Tal vs Botvinnik 1960
Moscow
No sooner did Mikhail Botvinnik regain his title, the chess world became entranced by charismatic young Latvian named Mikhail Tal. Tal won the 1958 interzonal tournament at Portoroz, then helped the Soviet Union to retain the Chess Olympiad; before going on to win the 1959 Candidates Tournament with 20 out of 28 points--a point and a half ahead of second place Paul Keres.
Tal often sacrificed material in search for the initiative in chess. With such intuitive sacrifices, he created vast complications, and many masters found it impossible to solve all the problems he created over the board, though deeper post-game analysis found flaws in some of his conceptions. Although this playing style was scorned by ex-World Champion Vasily Smyslov as nothing more than "tricks", Tal convincingly beat every notable grandmaster with his trademark aggression.

Now I can impress the ladies with my extensive knowledge of the 1959 candidates tournament then seal the deal with my knowledge of the 1960 world chess championships
You will soon be exploding the populations of entire nations! But, beware of chaffing.
So creepy...
this comment is legendary
😂😂😂😂 You need a life
Nb1
And resignation
Not only returning the piece to the back rank, but also to the square from where it started the game
(yes, i checked it, the knight that came to b1 is the one that started from there)
"In my beginning is my end", T. S. Eliot wrote. I guess it is true here
Albino Deer Wow! I love this game even more now.
Edit: After a re-watch, I can confirm that it is the same knight.
Edit: This was not an edit at all.
That knight is like the alchemist from Coelho's book.
You sir are an excellent subscriber
What a great master this Tal was!
v. gopalakrishnan 🔬🔬👑
Weird how he could sense such subtle nuances in such complicated positions. Imagine if his health had never interfered with his games.
What a great *monster* this Tal was!
:O I actually liked this more than game 6. That 'allowed the tactic by going out of his way to prevent it' bit was awesome... And watching Tal slowly convert that advantage into a win by playing super-solid moves was brilliant
I recommend this channel to every chess player I know. As always, thanks for the consistent, quality content. Cheers
good dog activity in this video
Did not comment for a long time
Just wanted to let u know that ur still my favourite
That game was intense two pawns opposite sides competing for a queen.🔥🔥🔥
i always though chess was a joke after watching a computer beat a grandmaster
i watched one of your videos and now i can't stop watching every video you upload
keep it up mr. bean
Matthew Kas its like a story going on
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Now for a real challenge, did anyone know if the knight on b1 at the end was the original knight that started there or the other knight.
Alex Eastwood It is indeed the one that started on that square and the more active of the two.
I was up all knight trying to figure it out.
It was beautiful to see the two knights figure skating on the board
A good lesson of the endgame too at the end.
Love the videos, Agad.
Early in the morning I get my coffee, eggs, and toast. I see agadmator uploaded. Click on it to watch while I eat. HELLLOOOO EVERYONE!!! Jumped and spilled coffee on my eggs.
Ye, who doesn't like a agad?
You are a genius agadmator.your voice is too tempting .it feels i listening a soft music.
Such a narrow victory. Very gallant effort from Botvinnik.
This is amazing!!! and its is even more amazing to those who have read "Tal-Botvinnik, 1960 by Mikhail Tal" you do capture the essence.
I thought I knew chess quite well but after trying to study the moves of Tal, I conclude that I do not know this game enough
Your voice helps me have a great nap. Thank you
Royal chariot by the legend himself
Never saw this game before. I did see the previous two wins before as they we're a bit complicated and talked about a lot but never this one. Thanks for sharing.
U know that the channel is fantastic when people pride in 1st view, like and comment :D keep up the excellent work 👍 #tal
That was an awesome game! Very neat tactics coming out of nowhere!
Lovely end game by the attacking genius Tal!
It would be so great to see Tal.1960 vs Magnus!
Tal a true legend!! Thanks AGodMater!
Nb1 is setting up for the next game
شكراً 🙋🏻♂️🧞♂️🧙🏻♂️
Regarding the question at 13:42. Why not Nf6+? Then black king moves. White can then play Ne8, blocking the Rook from stopping promotion. The Knight on d2 can easily stop promotion of the passed black pawn.
the king attacks the knight then so it has to move away then promotes.
_Because after nf6 check, King still reach the e7 square so that ne8 was useless_
the dog at 2:40
The dog is hilarious XD
I'm just guessing but, methinks Fischer studied/learned a lot of/from Tal in aggressive/sacrificial chess strategy(ies). Would be very interesting to see a chart of how all of the modern day/major world champions fared against one another, W-L-D, career wise. I'd bet there were some P.I.T.A. matchups for many of them that would make for good stories.
I used to be a Berlin player, but recently I started playing the Caro Kahn and I m faring fairly well, it's my favourite opening right now, I seem to play better with Caro Kahn than the berlin, go figure
That dog on the couch is so distracting and cute! I love Medo
great game
Great video, like always, and a very instructive endgame from which even untalented players like me can learn something!
I can't wait for the next two games, I know that they are going to be amazing!
I am speechless... What a game..
