As someone who works with guinea pigs a lot, I will say don’t worry if your guinea pig doesn’t do everything on this list. It really varies depending on their temperament, age, history, and how they prefer to express themselves. For instance some pigs may not be very cuddly, or show affection through grooming. There’s tons of variety in their personalities and how they might choose to show their love.
They all have completely different personalities too I've had guinea pigs that make tons of noise, and also have one now that almost never makes a sound. And he actually trusts me too. Also not all of them wheek
I absolutely adore my piggles. They make awesome therapy pets. I rescued 4 after a cancer diagnosis an 2 horrible surgeries. I now have a very large herd an rehomed alot of rescues. These fur babies saved my life in so many different ways. My love for them keeps me going.

I got my daughter sister piggies and one I didn't know had a heart problem, she got into adult age, and then she had a stroke and my daughter was devastated 😓💔💯 we had to get another piggy for the other sister so she wouldn't get depressed
I was surprised that allowing you to pet them wasn't one of the reasons mentioned as to why your guinea pig loves and trusts you. One of the ultimate signs of love and affection is when they raise their chin to allow you to stroke them there.

Raising their head is NOT a sign they like it. It´s an instinct to say "get off" and they hold their head high to symbolize strength and to make their point. Educate yourself about guinea pigs please. Why would they love cuddles from you if they do not even cuddle among each other?

One small inaccuracy: the "purr" sound you show when you talk about them purring while being held is the angry purr. Happy purrs sound more like the purr of a cat than a churr. Also it's called sprawling? I call it the 'croissant pose' lol. One of my pigs lets me rub her belly when she's like that.
Technically, there IS the croissant position as "sprawling" but that term makes me think more of pancaking, which is truly a sign a piggie trust you if they go full pancake mode with eyes closed. Melts my heart each time I see mine do that.
My piggies only purr when there is a loud noise because they are scared! But they do all these things in the video, all i have to Do is walk past the room and they wheek and jump up the side bars for me! It's such a lovely feeling that they love us as much as we love them!
My very last guinea pigs lived until she was 9, she exhibited all these positive traits. I loved her very dearly. Miss her so very much, been over 20 years now.

Sadly they both passed away, one in July 2019 (Almost turned 6), and the other in January 2020 (nearly 6 and a half years old), and I recognized pretty much everything in this video from when I owned them. I've been trying to convince my parents to let me get guinea pigs again, I already know where I will put the cage, I calculated all the costs and have enough money, time and responsibility to take care of them. Unfortunately so far the answer has been no every time so if anyone has some tips lmk! :)

I have two of them and although they hate petting they're always jumping and they love to lay down, they also are really happy when I wash them every 2 months or so (they're both white and weren't washed with their old owner)
I’m glad my Guinea pig feels safe around me I just got her recently from my partner because the younger kids in the home would abuse her I thought she was just introverted when she used to live at their house but she’s been really friendly and loves cuddling up next to me before she falls asleep it’s really surprising how her personality had changed so quickly she used to hide in the corner of her old cage at my boyfriends house and now she’s always jumping around and giving kisses to my family members. I’m glad that my siblings are much more gentle towards her when interacting she’s been a very important part of our lives since I got her and my siblings are being more responsible and calm now I really love my siblings even though I won’t admit it in front of them but their very gentle towards my Guinea pig and their very sweet children I’m really happy seeing them trying to become more responsible :D
My piggies go crazy when they hear me in the kitchen. They recognize the sound of the refrigerator opening, it’s so cute. There wheeking often sounds like babies.
My Peppa likes to nibble people, especially if that person has just handled some food. Except her idea of "nibbling" is to brush her top teeth against your fingers...She's such a sweetheart 💕
I had two guinea pigs growing up and they loved just cuddling into my neck while I would watch TV. Lol, I couldn't hear the TV over the purring, not that I minded. Guinea pigs are such sweet little creatures. ❤
I have owned guinea pigs exclusively as pets for over 17 years, and have yet to meet a piggie that likes to cuddle. My girls will at most lay near one another, generally with a castle separating them, but whenever they're in the same one it's squeaking and stress until someone leaves. And to the cuddling on a lap, I suffer from a unique hip injury that I cannot sit still or my joint locks up, so I cannot sit still enough to ever had a pig want to cuddle with me. Of course I see them love to cuddle with my ex-gfs, but they had built-in pillows and never really trusted them when I'd need to be nearby or they'd get upset.
It's good to know my piggies didn't hate me, they didn't like being held unless they are in open spaces but they would always try climb on me if I sat down and just watched them. They would always get excited and wheek when they just hear my footsteps, I'm assuming that's because they usually get food and pats when I get close
I know I have a guinea pig and its always coming to the door on my bed room and I know my guinea pig is happy to see me ❤ and I make my guinea pig healthy

