READING YOUR THEORIES on "Zelda & Link's Love"
PLEASE WATCH THE ORIGINAL VIDEO FIRST: czcams.com/video/zzZbaBYxEIc/video.html
A few weeks ago, I uploaded a Zelink Theory video which proved that Zelda loves Link and that Link loves Zelda using evidence from both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. You all really liked it and since I encouraged you to put in your own opinions and theories in the comments of that video, I figured I ought to make a reaction video going through all those comments. Thank you and enjoy!

Another way to prove it in totk is that in Zelda diary she says that links stayed with her all the time when they were across hyrule and then when you finish rebuiling the village attacked by the pirates one guy tells you that zelda often visited that village and the lovers lake, and if link stayed with her all the time like she says en her diary then they both together used to go to that lake, there is a lot more evidences in this case but i only wanted to remark this one

The japanese version of the mission logs is essentially Link's journal, documenting his journey and even writing hilarious bits in there showing his personality. We were robbed of that in the english version.

Chronologically, skyward sword shows a clear romantic relationship between the two. And since they are just constantly reincarnated, it would make sense that their relationship spans the entire timeline.

Here’s another piece of evidence why Zelink is canon: Reason 1: In BOTW, when Link obtains the paraglider, the old man reveals himself to be King Rhoam, the ‘last king of Hyrule’. This means that there wont be any more kings and queens in the forthcoming future of Hyrule. Dont get me wrong Hyrule will still exist but this probably means Zelda will be identified as ‘Princess’ forever and gives her a chance to be with Link as the King and Queen legacy has come to an end Reason 2: Zelda only shows off her true smile when it comes to Link like in the TOTK memory ‘Zelda and Sonia’ when she talks about him or at the end of the game when she says “oh Link im home”

I definitely think the Wild Link and Zelda get together. Zelink isn't necessary _always_ canon but at the very least it's blindingly obvious this Zelda loves Link, and while Link is, of course, mute as ever, context implies the vice versa is true as well.

Wouldn't a romance between the two be important to the story? In Skyward Sword, Zelda clearly loved Link, but we (playing as Link) could choose to make the connections of wanting their relationship to be romantic, friendship only, or business. The kingdom had to start somewhere in Skyward Sword. I tend to think that Zelda and Link of that time married, and helped to start the civilization on the surface.

