Tal vs Botvinnik 1960
Moscow
No sooner did Mikhail Botvinnik regain his title, the chess world became entranced by charismatic young Latvian named Mikhail Tal. Tal won the 1958 interzonal tournament at Portoroz, then helped the Soviet Union to retain the Chess Olympiad; before going on to win the 1959 Candidates Tournament with 20 out of 28 points--a point and a half ahead of second place Paul Keres.
Tal often sacrificed material in search for the initiative in chess. With such intuitive sacrifices, he created vast complications, and many masters found it impossible to solve all the problems he created over the board, though deeper post-game analysis found flaws in some of his conceptions. Although this playing style was scorned by ex-World Champion Vasily Smyslov as nothing more than "tricks", Tal convincingly beat every notable grandmaster with his trademark aggression.

"You Could Simply Spit In Your Opponents Face" - Agadmator 2018
God i love this channel.
Fardin Feiz liked but please edit spelling of opponent. Nice comment.😉
You Don't Need To Write Each Word With The Initial Cap... that's not correct dude. Just why man? A lot of people does that and it's actually ridiculous, I will never understand it.
Joel Grammar nazis strike.😂
Joel You Don't Need To Whine About Everything, Just Enjoy The Video Man Ffs
Edit: just typed everything in capital letters :)
Fardin Feiz Of course I enjoy agadmator's vids, in fact, Im here since his channel only had 7k subs.
But that's another story, I just saw your Comment With The Fking Caps, and I had to point it hehe. Have a nice day man!
“Hello everyone.” -agadmator. My favorite chess opening.
it's up there with "hi everyone it's jerry"
Me too
Here here
That Bc7 move by Tal preventing Rc1+ was amazing!
Botvinnik being 25 years older, or twice Tal's age, I find it astonishing how good he was.
When Botvinnik requested the time out Tal should have insisted that a doctor from Riga examine Botvinnik.
Is that a Capablanca joke?
@@KojinMacJorn It's a reference to what Botvinnik did when Tal wanted to postpone the rematch, because he was very ill.
"There are two types of sacrifices - good ones and mine." - Mikhail N. Tal
Best quote ever!!!
#Suggestion One of the games of the called "Argentinian tragedy" where in the 1955 Gotemburg torunament Pilnik, Panno and Najdorf (Argentina) tried to set a trap in the Najdorf variant of the sicilian for Spassky, Geller and Keres in their respective games and went terribly wrong
I was positively surprised by seeing yet another Tal-Botvinnik game! Thank you for showing this great game!
"They knew that he would do something, they just didn´t know what it was." and "I do hope you enjoyed it, Botvinnik definitely didn´t!" - agadmator! Love those humorous comments in between your great analysis and coverage of the games. Thank you for yet another brilliant video!
Agadmator thx to u, I impressed my dream girl with my knowledge of tal v Botvinnik. Thx agad!!
asdf movies mr steal your girl😏
Now show her a nice picture of Ivanchuk and seal the deal ;)
heel Jadu you are probably new to this channel?
*vast knowledge
Does were the happy day for Misha , nothing could go wrong. Agadmator’s thank you for introducing the new generations to Botvinnik . He is one of the greatest. Three times world champion. He battle, from Capa to Petrosian, every great player of his times. Must times he came on top.
# please give us the pleasure of showing the 1961 match even if not in deep.
This is the first time after almost 4 months of watching your videos that I've correctly guessed the winning move! Thank you for rekindling my love for chess, Antonio.
I found Bc7!! I feel so awesome!
It was an awesome move, mate! Congrats!
I highly doubt that everyone found it. Yes, I did find the follow up.
I would've never found it unless I knew there is a crazy killer move. I would've never considered it in a regular game.
no one would have found this move if there was an another defensive option
I guessed that move! After watching almost all Tal's game I couldn't believe I found it
Too bad this series is gonna end soon.. Loving it!!!
Yeah, why can't it be the year 1960 again!
Thats why you can watch it over and over and over
Until you become a GM
Best chess channel on CZcams. Hands down. I can't say it enough.
This is amazing!!! and its is even more amazing to those who have read "Tal-Botvinnik, 1960 by Mikhail Tal" you do capture the essence.
Lord Agadmator killing it today :D. 2 More games!!
Since I've heard about Tal's hyppo story, I've been thinking that if I was his opponent, I wouldn't mind being defeated by the greatest attacker of all time.
What I really would have feared would be the following press conference.
I can't imagine learning that while I was giving all myself, I got crushed by someone thinking about drowning animals and such.
#suggestion Hou Yifan vs Borya Ider, Gibralter Masters 2017. Hou Yifan sacrifices her queen for two pieces and wins positionaly, and not with a direct mate!
12:24 "Spit in your opponent's face" I love it. Show that you have all the time in the world and you can simply troll them and make them suffer for another move or two.
Хвала вам, господине Радићу, за велики допринос светском шаху.
"You can spit in your opponents face " LOL
Thank you so much for this series of grate games.
Very much appreciated.
I hope you will find the time to continue with series like this in the future.
You are the best!
“Young man, consider that the train has left, and all you can do is loudly slam the door in farewell.”
― Mikhail Tal
Smashing, my friend. Smashing.
#suggestion next series do Kasparov-Karpov first world championship match. That’d be sweet.
You mean all these draws and 48 games in total? Cmon, no need to torture internet.
😂
Lol omg I’m an idiot. I got the matches confused. Lol yeah that would be dumb. Glad I gave you guys a laugh
8:21 Nice Rook lift over there 💪
I found bishop to C7 @ 10:23 but didn't find the next move queen to B5. I'm impressed by the great foresight of Tal with this idea. Great series!
yeah it's funny. Qb5 is almost the more brilliant move. but dude. Bc7 blew my mind.
