Lived abroad for years but still talks and sounds like our mothers. Her gestures and body posture are so South African.
    Miss her dearly.

I met her in Canada after her performance. I was 19 years old and had crashed the green room hoping to take some photos for my University project. She was the kindest lady I ever met. I was the first person she approached and went on to tell me how she had met my late president Allende and how she was good friends with his widow, and with Graca Machel. She spoke to me like I was someone she had waited her life to meet. I have no idea how she knew my nationality and everyone just assumed that I knew her. For years I told myself that she just got me mixed up with someone else that was supposed to meet her. Now I know how special she was.

I love this lady!!! I'm so grateful to have discovered her at an early age. All I had of her for a loooong time was the album, Evening with Belafonte, it got better...Limewire, Google, Utube. I taught myself and some of my Grand Children her songs in her languages and what they mean in ours. She definitely deserve a do over if she wanted one. The world slept on her. So sad.
OMG And her Soul and Beauty is PHENOMENAL.

They didnt sleep on her, they tried to punish her for standing up against racism. 1st in South Africa then in America. In America Black people were getting killed especially those associated with the Black Panthers. She married Stokely Carmichael. The target on her was made even bigger.

Amazing! She is down to earth. Thanks for this interview. I am from Mali, but the songs she sang while in Guinea are part of the Mali empire folklore where guinea used to be part of that empire. I noticed one guitarist with her who has lived both in Mali and Guinea. She interpreted those songs very well. I have purchased some of those songs online through Apple . I am not sure whether our singers are making any money out of that. Especially when they pass away.
