    The biggest thing that helped me was realising sometimes I just don't have the energy for street photography. I felt bad about that at first but I'm an introvert and sometimes I'd rather walk in nature and take a nice landscape photo. Giving myself permission to enjoy other genres of photography was a big help.

    This helped me a lot. I didn’t know it was called the “spotlight effect” but now that I know what it’s called, I definitely struggle with that. And rushing. I want to practice street photography so so so much I just get so nervous.

    This video was not only hilarious with the b-roll but the a-roll is very sobering, in a good way.
    My takeaway is to
    -get out of your head
    -get out into the world
    -realize this is a gift
    -you’re care more than anyone else does. People often times are inspired by photographers, and even if they’re not, it’s only an opinion

    Really enjoying your content. Some great advice here especially the headphones. I always try to engage with the people who look at me strange when I get caught taking a shot. I try to make a joke and smile. Something like ` Damn that shot nearly made you famous then. Can I take another?' By engaging I find that any doubts they had melt away and they are then more than willing to allow a more focused shot to be taken. I have never had a real problem or been asked to delete anything with this approach. Well it works for me anyway. Happy shooting. 😀

    Well listening to music while doing street photography can help but you are right sometimes it’s nice to be a part of the urban environment and listening to all the noise around
    You forget to talk about not caring so much about the Gear

      I use an "expensive" camera by my African standards. But I'm very curious to get older cheaper models to learn more of photography and especially street photography, which is significantly harder to accomplish in some regions of Africa (west Africa where I live) people are hostile to cameramen

  • @Dahrenhorst
    @Dahrenhorst Před rokem +2

    I'm absolutely not candid about my street photography. Just the contrary. I sit in my wheelchair, which already attracts attention. I have build up a 5x7" large format camera on a tripod beside me for street portraits, and in the bags on my wheelchair I have half a dozen medium format film cameras of different types and sizes and loaded with different films which I use depending on what I want to photograph. A digital camera is hanging from my neck and a TLR, which is my main street photography tool, lies on my lap. I obviously don't move around or roam the streets, everybody sees what I'm doing, and very, very rarely someone complaints. Just the contrary, again. More often than not I'm asked to take a picture of them. Lastly, I don't own any book about street photography, on purpose.
