Being the recipient (I hate the word 'victim') of racism isn't about your color, it's about being an "other". When I hang out with Black people, I'm frequently taken to be a light-skinned Black person by those who don't know me. When I hang out with Armenians, I'm welcomed as a long-lost brother Armenian. Many people look at me and think I'm Latino or Native American. Pretty much the only thing I'm NOT classified as a 'white' guy. The racists don't really care what I am, as long as I'm not them.

The intricacies and complexity involved make this issue something that can’t be resolved by creating chaos and destruction. My personal views are very aligned with yours it seems. I support the right of the people of Gaza and the West Bank to live free and peacefully. I also support the Israeli people to defend themselves against the terrorists of Hamas who are ultimately responsible for all the atrocities. They knew exactly how Israel would respond and they went along with it anyway. One concern while organizing was how to exclude extremist groups that would try to hijack our event. @@cmathews5909 What do you mean by support? Israel has never financed nor armed Hamas.
In a region, the middle east, Muslims are 90% of the population and Jews are about 2%. Even in Israel 25% of the population is Muslim, or non Jewish.
Only 74% of Israel is Jewish.
So, when you have a host of Muslims across the region, vying for the annihilation of Israel and the Jewish people, and your most recent enemy in Palestine is the government of Abbas, and there is a new group, Hamas, and you do not yet know that once they have power they will be even worse than Abbas regarding threat to your existence, then, yes, you may vie for the chance of peace with a new government, thinking you have not been able to reach peace with Abbas, the Palestinian government prior to Hamas, then you give it a shot. To see if you have a better chance at peace with the new government. But that was not to be. As Hamas is even more violent and hate filled than Abbas.
But again, Israel never financed nor armed Hamas. However, it has been stated recently that Netanyahu's government, has given money to Hamas, as a form of bribe for peace. That is yet to be proven 100%. Essentially if it is found to be true, it was Netanyahu and his people who did that. And they will suffer the consequences. Again, having 2% of a population compared to 90% may make you think that bribing Hamas will benefit you. But it has proven that you should never give anything to any terrorist organization.

It's hard to get your point through without such behavior by students but at times vandalism and violence occurs which should be lawfully addressed. What education are they getting when so much is going on in the world. Some Students have decided this is important to them. We ourselves shrug at all the suffering going on in the world as long as we and our loved ones are safe. Some Students can become impassioned due to the ideals they hold about the world. We should respect them and not insult their intelligence by telling them they are ignorant or should find a better way to make their point known. During the Jim Crow years in America, Apartheid in South Africa and other struggles people often risked their education, limbs and life to protest while they were ignored or suppressed by the powers that be most of the time. And I am sure Joe's parents didn't decide to become Republicans just because students protested the Vietnam war in a violent manner. When was the last time that a quiet, peaceful protest did ANY good or made any difference in foreign policy?
Who notices or cares about a peaceful protest of people in a park or along the side of a road, where the people are just holding signs and chanting slogans?
Those kind of protesters are smiled at, laughed at, and then ignored, and they make no impact on their efforts to stop injustices!
When writing letters, making phone calls, and trying to make their protests be noticed don't make even a little difference in a topic that they believe in, what else are they supposed to do to have anyone listen to them or actually MAKE AN IMPACT?
We are told that, if we are unhappy with what our government is doing, then we should vote them out of office, but in a system where gerrymandering and voter suppression are blatantly being implemented across the country, and with one side willing to cheat and resort to insurrection in order to seize power & control our country, we feel like we are backed into a corner without a voice, and our REPRESENTATIVES are being replaced by RULERS who don't care about the citizens, but only want control and obedience!
Instead of attacking these protesters and saying how awful and stupid they are, why don't you come up with a VIABLE alternative where they can voice their dissatisfaction and actually be heard and listened to, because their goal is to make a difference and STOP A GENOCIDE and a decades-long oppression of an ethnic group!
At least the protesters are doing SOMETHING about the inhumane atrocities that our country has turned a blind eye to over the last 76 years, while Israel has controlled and victimized a nation in an attempt to drive them from their own land! They've been forced to choose between living in an open-air prison with substandard living conditions, or fleeing their country that they have lived in for centuries! They have lost their many of their freedoms, and have had more and more of their country unjustly stolen, seized by Israel and turned into "Settlements" for Israelis who had no right to the land! And the Palestinians are ruled by terrorists, Hamas, who don't care whether they live or die!
But we, as Americans, are supposed to sit quietly and watch as one of our "allies" commits war crimes & genocide against people who have no say in this war between Israel and Hamas! We are tired of our country backing Israel, no matter what atrocities they commit, because it's beneficial to AMERICA in the game of international dominance to have an "ally" in a volatile region!

Not so sure of that last comment...a 'good hubby'.
He did 'it' for show...and he interrupts or talks over her, too much!
Try to think how that feels if the tables were turned...but thinking like the man in much of our world-wide viewpoint, not a second thought.
That's the way it's supposed to be.
How can we see 'equal', when we can't see equal worth in that way?

@nancymarquis3943 Yeah, I watch every day from afar, and it's called Morning Joe, not Mika, and I am an Alabama native. Born in Mississippi.
Talking over Mika doesn't mean trouble in their marriage, and quite honestly it's none of my business.

I said fifteen years or so ago, that when Israel commits war crimes they should be held accountable as any other State would be.
That didn't happen. Netanyahu actually scoffed on camera at the notion of Israelis being held accountable as if they held some special status that exempts them. Well, this is the result of Netanyahu's draconian abuses and his incredible attempts to tear down the Israeli Court system to save himself from criminal prosecution as the rest of the Western nations looked the other way.
Mature men such as myself see the cycles at work here. In the 1960's, young people protested the Vietnam War because it's the sort of thing that young people do. The issues change and the actors on the world stage change but the basic play remains the same. One doesn't have to be a Einstein with a crystal ball to see this coming after all the reports from the occupied territories being ignored for years. A creditable declaration of apartied conditions had been made about the plight of the Gazans and finally, a point of critical mass has been reached and it would not have happened if the right thing had been done some years ago.
Same with the Russia /Ukraine war. Enough time has passed since the end of WWII that people have forgotten the history, so, it starts all over again.

Very well said. So many Americans don't remember, or they don't know, about our history, so they are shocked when a protest like this happens. They have become complacent because they have never lived in a country without freedom or democracy, as flawed as ours is!

Meanwhile in Montreal there is a peaceful encampment at McGill University that hardly affects anyone because school is over. They are not vandalising anything.

I wish they would show more of the horrible stuff that the IDF is actually doing to people and families, but there must be some kind of gag order on reporting such things.

I remember when we stuffed pansies into their gun muzzles (is that the correct term?) the cops tried not to laugh and tried to look stern and not catch our eyes.
