Cascade Ski Traverse: Beware of the Killer Cornice

- We love a good day out in the backyard. Cascade mountain is one of my favorite mountains especially when it's covered with snow and rimmed with some of the largest cornices I've ever seen. I actually had to get on the radio twice while flying the drone to tell Christof he was hanging out over the abyss. It was hard to tell on the ridge where the cornice began and the mountain ended. It was a long, challenging day. For more Mediocre content follow me on Instagram @dannycbryson
This is the best outdoor channel on CZcams. Period. End of story! And, I've been watching for well over a decade. Someday you'll have to get to the San Juan's in SW Colo., look forward to that one.
Mr. Clem Wham Ridge or jagged mounain
I enjoyed the part where you see him repelling in ski gear but there's cars in the background and no snow to be seen
John Zahorian, this, MyOwnFrontier, and Mark Horrell in that order are the best outdoor channels I've ever came across here on the tubes
I live in Ouray and second the idea of making some content in the San Juans. Do a traverse of Electric, Arrow, Vestal, East, Middle, and West Trinity!
Such a cool video!!! Thank you for sharing!
I feel like Krystof likes to dress like an 80’s superhero on these adventures. Great videos.
You can always tell by the music when you've gotten yourselves into some sort of questionable shenanigans 😂 love it!
"Today we're going on a little local adventure"... Proceeds to show amazingly epic terrain and incredible 1-day adventure! I hope you guys appreciate how amazing your backyard is!
I live in the valley they were skiing over (could see my house a couple times), and this view NEVER gets old. I'm nowhere near as outdoorsy as they are, or technical, but I've done a few of the summits around the valley and it's hard to beat. 10 minute drive to incredible hiking, skiing, climbing, etc.
Your guys endurance and stamina are just mind boggling to me. I wish my body could handle that lol. Thank you for taking us on your adventure. Amazing
Train your body to handle it
this is like an old timey travelogue. When I was a kid back in the 60's, people would come and show home movies and narrate the trip for those who wanted to see what the world was like outside of their bubble. THis is taking me where I can't go. LOVE THIS CHANNEL!
Been binge watching this channel for a couple days. The editing is flawlessly executed. Cheers for risking your lives for my viewing pleasure.
I never tire of your fabulous antics.
Love the Mediocre Amateur channel. I love the humor, video quality, and that you guys are from my home range!
Love it! You guys are nuts and always find such interesting routes! Big time exposure with all those cornices and a late start!
Spectacular outdoor adventuring. Thanks for taking me along for the ride.
That was crazy! What a video! That looked so exhausting but at least you guys got to shred some crazy turns👍
Your trips are my goals!! Nice job capturing them too. I dig the shots and drone parts and vlogging! Well done!
A really under appreciated mountain, Cascade Mountain is awesome, love seeing you guys do it justice!
Great adventure. And, in your backyard. Enjoyed this video, thank you.
So glad to finally see a channel where the guys can actually ski!
Great stuff guys, hope you get turns all year! Way to keep it real and show the suffering. Skiing Saint Helens on Sunday!
Another great video- nice clean shots.
That was totally Awesome! Nice backyard adventure. Must have slept good that night!
Iv lost count now how many backpack christov has....
I love it...
Great video as always
That was one hell of a day! I'm always amazed at the footage you manage to get while self-filming in these circumstances. When I start getting real tired, taking time to set up nice shots is the first thing I give up! Like the new music tracks as well.
David Fantle not to mention operating the drone from time to time
Best video we have watched all day. Up to this point. The Doc would't go to work until he made sure you didn't get killed by a cornice like those two scouts at Table Rock. I did remind him that you HAD made this video, so....
super fan of your channel, so cool videos and adventures! kepp going. Hello from Italy 🇮🇹
You guys are incredible!
You guys are f-ing amazing. How does this channel only have 23K subscribers??
Nice snow! And great filming!
