There is a lady of Holmes Rd in south KC that sees BBQ out of her driveway and only on Friday and Saturday and it sells out quick. She beats everyone else out of the water. But yeah KC was where cattle was sent back in the day straight from Texas so it makes sense we got good BBQ.

Central Texas BBQ uses varieties of Oak and Pecan wood for smoke for the most part.
Mesquite is also used a lot here in Central tx
Post Oak > Applewood
Pecan is def a hit in 254 area code
The truth from someone who's spent a whole bunch of time in KC....there is no 'bad' BBQ in KC, just different levels of good. Now I'm hungry.

Maybe not anymore but Arthur Bryants at the Legends was straight garbage. I hear the original downtown is great. I gave the legends location 3 chances and it was just bad every time.
@@Chameleon8474 I've been to the original location a couple times over the years while traveling and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I fear Arthur Bryant's is starting to behave like many companies who are beginning to exist in name only.

Because of this video, my friend and I just drove 2 hours from Fort Riley, KS to try it… I can honestly say, being from Texas, this is hands down the best BBQ I’ve ever had. The fat literally melts like butter, the burnt ends are to die for, the twice baked potato salad and the Mac and cheese are incredible. Just 10/10 highly recommend!

Funnily enough, the onion is one of the most unhealthy things on that plate. Second only to the corn/other veggies/sauces. Red meat is the healthiest thing a human can eat.

@@sb2h Interested to see a source on that. As far as I know, red meat is fine in moderation, but other foods are great for you as well, and many of them are “better” in the sense that they give you important nutrients that red meat doesn’t. Curious as to what you think is so bad about vegetables.

I've got to get in here on this one. I grew up in Dallas(12yr) and have lived in KC now for 25. I'm kansas citian, emphasis on Kansas. In any event, i have friends, I go to Texas. Last 2 times I went down there we hit Franklin's and Opies. There isn't a bbq here in KC that you can make a case for being definitively better than the good TX places. You just can't. I try hard. The brisket is just too good down there. I think we've become too comfortable being the BBQ capital of the world(KC), and we've been caught slippin. I had Texan buddies in town last month and they all agreed jack stack brought the A game, but that was the first time in a while I felt like I got something here that could compare to my last 2 trips down south. KC, keep working hard. We need the crown!

I really liked Q39! I travel through Kansas City every couple of months, not usually around dinner or lunch time, and they were the only one open at the time I went last. It was great!

You need to try Sugar Fire in St Louis or Smoking Barrels…my two favorites. Sugar Fire has won global awards and I think was featured on a few tv food shows.

Harp and chef j seem to be where its at now (I havent been to the new spots yet). But for some classic spots Joes Slaps and Q39 are always great.

Slaps, Q39, Joes KC, Jack Stacks, and Tin Kitchen are all exceptional here in KC. So I have to argue with your assertion of them being the best, because there really is no bad barbecue here in Kansas City, it is all phenomenal.
There is great BBQ all over Kansas City, if you like apple wood try BB'Lawnside BBQ , they have great BBQ and the sauce has apple also, the hot BBQ sauce is wonderful , Q'S has great brisket and fries, The Mixed Plate at Gate's is great, the ribs are good, Rosedale s has great food, they do it all, my suggestion is to eat your way through Kansas City, some good Tex-Mex too

I'm from KC, so I know a few places around here. If you ever come visit, 3 best BBQ restaurants to try are KC Joe's, Jack Stack BBQ, and Arthur Bryant's. Arthur Bryant's is also the restaurant that literally invented burnt ends