Wow great game by two true geniuses
I am also lobbying for a comprehensive review of the 1972 World Chess Championship between Boris & Bobby, since that match basically led to the U.S. chess boom of the 70's... C'mon Tony, you know you can do an amazing synopsis of this legendary match!
#DEVIOUS @5:58 Always love when Antonio characterizes a move or a plan as "devious".
"You could simply spit in your opponent's face" I FUCKING LOVED THAT HAHAHA
what a simply elegant game-changer move Bc7. Immortal.
I love this channel. Keep the great work :D
Hey, I'm like a beginner but I'm learning and watching these games , even if I don't understand just gives me comfort and kinda motivates me to keep going. I don't think I'll get to like that level but it's just cool man.
Bc7.. insane!! and then Qb5..man these guys are good.
I love picturing Tal spitting on Botvinnik’s face
I love your series. Please don't spoil the results if possible, I avoid checking the games out before watching your videos to keep the element of surprise!
It seems like once 3 points down, Botvinnik was thinking more about his right to a rematch than this match.
whatching chess & laughing at the same time is something you didn't say possible before finding out this channel
That hearthstone reference though...
By the way, i got some powerful cards this new year as bonus (not to be confused, it's new year in hearthstone world). It really made me happy that they added another story in solo adventures.
"Spit in the opponent's face"... Great 😂😂
8:23 in this position rook was the imposter wearing bishops clothes!
Hi Agad! After showing us the end of this amazing match, I would love if you could show us one of the greatest chess game ever played: it’s Bogoljubov vs Monticelli played in Sanremo in 1930. Even if you don’t want to make a video about it I would advise you to watch that game just to enjoy a magnificent piece of art! Thank you and see you soon! #suggestion
That Bc7 move was pretty cool!
Nice, Witchwood was released yesterday, so I hope you're having a great time with those cards.
I love tal style rather than botvinik,he seems like the man who never afraid face a risky deal (Tal) rather than botvinik play slow and waiting for chances
Like and enjoy the site. However, the recent addition of visual words, block the sight of the movement of pieces in the lower board view, (esp on mobile phone). Very distracting. Keep up the good show. Thanks, from Sarah
Hey agadmator, I wanted to tell you i got inspired by tal, and i went pirating last night. Im only a 1170 player cause I am new to chess. I learned alot from your channels and Im beating 1700 rated players and maybe even above. I play positional and dangerous lol, Im still figuring out my style . But thank you bro.
Thanq Antonio ~
I found Bc7 in five seconds. But no pressure for someone watching a video decades after the event.
#suggestion Fischer-Spassky 1972 series - "Match of the Century".
Now this, is interesting chess. Love the opening.
Jolly Good Show Olde’ Boy 🎩
Bc7. Wow, what a move...
Wow. This is the highest level of chess. Impressive game
"This is game number 19, I do hope you enjoyed it. Botvinnik definitely didn't."
Found it in 2 seconds! Now if only I could find the other critical moves OTB... 😂
I always find the tal move! The problem is.....tal could also find the continuation
” Tal can spit into his opponent’ a face”!!!!✌️😉
I hope you gonna do more series’s of games like Tal vs Botvinik. :)
I am an absolute Noob at chess, but I enjoy watching you, Keep up the great work
I rarely find those "2 seconds pause" moves but when I do I cheer like a little boy.
This is like Fischer vs Spassky when Fischer won the world champion four points in the lead
Very interesting game. Thank you
#suggestion Can you make the series of the 1935 championship match between Alekhine and Euwe?
That c7 move, that was pretty hard to find, indeed a great move.
It was easy to find.
Thank you Sir.
Take a shot of beer everytime agadmator says “ahh”
That Bc7 move reminds me to Karpov's Ba7 move against Unzicker.
#suggestion shirov vs polgar 1994 polgar immortal
I second this #suggestion
What an interesting game!
Tal vs Botvinnik, here we go, almost at the end! \o/
the summary of the series: botvinnik is in time trouble
Tal's brain was amazing
Really heart breaking that Mikhail botvinnik didn't continue and resign
Tal always has a trick up his sleeve. He is a devil😁
Is that a little reference to the Hearthstone Witchwood expansion under Tal's chin? Released today!
BLESS YOU
oh my god i got it @10:24 !!!
i tried counting the number of 'aaaa' by agadmator. aaa i failed :p
At least for one time I figured out the "pause the video" move. The only problem is that I didn't figured out all the possible following combination.
Dr robotnivvic just got Tal'ed
1972 world chess championship #suggestion
Bharathi Dasan the candidates first
hell yeah!!!!
I would never ever resign at this position
That does seem like a weird resignation. What’s the upside? It’s almost conceding the whole match at this point.
Wow you are so fast today mr
Well, I was initially disgusted with this 1. f5 but at the end of a day, not a bad game
🔥🔥🔥
Fabiano Caruana games #suggestion
I admire Botvinnik, but was disappointed at his giving in without a fight.
And,,,,,, this why they are Chess Masters ! 😁✌♕♔
At 10:14, when the vid was paused, how would Rd3 have worked? Then if Rc1+, Rd1 blocks the check. Not as pretty as Bc7, though!
12:20 :-) HAHAHAHA! Spit in your opponents face HAHAHAHAHA!
The title has some sweet Sherlock Holmes vibes going on
Can you do Agadmator vs Carlsen
* 1960 TOURNAMENT *
- " WHAT !? You guys started the game already ?"
(Oops ! I wasn't even BORN in 1960...) 😭
Hello everyoneee!! After so many hello everyones, I improved quite a lot
