As a teen I lived about 8 miles south of this church. George Washington lived in several places in northern Virginia during his lifetime. He and his father actually helped start this church and George attended worship there as well as another church in Alexandria. On one of my visits back home in 2019 I spent several days on the grounds of this church, studying the graves and other significant information. Due to the pandemic, the building was not open, unfortunately. The organ is magnificent with great sound. Thanks for the demonstration.
Washington surveyed the land for this church and was on its vestry. During his time there was no organ. After the war, the church was nearly abandoned, as the church of England had shut down. It was used to shelter union soldiers. In the 1870s a group of locals repaired the building and re-openened it. They bought an 1850s organ from an Episcopal Church in New York state. A lot of nice but incorrect Gothic furniture was placed in the chancel In the early 1900s another renovation/restoration took place, with the help of the Women of Mt Vernon Asso. A new small 2 manual Hinners organ was installed. I have worked on this organ in past years. Its very Germanic and some what different than what an 18th century English organ would have sounded like
The 2004 Storey rebuild of this original Noack organ has resulted in a more eclectic instrument that sounds glorious in this beautiful church. I very much enjoyed your demonstration of its tonal potential, Charles, and it was good to also hear your friends enjoying the experience of playing the instrument: bravo! (I'm not sure why the upload finishes with you overhanging the balcony so precariously? I hope it wasn't in preparation for trying to steal those gorgeous Gedeckt pipes you were coveting!)
Fairfax County, Virginia. My home county. Drove past that church all the time. Never been. It's been enjoyable seeing you play the organs in a number of places I am familiar with but never been in. Except for the Basilica Shrine which I was in a lot in Law School at CUA.
Very nice! You should visit a Tannenberg organ. Those are some real nice historic organs and fun to play.

The ending was a cliffhanger....lmao

I haven't played Geo Washington's organ but I have played with Napoleon's organ (!) in a small church on Sydney's South Head.

I’m an organist and a distant cousin of George Washington!

C'est petit instrument fort intéressant, mais l'harmonisation est beaucoup trop verte.
