    Today we are testing and reviewing the Simder SD 4050 Pro. This is a 10 in 1 multi process welder and plasma cutter. The versatility of this multiprocess welding machine is really amazing. You can tackle any project any where with this small light weight machine. I was really impressed with all of the functions that the Simder 4050 Pro has to offer. In this video I TIG weld, stick weld, mig weld, and use the built in plasma cutter to cut steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.

    Probably the best review of this welder on CZcams. Thanks for your time and efforts....very informational.
    Now I have a few questions if you don't mind. I've contacted you before on this, but will try again since the company still insists we can use flux core wire to mig weld with only and air source, no gas.
    I received my welder today, 2/25/2023, and I never welded before. I notice in one porton of this review of yours you said you needed gas to mig weld, but I contacted the company and they said you can use your air compressor also. Hopefully that is true.
    Second, I don't have a real "shop" set up like a lot of guys, so we only have 120V 20 amp breaker on the capped garage outlets where I would be using this, if I keep it. Can I get by with that, or would I have to go through the trouble of putting in new wire, breaker, outlet etc? Hopefully not. It's about a 45 yard reach from the breaker panel to the garage area in our lower level. I definitely wouldn't be using it for long periods of time I doubt, and probably lnot a lot in general.
    I understand you probably are not an electrician but figure your experience will be able to guide me in the right direction.
    If I did have to put in a new breaker, wire and outlet, what would be suggested? I'm assuming a 220V line with a 30 or 35 amp breaker and outlet? Hopefully you can answer this. I have checked online everywhere to find out what set up to use and can't find a decent answer. Even the company isn't sure from what I've expericed so far. Asked them and the guy replying says he's not an electrician and he would ask his "experts", but still haven't heard anything. Kind of frustrating.
    Anyway, your help would be appreciated.
    Thanks a lot.
    Craig

      You can flux core (FCAW) with no gas and no air. It’s essentially MIG welding without out gas.
      To MIG you will need a shielding gas either CO2 or Argon/CO2. MIG uses a solid wire and flux core isn’t solid and is coated in its own shielding flux.
      As for the power 220 volts will always be better but with a 20 amp breaker on 110 you should be good!

    Great informational video. Thanks.
    I never welded before and ordered one of these. Hopefully coming in March.
    I noticed watching the video you said there is a "gas" hookup. Do I have to have gas to mig weld with this machine? Never knew that. Was hoping I could use my air compressor. Guess I should do some studying...LOL.
    Thanks again.
    Craig

    • @BuiltForDirt
      @BuiltForDirt  Před rokem

      You will need shielding gas for mig welding. Most people use CO2 or a CO2 and Argon mix.
      You use the same port for the air compressor when plasma cutting.
      I always say the best investment you can make is in yourself and picking up a welding machine and learning a new skill is so much fun and very rewarding.

    Thanks for these reviews! I saw your yeswelder reviews and they've been on serious discount on Amazon - it would cost about $650 for the Pro and DS cutter at this point...but I'm curious about your hands on experience with those compared to this SSimder. And if you'd have any comments on functionality of having two different units vs the all in one. Thanks again!

      The operation and setup on both welders is very similar. The only benefit to having multiple machines is you don’t have to swap anything over from one process to the other.
      Having the capability to MIG, Stick, TIG, and plasma cut in one small machine and it’s dual voltage is very convenient. It’s an impressive small machine!

    Appreciate the video. I am brand new to welding and I have one of these machines on the way hopefully soon. Just waiting for it to ship. One thing that I find a bit challenging is the manual seems to be extremely lacking important information. Especially for a newb like me. Of all of the welds you did in this video here which ones did you use gas?
    What would be your recommendation on how to learn about each type of welding this machine can do? I'm going to poke around your channel to see if you have some "how to's" and subscribe of course :)
    I have a 3lb air compressor for cutting. What gas should I pick up if any at all? I don't plan on welding a ton but more for hobby and projects here and there. I'm a tinkerer kind of dude.
    Lastly, my first project, I am going to be welding some 1/4" 4x6 little pieces of steel to the bottom of my Casita trailer for scissor jacks. What weld process would you recommend for this?
    I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. It was extremely helpful.

    • @BuiltForDirt
      @BuiltForDirt  Před rokem +1

      As far as learning goes there are tons of great how to videos on CZcams already.
      I would definitely recommend getting a 100% CO2 bottle to start for MIG welding. It’s the easiest to use and will be perfect for your trailer project.
      After you get better switch to a 75/25 argon/co2 mix but to start just CO2 is cheaper.
      Start with MIG first it’s the easiest but very versatile and probably the most used process. Then play with stick welding with some different rods and then once you feel confident with both those then try the TIG if your feeling up for the challenge. You will need 100% argon for the TIG

      @@BuiltForDirt Thank you. Can't say that enough. Thank you.
      So I rented a gas less MIG welder from HD to do a repair on my gate. Didn't go well. I also didn't clean up the metal/steel at all, most likely most of my problems. So MIG and with gas is the ticket. Are there different sizes of gas cylinders to get for welding? What would you recommend for a hobbyist that might not be using it much?

    • @BuiltForDirt
      @BuiltForDirt  Před rokem +1

      Yes they have 80CF tanks which are about 3’ tall. They hold a decent amount and are easy enough to move if you don’t have a rolling cart for your machine. They have smaller sizes but I wouldn’t go smaller than that or you will be filling quite often.

    A couple of thoughts.... first question is how the heck did you get one since they aren't even in production for sale yet? Or am I mistaken? I've already pledged on KS and hoping they can meet the expected delivery date. One thing you should point out for those that may not be that familiar with KS and crowdfunding is that it's only a pledge and there's no guarantee they'll even get a machine after they plunk their money down. I realize that S Simder is not likely to fail as they are an already established welding machine manufacturer and that's why I wasn't leery to put up my money. I had hoped that you would've demoed the pulse mig function welding aluminum as this is one main reason the machine interests me. Thanks for your efforts! It looks like you could use one of those inexpensive Chinese diesel heaters in your shop 😆