You can't cheat the mountain. The mountain has its ways. I tried to wear down the Rocky Mountains but after 50 years, I discovered that I didn't wear them down a bit. Be careful up there, Thanks for the awesome vids.
absolutely fantastic!!
Truly inspiring stuff guys, well done!
This looked amazingly rough but you make it look relatively easy. It was beautiful. I have never seen cornices like that.
Epic video as usual!
nice production quality! great adventure!
You guys are the BEST:)
You guys make awesome videos. Can’t believe you don’t have more subscribers
Great! I really like your Videos.
I'm greatly enjoying your ski decent videos...some of which I've skied also. I'm not able to do these adventures anymore but can relive them through your videos. One question I have for you is why don't you split your skis up when you put them on your pack? Bindings in the side strap of your pack area to keep the tails high enough so your calves don't bump them. Tips fastened together so the skis form a triangle. My ski buddies and I used this method for decades and found it to work well for us. (I'm not assuming you don't have your reasons) Thanks again gents for sharing your adventures on video!
Another great video boyz!
Great adventure guys
Great job! I did Cascade back in 80 and got trapped up there in a Fall snow storm. Dug a hole and covered myself in leaves to keep from freezing and hiked out the next day. Worse experience ever!
The descent down the waterfall looked brutal!!!
Jeez, the places you go. Wish I'd had a crew like that when I was younger.
Your videos make me want ski touring gear so bad. And a buddy of course to make a team. Great quality shots as always. A pleasure to watch. Thanks for taking us along.
Nice day out!
Yeah. Nothing sucks quite like post holing, donning gear, and removing gear constantly up a mountain. Gorgeous as always dudes!
Rite on , and totally inspiring. All that in boots for 11 hrs .
Fantastic!
Very good accent.made it down safely.beauiful skiing .you men are good.
Awsome video! Great work.
Where did you get the bottle holders on your shoulders? Those seems so practical!
You should do a spring skiing trip in mount nebo I wanna see you guys do that like into one of those big basins
Found you channel. Great stuff like the lighthearted fun. You should do seasonal "gear in use" vids..
You guys are bad ass!
That is fucking insane! Wow, what a video. You guys rock.
What do you use for the mapping function. I find the way your videos are laid out tells an excellent story and the Topo map visual really brings the distance and elevation to a visual level. I would appreciate any input so I can incorporate this into my editing process. You guys rock!
I'll give you and A+ for adventure!
Such beautiful places! Thanks for sharing these!
Do you have any videos explaining your gear and ski set up?
How do you like those movement skis?
Bravo!
So crazy in ski boots!!
Those cornices are as beautiful as they are deadly!
“There is nothing fun about booting”. Now you know how it was being a snowboarder before split boards were a thing. 😂
Awesome shot at 6:43
Holy crap the exit was sketchy!! If you forgot your rope you'd be calling for a rescue on this route!
please do some sunglasses review, they look out of this world!!!
You always seem to have really nice weather. Where is all the wind?
6:17, literally, I can actually see my house.
Oof, walking down those mossy rocks in ski boots looks miserable. Type 2 fun for sure. The skiing looked nice while it lasted though.
this is expedition type of skitour..👍👍💪💪
Great video...keep them coming.
What make was the black water bottle pouch on the red backpack
Cheers
It's a Dynafit water bottle holder. Camp makes a version we're fond of as well.
Nice!
Amazing! What an epic day, any chance you are selling some sweet logo-ed trucker hats?
For anyone else wondering where this was, it's just south of Salt Lake City, Utah.

You guys have inspired me to take on St. Helens later this spring. Nothing crazy, but I'm looking forward to it. Just gotta convince a few buddies to come along
It feels exciting hearing this dude say my name so many times lol
What did you anchor to on the first rappel? (before the plastic tubing part). Were you lucky there were some rap hangars in the backcountry cause I didn't see it in the video.