When I was 12 I have my first ever guinea pig she was so sweet ,she always like to lay on my stomach and sleep,she whistles when I came.home from school but eventually she became sick I took care of her gave her some home remedies that could possibly work but eventually it didn't work .this day came when my brother was holding my guinea pig but when he gave my pet guinea pig to me she immediately froze and had her last whistle.she passed away on my hands :(((( I miss her sm but now I have 6 guinea pigs now
My guinea pig chatters her teeth at me, and the cure is a hand-fed treat. I feel that, in a safe environment, anger is a privilege for these prey creatures. Of course, I could be wrong. The sound the of the fridge opening alerts her, and she knows where the raw veggies come from.
My guineas are pepper(male) n cinnamon (female). Both sleep in my blanket or even on me . Cinnamon loves to keep her head on my thumb while pepper will let me touch him n even sing songs to him . Love them
I rescued 2 and i hope they are happy. Both was bullied by their brothers. I was cautious of getting initially 5/6 years isnt enough 😞 my guinea weakes all the time and i thought he was annoyed. Most recently he likes to crawl and relax on a pillow i sit on.❤
My guinea pig is antisocial just like me so we just don't bother each other, that's our relationship lol, she also pretty gluttonous, she is legit me as a guinea pig, she let's me hand feed her because food and doesn't like being held but when I'm holding her she like "welp, nothing I can do"
Purring isn't a sign of happiness. When you pet it and it purrs, then it means that it thinks you're mounting it for dominance. When there is a loud sound and they purr for half a second, then it means that this sound felt threatening to them. And then there is the low grumbling purr when it approaches another guinea pig. Then it's either a sign of dominance or flirting.
My 3 Guinea girls will nudge my game controller out of my hand when I’m holding them and as soon as they do it’s basically “pay attention to me!” And I’ll start petting whoever’s doing it until they calm down a little bit. Especially my little Patches. Little miss attention hog. At least til Nutmeg and Chestnut get jealous😆

My pigs usually don't come to me when I say their name so I've been teaching them to come to me when I softly make a tapping sound on a hard surface.
They don't recognize names. But they associate the sound.
Mine know that my keys jingling means I'm home and that a packet rustling means food

I have two of them and although they hate petting they're always jumping and they love to lay down, they also are really happy when I wash them every 2 months or so (they're both white and weren't washed with their old owner)

I just got her recently from my partner because the younger kids in the home would abuse her I thought she was just introverted when she used to live at their house but she’s been really friendly and loves cuddling up next to me before she falls asleep it’s really surprising how her personality had changed so quickly she used to hide in the corner of her old cage at my boyfriends house and now she’s always jumping around and giving kisses to my family members. I’m glad that my siblings are much more gentle towards her when interacting she’s been a very important part of our lives since I got her and my siblings are being more responsible and calm now I really love my siblings even though I won’t admit it in front of them but their very gentle towards my Guinea pig and their very sweet children I’m really happy seeing them trying to become more responsible :D

My piggies go crazy when they hear me in the kitchen. They recognize the sound of the refrigerator opening, it’s so cute. There wheeking often sounds like babies.
My Peppa likes to nibble people, especially if that person has just handled some food. Except her idea of "nibbling" is to brush her top teeth against your fingers...She's such a sweetheart 💕

I had two guinea pigs growing up and they loved just cuddling into my neck while I would watch TV. Lol, I couldn't hear the TV over the purring, not that I minded. Guinea pigs are such sweet little creatures. ❤

I have owned guinea pigs exclusively as pets for over 17 years, and have yet to meet a piggie that likes to cuddle. My girls will at most lay near one another, generally with a castle separating them, but whenever they're in the same one it's squeaking and stress until someone leaves. And to the cuddling on a lap, I suffer from a unique hip injury that I cannot sit still or my joint locks up, so I cannot sit still enough to ever had a pig want to cuddle with me. Of course I see them love to cuddle with my ex-gfs, but they had built-in pillows and never really trusted them when I'd need to be nearby or they'd get upset.
It's good to know my piggies didn't hate me, they didn't like being held unless they are in open spaces but they would always try climb on me if I sat down and just watched them. They would always get excited and wheek when they just hear my footsteps, I'm assuming that's because they usually get food and pats when I get close

Guinea pigs are awesome and they are really commutative to their owners. By recognizing their habits you’ll be able to save them when they are feeling sick.

Husband brought me a guinea pig yesterday. She did not run from me and was purring when I held her. She almost fell asleep. But shes still warming up to me. Waiting patiently on her to let me fed her and come to me.

The same thing happened to mine! Two years ago! He had bells passed, and he could never recover! He died in my arms a month later! I still cry when I think about him! He was like a human to me! He was so smart and funny! I'm sorry for your loss! It's like losing a Best friend!
@FaZe rift YT my piggy passed away while I was away at work, I came home to find it has died. The other piggy I had wouldn’t eat for a couple of days since and died 3 weeks later.....

When I was 12 I have my first ever guinea pig she was so sweet ,she always like to lay on my stomach and sleep,she whistles when I came.home from school but eventually she became sick I took care of her gave her some home remedies that could possibly work but eventually it didn't work .this day came when my brother was holding my guinea pig but when he gave my pet guinea pig to me she immediately froze and had her last whistle.she passed away on my hands :(((( I miss her sm but now I have 6 guinea pigs now

My guineas are pepper(male) n cinnamon (female). Both sleep in my blanket or even on me . Cinnamon loves to keep her head on my thumb while pepper will let me touch him n even sing songs to him . Love them

I rescued 2 and i hope they are happy. Both was bullied by their brothers. I was cautious of getting initially 5/6 years isnt enough 😞 my guinea weakes all the time and i thought he was annoyed. Most recently he likes to crawl and relax on a pillow i sit on.❤

My guinea pig is antisocial just like me so we just don't bother each other, that's our relationship lol, she also pretty gluttonous, she is legit me as a guinea pig, she let's me hand feed her because food and doesn't like being held but when I'm holding her she like "welp, nothing I can do"

Purring isn't a sign of happiness. When you pet it and it purrs, then it means that it thinks you're mounting it for dominance.
When there is a loud sound and they purr for half a second, then it means that this sound felt threatening to them.
And then there is the low grumbling purr when it approaches another guinea pig. Then it's either a sign of dominance or flirting.

My 3 Guinea girls will nudge my game controller out of my hand when I’m holding them and as soon as they do it’s basically “pay attention to me!” And I’ll start petting whoever’s doing it until they calm down a little bit. Especially my little Patches. Little miss attention hog. At least til Nutmeg and Chestnut get jealous😆