First time I came back to Link's house: "Wait a minute, this doesn't looks like the house I remember from BotW. Analysis mode on! Pictures of royal horse on the back wall. Two sets of dish on the table. Two people live here. Pictures of the guardians on the second floor, Zelda's journal... Zelda lives here. With Link. One single bed? That Link can use to rest. It's Link's bed. In Zelda's house? They're close, VERY close." I didn't wanted to believe this romance until it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Very good, this is how I interpreted the video (I also added some of my own bits) Zelda and Link's relationship drives the plot of both games. The whole story is based on their relationship, it's like no other Zelda game. Zelda doesn't need to love Link in any previous entry to fulfil her purpose. But in this one, she does. Whether Nintendo want to directly admit it or not, the whole game was designed around "love conquering all". Zelda is struggling throughout BOTW to unlock her powers, and it's because she hasn't found a personal purpose yet. While she knows how important it is to protect Hyrule in the future, this is just an external purpose, and deep down Zelda needs more than just a civilization to protect to drive her motive to unlock her powers. She also needs someone close to her that helps cement her purpose and drives her comfort. This is why Zelda would visit the Lover's Pond a lot, because she needed someone to love, and she couldn't find it. This is something her father couldn't give her, and her mother is dead. Without someone close to protect, she's just a lonely princess taking out a duty. When Link is appointed her knight, Zelda finally finds her personal purpose. Of course, Link was appointed her knight because of her failures to unlock herself. So, she doesn't like him initially, but warms up to him over time after admiring his unwavering courageness, loyalty and commitment, something she didn't have. She thus then realizes why he was appointed her knight. But she wants to understand him more, why is he silent yet so effective, and Link also opens up to her based on her journals. Zelda doesn't have a close relationship with anyone else in these games. It's Link's courage that eventually rubs off on Zelda. Zelda cannot unlock her power if not for her love for Link's courage and selflessness. Mipha states that her healing power works when she thinks of Link, who is her childhood love, and recommends to Zelda that, she can help unlock her power if she thinks of someone she cares deeply about. This is just before havoc breaks loose. When in the vital moment when Calamity Ganon is causing destruction, Zelda unlocks her power while she shields Link from danger. It's an important scene, Zelda finally has someone she admires to protect by her side, not just Hyrule. If Link wasn't there, Zelda probably wouldn't unlock her power. Just as Mipha said, she was thinking of Link in that moment and protecting him to help unlock her power. Simply thinking of Hyrule would have not worked, as it should have worked before otherwise. In Kass' song, we can see that Zelda has love for "her knight" and only has eyes for him. The concept of the "Silent Princess" is a flower representation of Link and Zelda's relationship. It's on the game's main logo. It's the "Silent" Link, and the "Princess" Zelda. It's seen at the end of BOTW, and with flower petals floating everywhere. Petals fly everywhere to symbolize love as seen in the BOTW wedding in Tarrey Town. At the end of the game, Link and Zelda finally get to spend time together after the Calamity is defeated. Zelda has unlocked her power out her motive to protect Link, and now feels at ease. The Kingdom is protected, and now she can spend time with her new personal purpose. In TOTK, she risks draconification because she trusts Link that much. Link's courage has rubbed off on her, and now, she suffers from the fine line between "courage" and "recklessness" that she criticised, but came to love Link for, in BOTW when he saved her from the Yiga. She sacrifices herself in hope Link will come to her, and Hyrule's aid. It's very easy to prove Zelda loves Link due to her character development. It is much harder to prove Link loves Zelda more than a friend, however, this is where Tears of The Kingdom comes in to help complete the narrative. Zelda's draconification is reversed when Link saves her. The legend stated that it was irreversible and she would be an immortal dragon forever, but clearly Link must have harbored some strong feelings towards Zelda to help reverse her back into a human (which Zelda even refers to as a strong, warm, loving embrace), similar to how Zelda needed strong feelings towards someone to unlock her power in BOTW. It's not hard for Link to reciprocate Zelda's feelings. Link will know through other characters that Zelda loves him even if he doesn't catch it directly. Link knows all that Zelda has sacrificed to help him defeat evil, and so, he must do anything to get her back, due to her strong motives which he will naturally feel as well. Link also probably feels lonely. Without Zelda, he also has no purpose. He is her knight after all, so if Zelda dies, he is a failure. The same feelings of loneliness Zelda felt in BOTW, she overcame it when she spent time with Link. Link, now feeling lonely after Zelda's draconification, wants to restore her so they can be together again. Zelda and Link are two sides of the same coin, they have the same strong passion to save the world, and they help realize it through each other, and they cannot complete their mission without each other. Thus its normal for them to also be in love. They can strongly relate, so for them to also possibly share a house makes a lot of sense. When Zelda says "I'm Home" it means they can finally spend time together, once more, as they did at the end of BOTW.

I think Zelda and Link's relationships across the games in general is either platonic or romantic. SS is obvious, the first three Zeldas were basically Mario/Peach dynamic and she wasn't in Link's Awakening. OoT I think was really the first game in the series that helped branch out her character more. I think by this game (5th entry) was when Nintendo decided they wanted to make Zelda and Link more romantically linked with some character development. It wasn't a full fledged out romance but it was quite subtle. Zelda is in disguise as Sheik for most of the game and continuously helps him. I think them playing songs together helps bond them a little. As their encounters became persistent, tensions rose between them, and it looks like Link is curious about her identity which dissettles her. When Link walks next to her outside the Water Temple, she looks quite nervous being quite close to him. You can see she feels regret hiding her true identity from him. She seems relieved to finally reveal herself near the end of OoT and walks closer to him in hope that they no longer have to have a deceitful relationship. At the end of the final battle, they're alone in an abyss together. The ending is bittersweet and Zelda looks torn as their times have to be reversed after their eventful journey together, and I feel as though Zelda probably wanted it to continue in a way but without the havoc. I think in this moment the OoT Zelda loved Link and will miss him and hopes to meet him again and she does as times reverse, but their memories are different. She seems shocked to see Link again. Unfortunately not much more is shown here. But I think this dynamic is what Nintendo tried to build on more in subsequent games but with different interpretations and they nailed it with BOTW/TOTK.

I thought the status quo was that Zelda and Link are shipped together. I've always thought that was weird since they have no chemistry in any piece of media I've seen them in. To the point that it actually makes me kind of mad when I see evidence of the fact they are together. If they're an item, show us, don't tell us. Instead of making us read something where Zelda talks about Link in a maybe romantic way or maybe platonic way, how about show us a cut scene where they're sharing a moment together as people instead of their roles as Knight and Princess. Every cut scene Link has with other characters show a dynamic that is much more balanced and those characters actually show interest in Link. I have no problem with them being together, it would just be nice if they actually acted like they cared about each other. We play literally hundreds of hours as Link, I honestly find myself wanting the character of Link to be happy 😅 as silly as that sounds. A healthy representation of affection would be nice to see instead of a highly unbalanced power dynamic.