Small sling around a few branches of a tree cluster. Probably not suitable as a bombproof anchor for a real vertical cliff rappel, but we felt it was trustworthy enough for the section of waterfall we had to navigate.
Where is this?
Love the channel you guys are living the dream. What do you do for training besides all the trips? Stay safe out there.
Lucky for us there's a plethora of activities very accessible nearby. In the winter we probably get out for a half day ski-tour 3-4 times a week and try and do one bigger day per week in there somewhere. Trail-running anywhere from 5-15 mi. gets thrown in when not skiing as much. I like to do one ride on my Gravel/road bike every week kind of as a recovery day. Danny gets out and crushes it pretty much 6 days a week, which is why I'm usually suffering during our outings, and he's usually rethinking bringing me along.
@@cnuila thanks for the reply man. Im training to climb 6 pnw volcanoes this summer you guys have been my motivation.
Christof, why do you always seem to have a harness (straps around your thighs) on? Is there a technical component we don’t see? I have zero experience so maybe this is an obvious standard thing.
Your videos are the best! I'd be super curious to see a list of the gear you bring on a ski tour like this. Cheers
I can't speak for Danny, but this is the best OCD gear-junkie list I can come up of what I actually took that day. I used everything at least once except my boot crampons, avy gear, first-aid/repair kit, and I forgot about the delicious Slim Jim in my pack. Enjoy:

Where did you get the shoulder strap water bottle holder? Looks about perfect.
Connor Foster it’s a dynafit water bottle holder that I picked up from skimo.co. Camp makes one as well that we’re big fans of.
What's the song that starts at 6:15? It's in a lot of your videos and I absolutely love it.
Jk I found it, it's Slip by Geographer. Loooove this.
Dammit Christof you had one job to do!!!!
"This descent is BULLSHIT. On a level I can't even describe." -Danny descending Cascade during the PURL in 2017
What was up with that tubing? Super weird. Also that little cliff jump, could you see that from when you started that traverse or did it just work out? Rad day.
Irrigation for guerrilla weed
That runout? walkout? in ski boots looked absolutely heinous
So I've been considering moving to Utah ( I'm not from California so it's ok)
Should I? I like snow, and mountains, but heat and me are not exactly friends.... so Alaska, Northern WA or Idaho or Montana sounds interesting too...
You often don't say what state you're in, so it's hard to google the route!! Can you put it in the descriptions?
luh yuh
Fing amazing
Quite the challenging day! What was the date of this adventure?
Little over a week ago. 17 or 18 April maybe?
That seemed like it took forever.
Rad dudes
Nice. What state, region is this?
Central Wasatch Mountain Range, east of Provo, Utah
Thanks, Cristof- fantastic videos, keep em coming!
Great drone shots. What drone are you using?
Tips for anyone going into wilderness skiing. Get to know people who had done many years of it and survived. Find out how they survive. I went to take an avalanche course...... The instructor died, in an avalanche, the day before the course. Remember, the mountain never looses.
When the music in this video is the same as an ATP (Flight school) ad. The irony.
Mediocre! Hahaha . . . Well done guys!
lol i will not walk 20 feet off the snow in my ski boots. hahahahaha
Im relly digging those red pants
Awesome video! Where has Blake been? Miss him I’m the videos. Be safe
Probably died but they didn't post that video
@@benanderson4639 betttt
Do you guys bike much? That would make some good videos
I have a cyclocross bike, and Danny has an old mountain bike he's not crazy about. Someday maybe we'll get on the same page bike-wise and do something cool. I'd like to.
What is your choice of skins for this adventure?
iride aduck Danny is using the custom skin made for his Movement Skis, a 100% mohair skin manufactured by Colltex, which is always great for convenience, and I’m using the Pomoca Climb Pro S-Glide, a mohair/nylon mix and one of my favorite skins for just about anything.
@@cnuila picked up a pair of the Pomoca Climb Pro S-Glide skins today!
iride aduck I hope they make all your dreams come true!