Your dog loves that couch lol. Love your channel
Hello, saw an amazing game the other day between Karpov+Anand+Kramnik against 3 russian talents!! You'll find it by searching 3 world champions against 3 russian talents, amazingly rare to see the world champions discuss chess. You could check it out if u want, Great video!!
Kasper K0210 the talents were nepo and karjakin and one other guy
Kasper K0210 I think agadmator should cover this exhibition. It shows clash of styles and it would be fun to analyze.
TUSHAR BASRA dubov or something like that
Tal had all these crazy berserker moves, yet he was also brilliant.
An amazing game! Basically Botvinnik just blundered by allowing Tal the tactick after Nh5
*Tal is Legendary Master of All Time Salute to Your Legacy💪✨👏*
Wonderful both the game and the explanation!
It seemed to me, that the end game began as soon as they traded Queens,,,, great game. ! Go Tal. !!!!
Two monster players!
These kind of players doesn't exist now a days!
Wow
That king move caught me off guard ..i was hoping for knight to f6 😂😂😂😂 tal is tal
9:30 brilliant!!!
A move with knight backwards ends this one. Ivanchuck approves ;)
You know what i mean if you watched his interview from Gibraltar :D
I made the right end game move. Felt good... then I remembered I had to study for tomorrow's physics test😂
I was watching round 6 when u uploaded this.
Agad, it would be nice if you made some tutorial videos concerning openings. Those would be amazing with your style of exploring variations.
Your dogs antics really distracted me 🐕
Ah, Medo's youthful panting backscratching antics! (at 2:36) It is 2022 and the Candidates is over and there is a little time to catch up on Tal-Botvinnik.
Tangled in Tal's Tactics!
Tal se taal mila.... oooooo..... 😂❤
I found the secret move! It's obvious - the king has to be protected by the knight.
#suggestion Adhiban Bhaskaran vs Richard rapport Reyjavik open round 8. Especially suggested this one cause I know you like Adhiban's style
Forgot to mention 2018 but you will get that
Antonio, not sure why you keep putting stress on the first syllable in Botvinnik's surname. It's Botvi'nnik, with the stress on the first "i". In any case, thanks for the very good video!
Two Knights are stronger than one Rook,,, What a Great game !!! ,, 😁🖒
It's shocking to lose a championship game with white pieces. This was probably the turnaround of this competition.
WHEN YOU LIKE EVERY VIDEO ON THE CHANNEL EVEN BEFORE YOU START WATCHING IT, YOU KNOW YOU'RE HOOKED!
ur rlly good agadmator.. love you
Best part: 01:27
For me this game was as good as game 6.Two knights vs a rook endgame was nothing short of a thriller.
Wonderful game by the magician from riga...
Found the winning move!!! I'm so proud of myself!!!
I'm around 1650 elo
11:44 why does the rook not capture the knight?
Mighty - Mobile Gaming You get knight e-4 winning the rook
Paul Tycheros oh yea. Thanks for that 👍
2:35 it’s almost like something eats medo behind the chair
- " Stop playing RODEO with your white knights, we're not at the !#$@$! circus ! " (Botvinnik, angry)
- " Hee Haw ! I won !... " (Tal, happy)
You know what's an even more brilliant move than rook to B6? 6:40
Dog to couch2 2:37
Can you analysis after this series the la bourdannious vs alexander mcdonnell games from 1838
Waw
Thanq Antonio ~
Amazing Knights
fantastic channel!
I didn't get the king to f3move.. Though maximum times I get the correct move when you say pause the video and analyze but this time I didn't.. The reason I lose end games many times.
These two Masters must have enjoyed playing each other,,, they are such great competition for one another , I enjoy every game played between them, and feel there was a mutual respect between them ,,, Just great chess !!! 😁🖒♕♔
I'm proud of myself, I found the move!
What a match!!
Best vid ever
Who wants video on medo?
have Medo do analysis on game 8
Who doesn't ?
At the end king f5 looks interesting too what do you think ? @agadmator ?
why didnt the black rook take the knight on g5 instead of the pawn at 11:43??? could have been 1 less knight to deal with into the end-game.
akattom then tal would play knight to e4 forking king and rook
White knight forks rook and king
I bet you're less than 1100 elo
Okay thanks for the answer guys. Yes I am not a very good chess player that's why I asked the question. No need to be rude.
I 💘 Bobby,but Tal is the Best
Had to rewind due to crazy dog distraction 😂
Incredible
Never clicked so fast
I'm a little confused by 34.Nxg5 Rxb3...
why wouldn't Botvinnik not capture the knight that just moved to g5?
Boy, these two certainly know how to put on a show ! Lol !!!! 😜🖒♕♔
🔥🔥🔥
Just out of curiosity
On move 44 instead of Nh7
Can Nf6 be a idea
After that Ne6
I found the move, yeahhhhh!!
Could you analize what if after pawn to d3 and king to d4 what will happen please
exciting game.
Stupid (k)night, something I said often in my 20s
13:54
Me: King f5
Thanks for the nice match
I came here for Tal's brilliancy, but stayed because of Agad's dog.
I like how tal is kind to his opponent! He likes his moves if they are strong
knight comming back all the way to b1 to end the game is kinda poetic
Any reads for some good openings?
