking about why the Corvette C7 Stingray Z51 makes for a surprisingly great daily driver. Especially when you consider the car it is. Also, if you live in Austin Tx (or willing to drive here) and you have a car you'd let me review, let me know and we'll get together! Thanks for watching!

    I have been a corvette owner for about 10 years now, got bit by the corvette bug when I purchases a 78. since my 78 I have owned several and currently own a 82, 2007 and a 2015. I look at my cars as just that, cars and drive them all the time. I have friends that own them and keep them parked in the garage as they don't want to put the miles on them, never understood that. I look at it this way, you can't take it with you when your number is up so if you have one, enjoy it and drive it. as to putting high miles on them, yes they can handle it as they are built very well. the 2015 I just picked up had 2086 miles on it, the previous owner barely did 100 miles a month. why spend this kind of money when only the 4 walls of your garage gets to enjoy looking at it? if you have one drive the snot out of it. JMHO

      Oh for sure, and if a Vette can't take it, leave it at the dealership, When I buy a car, it's to drive it, not to have it parked in my garage, if so, in that case, i'll get a pic of a vette and put it on the wall and look at it all day, lol I buy cars to drive them not to be parked.

Never a problem, my wife is most comfortable in the vette for a road trip vs our other vehicles. Still gets a lot of stares and thumbs up....It's a fun ride. My best gas mileage is 33.6 mpg while in the sport mode. Never the eco driving mode.

    1999 C5 daily driver for 5 years (now drive Jaguar F-Type R). Corvette sits low to the ground, obviously, so you will have headlights dazzling you at night. Low ground clearance from the underbody rubber parts - if you damage those you WILL damage your airflow through the radiator and it may well run hot (I live in Phoenix, so this is a serious concern). With the stick, you will have calf cramping in stop & go traffic. Magnetic ride control may now fix this, but harsh bumps are transmitted as a fierce ride. Gas consumption was down to 13mpg (US) for me in the city, where I drive much of the time.
    If you can put up with this, it's an awesome daily driver.

    7 years late, but I just bought a 16 Z51 and It rides STUNNINGLY well, but regardless of the bodykit, YOU can't be too much of a widebody to fit in the stock seats. I'm 6'3-6'5(legit cannot figure it out, I must have back issues or something) and am 310lbs and my hips don't lie, and they do not fit in those seats that well. Ground Clearance on the regular one is really good for this type of a car. Had my first incident just this morning with a driveway with REALLY good drainage, and scraped the lip spoiler just a bit. Just got out of a 17 gle 350 and the only things I miss are android auto(getting fixed next week), and the sound insulation with the windows closed. I'd like for the car to be quiet with the doors closed and to deafen me when they're open. Literally my daily driver and even with the 7 speed, it's so gentle and kind in traffic, then will beat the shit out of you in a back alley behind a dennys if you want it you. 10/10 would let it peg me with a dragon dick strap on.

    I daily drove my 1976 C3 automatic up until last year. It's primitive compared to the newer Corvettes, but alway put a smile on my face. All cars are compromises. I miss that car. I never got so many compliments on a car. And this is in car snob Los angeles. I love having outdated stuff. I'm thinking C5 next. The C7 looks like a modernized C3 in fact.

  • @ragequitter
    @ragequitter Před rokem

    C7 owner here. I got the C7 because I was told by the internet that it’s the perfect DD. Let me give you my 2¢.
    First things first, the AFM, also known as cylinder deactivation, is known to cause engine failures due to the deactivated cylinders not getting lubricated. So don’t use it, and don’t bother with the 1-2 more MPG from it.
    The tires are usually special ordered. So if you get a flat, you might be out of commission for a week.
    The tires are super low profile. This means you have to avoid potholes or else. A month ago I hit two potholes that were unavoidable unless I swerve into the vehicles next to me. It got my whole two front tires.
    None of the expendable parts are cheap. This includes the brakes and tires.
    Carbon fiber, fiberglass, and aluminum are not easy to fix or replace. You have to be on your toes. All but the aluminum do not sit well in the sun also.
    There’s no way around the blind spots unless you adjust your mirrors to view them. I do this and it works fine. You won’t see the lines behind you though like for reverse parking. The camera is inaccurate and makes me park crooked.
    The leather is not the best. It wears quickly. It will wear quickly with daily driving.
    That’s all I can think of. The vehicle has been great to DD otherwise. I get 25-27 mpg freeway because the people in front of me do not keep consistent speeds. I could get 29-30 on a smooth day with uphills and downhills. I get about 15-18 in the city. Premium gas.

    Long time C5 (daily) driver.
    This is mostly fair. But the rubber air dam that hangs down is important in managing air flow - before the Corvette got the radiator grille it was even more critical. I hit something that bent the cross member that the air dam was mounted on, messing up airflow and it always ran hot after that - and I live in Phoenix.
    With a stick shift, I was occasionally stuck in stop/go traffic on the freeway and the combination of hot car and heavy clutch left me feeling miserable after 30 minutes.
    At night, expect to be dazzled LOTS. Line of sight is a problem at times, and on city streets that can suck.

    • @supralyfe1206
      @supralyfe1206 Před 2 lety

      I know this is old but its to reduce drag not help with cooling. The front mount grille on the hood is to help with cooling by extracting the hot air that passes through the radiator instead into the bay and the other vents depending on what trim you have.

    Hi was wondering if I drive a Corvette daily until it hits 50,000 mileage, is the car pretty much junk? or even 100,000 mileage. Someone told me once a sport car goes up in mileage, it's not that good anymore. A Ferrari with over 50k miles isn't worth much anymore. I do know Luxury car brands can go up in mileage can still be ok for some reason.

      Id say corvettes are overall very reliable for a sports car and you'll be able to get WAY over 50K miles with proper maintenance. At the end of the day It is a Chevrolet that you can get fixed almost anywhere.

      Not a problem. We drove last weekend for 5+ hours on the way back from a vacation spot and cabin noise is no problem. Bumpy, ill-maintained roads can be a little jarring, though.

      I am on the fence between buying a new C7 and a new Camaro as well, but the C7 is way more sexy. If you take a look at the back seats of a Camaro you will see that they are only really good for kids and small adults and would probably be uncomfortable for long trips regardless. If you are thinking about room for luggage the C7 has tons of it. I am leaning toward a C7.

    the seats in the new Camaro are much better than those C7´s ! I drove both now and these unadjustable headrests sucks big time for tall people.
    And the rearcam do not show the huge blindspots at the angles where you definately see NOTHING ! In fact the cam must either be connected to the steering wheel and turn about 30° left and right or they have to put in 2 cams with 30° angle . Further more it has NO blindspot warnings in the side mirrors like Camaro´s have !

    • @pentiumradeon
      @pentiumradeon Před 7 lety +1

      Which would you consider a better car? I am debating getting either a current year 2ss or a 2016 base stingray

    • @kubanskiloewe
      @kubanskiloewe Před 7 lety

      hard to decide, especially for a european ;-)
      sometimes i would defiantely go with the C7 EU version which is Z51 package. It has also a better trunk area and easier to load things; c7 is impressive in that !
      But for daily driving i would take a camaro with sunroof !
      It offers most things of the C7 (engine,autotansmission and 4pipes exhaust as well as magnetic ride control) further more it has more safety features like blindspot warning and it has a catch can from factory ! Remember these DI engines with only 8 direct fuel injectors let the inlet valves get dirty after a while and the announced 2018 Mustang will have it´s coyote engine first time with DI injection BUT with 16 ! injectors; 8 direct and 8 indirect for prevent this awful downside od DI engines like ecoboost and TFSI have.
