    Once you've gotten into the swing of reading more thoroughly for comps, would you consider making a video about how you manage your reading load? I'm working full time and taking one seminar this semester, and reading one book and writing one review essay a week per class is going to kick my butt once I'm back to taking 2-3 courses at once this fall 😅

    I, from Japan, already applied to graduate school at Princeton at last December and used your tips for writing SOP when I prepared the draft! Thanks to that, I had a chance to be interviewed by professors there, which I couldn't think that would be possible for sure! Thank you soso much and looking forward your further Vlog! Peace!

    I so adore Moo's coat! I prefer goals to resolutions. My own personal goals for 2022 are: read more, continue to improve at photography, continue to study Latin and German, and pay off at least $2,000 of my student loans. I'm looking forward to your reading lists. I love history and the books you are reading are always so interesting.

    I totally get the importance of a workstation!! I thought this semester I would be on campus more, but find I get the most amount of work done when I am at home with my own desk set up :) Also so curious to see how your prepping for comps go - I am taking them late April and am so stressed!!

But seeing you balance allllll the things you do and how much you love your subject matter inspires me. Looking forward to more vlogs and good luck preparing for comps! P.S. I am obsessed with little miss Moo. More Moo please 😍

    What a cute little pup. My granddaughter went to Yale med, she has been working at Yale Hospital as an Pediatric Nurse. I see you choosed not to live on campus, that can be a good thing, makes studying and your private life yours. Years, years ago, Actors Danny K, Jack Cassidy, and others stayed in that building. David Copperfield, John Edwards... I was their bodyguard when they came to NH. When I seen Yale I had to stop and say Hi. Enjoy.

    oooo Comps ... the PhD program in my department doesn't have comps as apart of the overall program and I'm somewhat thankful but the proposal defence was more 'intense' as a result .... so best of luck prepping/going through those. Also I really appreciate your vlogs overall! Also: I applied for another doctoral program in History in addition to post-PhD fellowships, am unsure if it's too much but am always here for learning ... I mention this because I appreciate this channel because my take aways include the confidence to apply for what make sense for you rather then the 'normal' pathway forward!!

    I’ve just applied to grad programs, using a lot of the tips from your videos, so I’m really excited/interested to see your journey through the comprehensive exams, because like you said, that’s an aspect of PhD programs that get explained in as much detail as other aspects. It’s definitely an aspect I’m nervous about if I do end up getting accepted by one of the programs I applied to.

    Awww, Moo in her little sweater is just precious! Question: Did you have to have foreign language proficiency for your program? This is the only thing I am legit concerned about while preparing for PhD applications. While I had French as an undergrad, it would probably take a good deal of review to be able to pass whatever proficiency requirements are necessary for my programs. Any advice? Also the Laboring Women book sounds fascinating, definitely adding that to my reading list!

    • @KaelynGraceApple
      @KaelynGraceApple  Před 2 lety

      It depends on the program and your subfield. For Yale US History PhD, you only needed one foreign language

  • @xxazxx6539
    @xxazxx6539 Před 2 lety +2

    I’m an international student and have been thinking about studying in the USA. However due to the prices I’m now kind of stressed, because it honestly seems impossible. I have heard about community colleges and was wondering if you, as a very educated woman, think starting off with CC is a good idea?

    • @KaelynGraceApple
      @KaelynGraceApple  Před 2 lety

      I started in community college so YES!!!

    • @lsh9151
      @lsh9151 Před 2 lety +5

      I am an international student, and have been for past 10 years. Community colleges are recommended for cheaper tuition and you can finish generals and get AA degree before you transfer to four-year colleges. However, I would recommend you looking into campus housing, rent around the community colleges if they do not offer campus housing, on-campus job opportunity, and other scholarship opportunities for international students! International students are not allowed to work off-campus, so only income you can really have while studying in the United States would be on campus. It is only allowed to work up to 20 hours and usually lower wage than what you would get from off-campus jobs, so make sure what the wage is and if you can afford the housing around community colleges if the school does not have on campus housing which a lot of community colleges do not.
      Community colleges also often lack resources for international students compared to four year colleges, simply because of the budget and lower number of international students. They will still provide immigration advising or English language support but it could have less staff or the office merged into admissions or advising offices, instead of having their own office with multiple staff supporting different challenges you might face. So another thing to consider!

    • @alexisreve1
      @alexisreve1 Před 2 lety +2

      Depending on the school, you might be able to apply for scholarships. But I honestly wouldn't recommend community college to an international student unless 1) you're absolutely determined to study in the US, 2) you have family in the US near the school you'd be attending and could live with them. You could get a bachelor's degree in almost any other country for the cost of an associate's degree in the US. But if your dream is to study in the US, it might be something to consider.
