  • In this video I want to compare the Laowa 100mmf2.8 2x Macro with the 65mmf2.8 2x Macro and also talk a bit about the very special 25mmf2.8 Ultra Macro.
    .
    Laowa really gave me a free shirt and borrowed me the lens to test for several weeks, so that might be considered as advertising, but I don't say anything I don't mean ;)

    For the 65mm, does the Raynox have too many downsides for the little amount of additional magnification it provides? I was toying with the idea of getting a pair of tubes or a Raynox for my 65mm, but not too sure if it'd be worth it.

    Omg ur like the only person on youtube who has compared the 100mm and 65mm, ive been looking everywhere for the comparisons, but no1 has done one. I would like to see some live image samples taken side by side with the full frame 100mm and apsc 65mm and see if there is any difference in sharpness and DoF. Do u think u can make another video using both full frame and apsc side by side to compare the 2 lens?

      thanks for your feedback! I don't have the 65mm lens anymore. but maybe I'll make a little comparison with the 100mm on fullframe and apsc.

    I have the older 60mm and the new 100mm Laowa's. Both are great lenses. If Fuji release the X-H2 with a 40mp + I will have to get that 65mm for it.

  • @WaheedAkhtarWahid

    Also, 65mm on APSC is anyways 100mm FF equivalent. So my take will be if you have APSC, go for 65mm if you have FF, go with 100mm. If weight is an issue, 85mm f5.6 is recommended.

    Nice video. Thanks. I recently bought the 65 mm. On another CZcams video, I saw that the lens hood was metal. The one I got from Laowa was plastic (which is ok) but it does not fit properly. It is impossible to screw onto the lens with normal finger pressure. What is your experience?

    • @1610russell
      @1610russell Před 10 měsíci +1

      I have also just got the 65mm, and mine has a metal lens hood. It is very tight indeed if the red dot is not lined up it is impossible to put on. if it is lined up first push in then twist.

    How have you adapted the Raynox DCR-250 onto the laowa 100mm? Is it a 49mm to 67mm step down ring?

    • @Macroflodzl
      @Macroflodzl  Před 3 lety +1

      67mm to 43mm (not 49mm) stepdown rings exist, but they are very rare.with a bit luck you can find one on eBay. I didn't find one back in the days, so I'm using two. 67 to 62 and 62 to 43.

    Is the 100mm ok on A6XX without IBIS? I'm a bit concerned. Would using flash allow higher shutter speeds so there's no need for in-body stab?

    • @Macroflodzl
      @Macroflodzl  Před 2 lety

      I never use the IBIS, as it has no real benefit when working with flash. I need to see every little movement I do, so the IBIS doesn't help with that.

    • @Macroflodzl
      @Macroflodzl  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks for your feedback. The pros and cons don't really depend on the added Raynox in most points. Besides from the more magnification with the Raynox, the other points would be the same.

    grundsätzlich wär ich wegen preis und gewicht gleich bei der 65mm aber ich hab ne vollformat und es fühlt sich komisch an dann bewusst ne apsc draufzuschrauben und es ist ja auch nicht grad der halbe preis, schwere entscheidung jetzt, ich mein mir ist das label vollformat oder apsc wurst solange das endergebnis scharfe bilder liefert

    • @Macroflodzl
      @Macroflodzl  Před 2 lety

      hi,geht ja nicht um Gefühle oder "Labels". Wenn du ein apsc Objektiv an ne Vollformat Kamera machst, dann hast du halt ne starke Vignette, also dunkle Bildecken, da das Objektiv nicht den vollen Bildkreis abdeckt. Allerdings gibts jetzt ein neues 85mmf5.6 vollformattaugliches Makro von Laowa.

      @@juliel7522 Hi Juliel7522, I didn't buy any because I was unsure with Laowa. I had a bad experience with Laowa. But I have some others...the Sigma 105mm macro with a fantastic quality, very sharp. I love macro, so I also tried a cheaper one... it's the 7artisans 60mm, and I could'nt believe it, but the quality is very good. It is a macro manual focus lens. I recently bought a 5:1 macro lens, the AstrHori. I'm experimenting with it at the moment ☺️☺️.

    The 65mm is a 2x lens. But on a crop sensor, isn’t it somewhat like having a 3x on full-frame?

    • @Macroflodzl
      @Macroflodzl  Před 2 lety

      If we talk about equivalents, you are right. But I don't really like that. 2:1 means that your subject gets on your sensor two times bigger than life-size and that doesn't depend on the sensor size, it just looks different on different sensor sizes.

    • @swagonman
      @swagonman Před 2 lety +1

      @@Macroflodzl “…it just looks different on different sensor sizes.” Yes, that’s the point of equivalence. On APS, the 65/2.8 2x looks the same as full-frame 100/4 3x. In Macro, we tend to stop down the aperture, so the 2.8 vs 4 is not such a huge deal. And in post, we can all crop for further enlargement, so it comes down to sensor pixel density and lens sharpness. Per the MTF data on opticallimits.com, the 65/2.8 is fantastically sharp. I haven’t looked at the 100/2.8 data. Unfortunately, my APS sensor is older and only 16Mp. I’d like to upgrade to 26Mp soon to take more advantage of the Laowa 65’s capability.

    • @swagonman
      @swagonman Před 2 lety

      I just checked opticallimits.com, and the Laowa 100/2.8 2x also has fantastically sharp MTF. The graph is in line pairs per sensor height, and not per mm. So if you’re going to crop in to a 3x APS macro equivalent, you have to multiply the MTF by 0.67. Anyway, I don’t think anyone can go wrong with either of these two lenses.

      @@Macroflodzl mh yes, but i dont understand why you give the 65mm APS-C lenses a general downside for having less apterture blades (all versions have 9), when mostly all (6) versions of the 100mm (there are 7: EF, RF, F, E,Z,L,K) have the same or less amount of apertures blades. The sony version is a exception and therfore not suitable for a general conclusion in a comparison.
