this is insanely impressive to me. I love camping, any time of year, but i didnt realize there is a whole sub segment of humanity that does this as a challenge essentially, and you really handled it so well. On top of that.. i have to LOOK for places that drop to the temps that you're camping in, because it doesnt usually get that cold in my area. I think you are amazing, and i would love to see more of this.

Congratulations on your first solo! The first one is the hardest to get through but it builds the confidence for more! Looks like you made a beautiful right handed spoon. My first spoon carving i brought home and sanded then boiled down some chaga for 2 hours and it acts as a wood stain.
Go Erin go! Gotta love carving while out on trip, it becomes a physical reminder of the good times

From a fellow solo female camper to another: Erin, you are my most favorite female counterpart of all the CZcamsrs I watch. I love that you aren't afraid to get out there and chop the wood and build the igloos and haul your own stuff.
Love that you made a right-handed spoon (cause I'm right-handed lol) and congrats on your first solo winter. You and Jon are both a big inspiration for Sabrina and I. For two years I've been trying to talk her into doing solo trips and she's said "absolutely not" and when you did your bucket list first time solo I was like "look, see you can do it" then she saw the Go-Pro bloopers and was like "not a chance, if Erin is having problems I definitely couldn't do it". Then we watched this one and I poked at her again about going out solo and she said maybe and thats a huge step. So thank you for all you guys do. You both really do make a difference in this community and have taught us (and I'm sure a lot of others) quite a bit along the way and not just about camping. Thank you for sharing!

I believe these kind of activities are good for the soul if you allow it to be. The way the world is going people are losing touch camping is fairly simple if planed out. What you did is not earth shattering, but it is absolutely 110% inspiring!!! Everyone thinks, “Well, that looks easy”, but until they experience it, they do not know how difficult it is to ‘simply’ survive through the nigh in the conditions you were in. I have been watching Lost Lakes for a long time and always knew you were pretty bad ass when it came to toughen it. There is a big difference between toughen it with 2 people and doing it alone! Great job and I hope you and John keep making videos together!

I'm still looking for my tribe. Most of my friends could care less about my solo camping trips and cerainly my winter camping. I so love being in the forest as I am up in years am sadden by the fact that those days are limited...possibly. Thanks for taking us along. I use a tent and am able to drive to my favorite spots off 2 tracks. other than snowmobiles, I am alone. The sounds of nature enveloping me.

Damascus steel is high carbon, so put a little dab of veggie oil of butter along the blade when you're not using it, to protect the cutting edge from rust. A good knife should last a lifetime. And it's much better than Jon's too :)
awesome and thanks. this brought back memories of trips primitive tenting with my daughters. my oldest continues whitling, hard to believe she is now a professor, seize the moments, they go by too fast. so looking forward to the next lost lake adventure.
