Sinéad is 19 here, pregnant and her abusive mother had just died. Rather than hide from all of these edges (youth, pregnancy, abuse, death) she rides the edges of humanity like a skilled surfer on a wave. F*#k your renaissance man, she’s truly a natural wonder. She used to get a lot of crap from repressed 20th century society... but of course people react negatively to somebody who is trying to wake us up from sleepwalking through life!
I saw her on this tour in Berkeley, California, and it was a truly organic experience. It was just her on a stage, with that great, big voice, vulnerable and awkward, yet mesmerizing. What a talent she is!
She paved the way for artists such as Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple, Jewel, and even Alanis Morissette. Her originality was her selling point. Nothing compares to her.
I’ve been listening to her literally non-stop since she passed away and I could kick myself for not keeping up with her over the years. I was obsessed with her in the early 90s, but I lost track of her and am sad that I’m just now coming back. I have read nothing but positive and loving comments about her since she died. I pray that she new that people really DID love her. She felt unloved up until the end. I can’t stop crying.

This performance was my first introduction to Sinead. I was 13 and it was love at first note and... sight. She took my breath away and forgot to give it back.
For those of us who know & love this song, we know what's supposed to happen at 3:35. It still doesn't make it any less awe-inspiring that it actually does happen tho. Sinead delivers those high clear torrid notes perfectly, brimming with the subtlety & mixed emotions that are her calling card. I shake my head in wonder, & say a little prayer of thanks to the great spirit: I lived my young turbulent girl years at the same time Sinead lived hers, & she's one of the keys to my survival.

Lion and the Cobra is back in my album rotation after 30 years. It’s fun listening to this masterpiece album with more mature ears and finding that you were spot on for loving this way back then. The power and range of her voice and the ease in which she did it remains unmatched. She was an incredibly beautiful girl as well... the symmetry and bone structure in her face was that of a supermodel. Truly a gifted artist that deservedly shot to superstardom quickly. Unfortunately her career was cut short because her political and social opinions were too advanced for the average person to grasp. After it turned out she was 100% accurate about the Catholic Church and the coverup of the abuse and rape of children, the world owed her a HUGE apology and she never got it, even to this day.

I vividly remember the first time I was exposed to her music. I,an angsty teenager as most if not all of them are,hanging out at a friends place in the summer of '87. Watching a canadian music program (Good Rockin' Tonight) and Sinead O'Connor-Troy came on...well..I can admit in my 13 yr old ignorance I didn't understand the phenomenon on the screen,possibly even dismissed it as "too weird for me"...but now,jeezus. It's arguably the best debut album of all time,cuts so deep in so many places,brilliantly written,the pathos and conviction etc etc.

I do lose and adore Sinead ' but the album version of this song is the ultimate version. A true masterpiece! In fact, the album version of Just Like You Said It Would Be is the most underrated song of the history of pop and mankind in general!
I mean, I think that this live performance was pretty damned spot on, so I don't think I agree. The only thing I missed from the studio version was the beautiful harmony on the 1st "mama".
The audience's reaction throughout this song saddens me. This is my all time favorite Sinead song, and she just belted her heart out, and no on in the audience (at least that I could see) emoted in anyway. Except for the obligatory clap at the end. Sinead, if I was there, I would have been front row rocking out with you on this musical experience you shared with the world. RIP lovely lady.

Amazing. This performance is as much poetry as music, and the poetry is from a deep core that rattles and racks Sinead's body. The beat and the arrangement are perfect.
