I think it's common in any culture where poverty has been a thing and food has been scarce at some point for a significant amount of time, it doesn't matter how the food tastes, you compliment the chef and thank for the plentiness even if you only got a little. It doesn't look like these people are living in poverty, so they can prank each other with their cultural expectations just for fun. Sure, a tyrannical person can just be nasty and over-do it, but can't tell that from a single video.
@@lassesipila6418 I have lived through many years of poverty, and I for sure have this thing where I always show gratitude for food. Even if it doesn't taste great, I have that instinct to show gratitude, and eat it. But I also have a certain family member who does not take criticism lightly. I am legit afraid to be truthful with her, about pretty much anything. While, in most situations, I will show gratitude, and also be honest with how the food tastes, with her, I just don't really say much of anything.

7:50 this is so true, I've worked in a retail store as a Dairy Stocker and did my job well, most of the time I did above and beyond. My manager and I would complete in 8 hours what is supposed to be the job of 4 people, I worked for an entire year that way, corporate would come in, thank us, tell us that they are impressed, leave, rinse and repeat. A year passed by and I asked for a raise, they denied it so quick, and I felt like my work was for nothing. That unmotivated me by a lot, I put in my 2 weeks after I found a company that would pay me a lot more, for practically the same job. These people had the audacity to fire me the day after I put in my 2 weeks notice.
Yikes man 😬, I hear stories like this all the time, I'm scared of getting a job because of stuff like this. Hopefully your new job is treating you good though 👍

One of my family members worked 14 hour shifts every day for 3 months, drove to other stores to pull in more overtime and could do the work of 4 people. But they became a scapegoat for corporate and was denied at every turn for promotion. While another one of my family members had almost gotten fired because they were trying to make a lazy coworker help them clean. The lazy coworker went to management and had my family member give up their trainer licence for the company. Never mind the lazy coworker was only in the company because of nepotism and had family in management. And I myself was denied multiple pay raise requests. While there are a lot of bad jobs and shitty bosses, there can be very good bosses and great jobs. The one I am in is really kind to me and I can do the bare minimum without some management type breathing down my neck.

He kept asking and kept telling them that I was his only worker, and he didn't want to lose me. The man tried his best to give me max pay. About 2 months after my raise got turned down my cousin offered me the Dairy Manager position at an HEB, they would pay me $18 an hour off the bat, I accepted than started working there 2 weeks later. Told my manager that I would be quitting, he was both sad and happy for me. I miss him, dude was the only cool guy in that store.
@@hunter855 Don't be scared, there are good managers and bad managers everywhere, you'll most likely work different jobs through out your life and unfortunately you'll have jobs that just suck, both the excruciating work combined with toxic management. Hopefully you get lucky and have a good offer come to you as it came to me. Also yes, my new job is treating me good. I have a great relationship with my coworkers and higher ups. I get paid very well and often get overtime.

6:32 I have earbuds that have lasted me several years. It really depends on how much you keep wrapping them up and unwrapping them and the weakest point tends to be near the edge of where it plugs into your device because it's usually straight so it keeps bending constantly. The solution I find is to get earbuds that turn 90 degrees by default so there is less stress at that area.

@@buddabudda Being a cat person, I did know it was hunter mode. Though, I've seen cats do that for anything they want to hunt, not just birds. I've seen one do that to a piece of ribbon hanging from an AC vent. And animals hunting is natural... just don't let them hunt other pets.
The eyes were not full hunter mode. I suspect she is reading off a screen, and it has a 'sing here' marker that is likely red... and the cat is probably looking at that like a laser pointer dot.
I've also met cats that imitate their human's behaviours. One friend's cat actually comes to the door with her, then when I'm let in, she says 'hi' and the cat gives a quick meow before heading off to do whatever. It is adorable. There is a chance the cat is just imitating the singing... unlikely, but I wouldn't put it past a cat.
I've had plenty of family members not happy with me for telling them what I thought of different foods they cooked, especially when growing up, but even when I was younger I thought that it was far better to try to tell people when you thought something wasn't good so that they don't either waste their time making it for you again OR possibly considering if they might need to work that on. When it comes to food especially there is no reason to lie just to save someone's feelings because not only will you be unhappy about it but they will also be wasting food that could be improved with just a little effort.

13:40 My experience with hard core Southern accented and extreme southern stereotypes in general is that they can fit in to the most unexpected situations one could ever suppose.
A guy that was barely understandable for most everyone else in English by Americans (from Louisiana) was able to speak the most perfect of bottom dialects in Japan almost immediately. Grandpa's and Grandma's understood him astoundingly. It was simply amazing. We would have to practice 河内 (Kawachi) incessantly to get anywhere near his automatic out of the box ability to speak 河内 it was simply shocking, Well, at least for the first hour. It became okay after awhile, but everyone knew it wasn't normal.

Apparently Terry crews used to be a courtroom sketch artist before joining the NFL. While in the NFL he used to commission drawings of fellow football players. I learn something new every day. I knew he was a gamer nerd but I wasn't aware of his artistic ability. More respect for him every day.

the WW2 landing craft there, my grandfather had the job of driving one of those boats from the ship to the beach. untill just a few years ago he refused to tell me the story of what he had been through and what his job actually was. the man lived till just 10 days shy of his 99th birthday. when he saw some dude in a dress, he would shake his head and say his parents failed their child for them to turn out that way. and after learning what he did and had to do i think he has the right to his opinion about the world today.
He didn't want to tell you, to protect you. It's why my husband doesn't want me watching the drone footage from the war in Ukraine. There is no glory in war, it is and always will be a slaughter, using machines and tools of combat to turn men and women into meat, rendering flesh from bone, cooking people alive... which brings about a smell that only war has and it's odor haunts those that have that experience. He hoped and prayed that you would never join him in that terrible thing, to be a witness to war.

About the southern accent Japanese thing. Most of the English voice acting for Osakan Japanese sounds like Southern American accent. I always get Major Foghorn Leghorn vibes when that happens.
Osaka is _the other_ entertainment city but with a more comedy culture vs Tokyo's straightlace drama tradition. Going the other way with dubbing foreign stuff for Japanese audiences: If they got a Texas or New Jersey accent in American or a Scottish or Cockney accent in British, odds are the Tokyo-jin will give the character to an Osaka comedy guy.
