  • PLEASE WATCH THE ORIGINAL VIDEO FIRST: • Zelda & Link's Love | ...
    A few weeks ago, I uploaded a Zelink Theory video which proved that Zelda loves Link and that Link loves Zelda using evidence from both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. You all really liked it and since I encouraged you to put in your own opinions and theories in the comments of that video, I figured I ought to make a reaction video going through all those comments. Thank you and enjoy!

    If you start the game presuming they are married/together, it really changes how you view different scenes, and enhances the stakes and emotions of the game. I personally find it to be the most enjoyable way to experience the story.

    At 3:00 don’t worry about not reading that super long comment, because I read the tiny text on the screen, and it was all copium about Link and Mipha being together and that Link never loved Zelda and that Zelda actually pushed Link away and that Link was only ever doing his job. That was the WHOLE thing. Followed by the fate of the other Link’s previous relationships, where it mentions: Marin, who they say Link gets with but we know he doesn’t because she’s not real. Ilia, which is not a confirmed relationship as they claimed it was, and they mentioned Link and Malon, which is the only one I agree with in all of that, oh wow.

    I love how your video brought together a good chunk of the community! Still love the Zelink editing so much. This one is fun as well!
    I wanted to mentioned this before in the other video, but I had no idea how to say it without reaching that much. But in this one I think I wasn't the only one thinking that there was a lot of symbolism with the hand-grabbing. I didn't really noticed the loyalty thing as part of the symbolism (but I can agree that its a nice point of view) but you know how the prolougue music has like a hand-clapping sound effect? That sound can be also heard at the very end when Link grabs Zelda. It almost felt like a foreshadow to me! That sound was supposed to happen in the end and was already referenced in the very beginning. Its even the same sound effect.
    Tbf I dunno what we can accomplish with this but I guess its a nice foreshadow (to me at least).

    Tbh I am not very compelled by the point about Mipha; something people forget is that pre-calamity Hyrule is a very different place from post-calamity Hyrule and seems to have had much stronger social constraints than what was left behind. Zelda's court poet was scandalized by Zelda's affections for Link bc he was a commoner but 100 years later, people speculate about them together without batting an eye about his lack of nobility. I don't get the impression Mipha and Link were together before the Calamity or even that Link was aware of her affections. Mipha planning to propose imo is no evidence of their relationship, just the relationship SHE was hoping to put forward. In totk, we get to see a Zora marriage with Sidon and Yona and the way its presented is fairly casual; they were married automatically when Sidon ascended the throne with no separate ceremony for the marriage itself. The armour Mipha had prepared for Link in Botw (it was the Zora armour she was going to propose with, not her spear. You get the spear/trident by finishing the dungeon, as you do with every champion's weapon) to me would have been the gesture with which Mipha expressed her interest in Link in that manner. Should Link have accepted, they would have been engaged and then married once Dorphan handed down the throne to Mipha-which presumably would have happened sooner with Mipha alive. I don't think Mipha was proposing the way a modern person proposes--after a long time of dating--she was proposing the way people used to hundreds of years ago--the proposal is the declaration itself of romantic intentions. And Mipha never got around to actually giving Link that armour.
    This is just my long-winded way of saying I don't see a problem with you not covering Mipha in the original vid because I don't think her intentions really need addressing since they were left unsaid.

    • @joypink5599
      @joypink5599 Před 9 měsíci +2

      Exactly. I love Mipha, but Miphlink is definitely not legit. When you do the dlc for BotW, you get the opportunity to read Mipha’s diary, and Mipha expresses how much she cares for Link, and then she says that when she hears of Link and Zelda being paired as Princess and knight she’s insecure as they’ll be spending much time together. Another entry says that on one of Link’s rare visits to the Domain, he seemed as though he was always looking past her and that he had become very quiet. After Mipha says she’s completed the armor and intends to give it to Link one evening, there is no subsequent entry, leading me to believe she chickened out. Also in the dlc, each time you defeat Waterblight Ganon in the illusory realm, you get up to 5 new lines of dialogue from Mipha, and in one she says “do you know what happened 100 years ago? Why that armor fits you so well?” And another time seems about to say how much she cares for Link and in what way, but simply says, “never mind.” Along with Link not being in possession of the Zora Armor (Dorephan and Sidon still have it) and the fact that Link only remembers by focusing on her likeness, I think Mipha’s love was never able to be expressed.
      It’s so sad.
      It makes me wonder what would’ve happened had she asked him, if she had offered the armor. Would he have said yes, or was he already invested in someone else, or did he just not feel that way? We’ll never know.

    The japanese version of the mission logs is essentially Link's journal, documenting his journey and even writing hilarious bits in there showing his personality. We were robbed of that in the english version.

  • @Velarieth
    @Velarieth Před 11 měsíci +21

    I'm at the start of the video, so I don't know if this gets corrected later. The Japanese version of the game does NOT say "our house."
    A disclaimer, I think the two do live together in the house. What I'm about to say is only a correction on this, fairly common myth, on what the Japanese says.
    There are two places the house is talked about; Zelda's Journal, and the title of the well.
    In the journal Zelda calls the house "家" (pronounced: ee-eh) which is just the Japanese word for "house" or "the house." It is possible, with context, for that word to mean a shared house, but that context doesn't exist, from what I've seen, in Zelda's journal. She just calls it "the house."
    The well title in Japanese is "ゼルダの家の井戸" (pronounced: zeruda no ee-eh no ee-doh) which is just "Zelda's house well" or "Zelda's house's well."
    Also, since I'm talking Japanese, the ending phrase that Zelda uses, "ただいま" (pronounced: tadaima) is used by family members and people that the speaker is very close to. So that part is correct.

    • @wiskerfall4519
      @wiskerfall4519 Před 11 měsíci +1

      Just wondering I am aware that the translation of the diary is “the house” witch is still more neutral than English But regardless. Is the tadaima super strong evedance for Zelda and link being lovers? I’ve seen this mentioned by multiple native speakers suck as yourself I’ve seen some say that Zelda could only say that specific tadaima if she was in relationship with link because it’s only ment for family or lovers. Basically I’m just asking if it is strong evidence that they are lovers

    • @Velarieth
      @Velarieth Před 11 měsíci +8

      @@wiskerfall4519 It's not "super strong," no.
      It means they are close. It's something that she could say to him as a close friend. Emphasis on the word, 'could.' Or it could be as a lover. Or a family member. But it definitely means they are very close.
      There's more too it too. In Japanese, Zelda speaks using 敬語 (pronounced: keigo) which is 'respectful language.'
      So, when she talks, she will use honorifics with people, she ends her sentences often in ます or です. It helps reinforce her elevated position/royalty. As a side not, this is one reason they gave royalty in the English dub an English accent. It helps preserve the distinct way they speak in Japanese. But that's a whole other thing.
      Anyway, when Zelda talks to Link, she doesn't use any honorifics at all. I'm not super far into learning the language (I'm only 2.5 years in to studying it). But that, also, speaks to how close they are. As far as I understand it, most friends still use honorifics. Sometimes they are even used between family members. The fact she uses none at all is very casual and informal. Which speaks to how close they are.
      Again, none of that is super strong evidence that they are specifically lovers. But there is no doubt that they are very, very close.

      @wiskerfall4519 Před 11 měsíci +1

      @@Velariethh sorry for assuming you where a native speaker this kinda complicates things a bit I’ve seen people who are actually Japanese point this out and state tone of voice and dilvery of the word are both important one person said that they could only use that specific tamida if they had mutual affection for one and other huh idk at least it isn’t completely wrong like the “our house” thing. Allthough considering how strong the evidence is that they do love each other, this in conjunction with other evidence can be seen as making the case stronger because Zelda is definitely in love with link via the whole kass song and link is strong implied to also be in love with her now because of the whole Japanese shika slate logs that where removed from his journal. So it’s hard not to see it at least from my perspective not to see their closeness as the romantic type

Some people just miss it because it’s a cultural thing idk

    • @Velarieth
      @Velarieth Před 11 měsíci +5

      @@wiskerfall4519 I think I might have miscommunicated somewhere. All I said about たいだま was that it isn't a strong evidence specifically that they are in a relationship. It is still likely. But it's not like Zelda says 大好きだよ (which means: "I love you") to Link.
      Japanese culture, and by extension, the language, definitely leans on subtlety and suggestion more than being direct and blunt. I could see a native speaker saying that "たいだま" definitely means they are in a relationship. But the few Japanese speakers I've seen comment on it, it doesn't seem that universally definite.
      Let me put it another way. If it is as certain as some of the people you've heard suggest it is, then Nintendo should just come out and say they are in a relationship. Because that would have been close enough to confirmation.
      Personally, I think the ambiguity is dumb. They should just commit to it and stop with the subtle nonsense.

    My headcanon is Link and Zelda have a Phineas and Ferb kind of relationship. Due to Link being a silent type, I imagine he rarely speaks and when he does it's always for an important purpose. And Zelda is the definite type to talk his ear off about her research or new discoveries or things she's excited about in general. I really wanted to see more instances of these two interacting in a casual setting because they seem like they have very chaotic energy.
    Zelda 100% makes Link the subject of her experiments and makes him eat random specimens, stand on top of things she built to see what happens, dresses him up in elemental outfits to test her theories, etc. And I really wanted to see that. I think it would be adorable. We got a taste of it with the one frog cutscene in BOTW.

Yeah, he has a backstory and an intended personality given context, but he can take on whatever personality the player wants with him. You want him to be the silent hero going around righting wrongs and saving the love of his life, the Princess Zelda. Go for it. You want him to be transgender and slaying it with all his fabulous outfits in between slaying Lynels and Gleeox. You do you. Do you want him to be Goku running along the long backs of dragons with his Super Saiyan 3 hair flowing in the wind? Go for it. I wonder...why would Link ever need the option to build a new house far away near TarreyTown, if some say that with all the supposed evidence at hand that his old house in Hateno is now "their" house and not just Zelda's?
    Nintendo could've just as easily changed the layout of the house in Hateno and retroactively tell the player that in the years since BotW there has been minor extensionwork to accomodate them both living there now.
    However, Nintendo shoving the player towards TarreyTown for a new house, while still providing enough details for ZeLink shippers to gush over in Hateno, is perhaps Nintendos' way of appeasing the shippers but still not make it official or something. xD
    Every player in their own head-canon can of course still occupy the old house in Hateno as is, since Link is able to sleep in the bed, but any items stored there on the ground to "live that head-canon" won't persist I believe.

    • @lukejones7164
      @lukejones7164 Před 10 měsíci +4

      People can own more than one house, it's not rocket science lol.
      Also, if Link doesn't live with Zelda with Hateno then Zelda has no actual reason nor motivation to move out of Hyrule Castle and into Hateno Village in the first place. Zelda is never stated to have any personal connection nor history with Hateno in BotW nor TotK, but Link actually does since that house was the one he and his family lived in before the Calamity happened. So Zelda all-of-a-sudden deciding to leave the Castle to take Link's old house without living with him would make absolutely no sense and would be completely random.
