    The Lakers were coming off an amazing 14 game winning streak that started at the finale of the regular season and continued through the NBA Playoffs of 2001. They were 6 for 6 in the playoffs and had won 8 consecutive games to end the regular season. They were 3-0 in the NBA Semifinals against the very talented Sacramento Kings. However, Lakers star Kobe Bryant had been troubled by off the court issues. He came back from a weekend most 22 year olds couldn't handle. Just hours before the start of Game 3, Bryant had found out his wife Vanessa Laine had been taken to an emergency room. After being assured by doctors that his wife's life wasn't in danger, Bryant scored 36 points in the Lakers' victory and rushed home, only to find his wife sleeping off her undisclosed malady. After checking on his wife's health, he rushed back to Sacramento for Game 4.
    People doubted he would have enough energy to play in Game 4. He proved them wrong. On a series of putbacks, floaters, facials, and tough jumpshots, he to make up for Shaq's foul troubles put up 48 points and 16 rebounds to help LA close out the Sacramento Kings in Game 4. Bryant would go on to say that the off the court issues "weren't a distraction at all."
    Notes: This is also the same game where Kobe throws down the famous posterization on Vlade Divac.

    Kobe's greatness will always be downplayed by the thing that Bron's greatness will benefit from, TIMING. Kob came during the lovefest for Jordan, and excelled to soon after MJ's retirement. People felt giving Kob his just do would deminish the greatness of MJ, becuase Mj was seen as a once and a lifetime player. Now Bron came the summer of Kob's rape case, and was the hometown phenomenon from a small market team, and was dubbed the king and savior of the league. But Kob thus far has been better.

    True. His size and athleticism are his greatest strengths. Shot only 34%(319-392) from outside of 5 feet while shooting 67% from within that distance while leading the League in scoring. Sorry that is not a great scorer. Proficient scorer, but not a exceptional skill set. Dunks, layups that is it.

  • @BigMy28
    @BigMy28 Před 12 lety +2

    Kobe Bryant 6'6' 205lbs, had 48pts 16rebs 3ast 2stls 1blk only 2to's and was barley considered a top 5 player that year. Lebron James 6'8" 260lbs had 45pts 15rebs 5ast 0stls 0blks and 4to's and is considered the best of the best and by many better than Kobe has ever been lol. Its a shame the level of disrespect Kob gets. Lebron's 48pts 9rebs 7ast 2stls and 2to's dosent compare to Kobe's 45pts 10rebs 3ast 1stls 1blk, because it came against a primed Duncan and Spurs team, not an tired Pistons.

  • @chitownmo
    @chitownmo Před 16 lety

    They could have shared responsibilty if they both conceded. It started with Bryant, not Shaq. Shaq started later and then it went back and forth. Kobe is ambitious and always has been. Look at the 01 championship dvd. Kobe breaking the offense for himself. Look at Kobe Bryant Beyond the Glory. Cannot do that. No player is bigger than the game no matter how talented he thinks he is. He does not just want to win he wants to win his way.

  • @chitownmo

  • @BigMy28
    @BigMy28 Před 12 lety

    I never said throw away Lebrons performances lol. What i was pointing out was the double standard. If you actually watch ball back than people were so hesitant to concider Kobe elite, and they have been for years quick to pull the trigger on his elite status, every year pointing out why he's not. My post wasnt a knock on Lebron , he was merly an example. My post was a knock on sports writers and Kobe haters....... and the Pistons were at the end of their run, 3 straight ECF finals takes a toll.

  • @chitownmo
    @chitownmo Před 16 lety

    Without either of them the Lakers would not have won. They still should have played better together. Kobe could have still been developing as a player as the 2nd option to Shaq. No one was stopping him from working on his game. Kobe is too ambitious that is one of his greatest failings. He has placed personal achievement over winning which had been overdocumented and cannot be disproven by multiple analyses and testimony. He has changed over the last sesaon but it should have happend years ago.

    You can make a case for either being the best player in the League.
    Kobe is the most talented player in the game and has been for the last 9 seasons but plays a hit or miss style that often results in unneccessary losses and subpar play.
    Lebron is a freak athlete with intangibles that produces statistically but has significient skill deficiencies despite nearly unlimited potential.

    Shaq was the predominant force and leader of the Lakers during their championship run. Ducan was a great leader and dominant player as well. Kobe has choked in numerous Finals appearances and has a game defining shooting percantage less than 30%. Look it up yourself. Kobe is clutch but has failed alot as well. Melo had a higher clutch shooting percantage over the last several season with the game on the line. 06 alone Melo wa 8/14 with the game on the line.

    The Kings were actually a better team than the Pistons Lebron faced. Much better offensive team with a superstar in Webber. The 02 Kings even more. The Lakers overwhelmed them. That Laker team was better than the 04 Lakers that were in the Finals. Better chemistry and role players. Shaq and Kobe were at their dominant peak. Malone adn Payton were past their prime. Kobe was in and out of the courtroom and Shaq was overweight.

  • @chitownmo
    @chitownmo Před 16 lety

    He still was the most dominant player in the League that played with his team more than Bryant did. The Lakers relied on Shaq alot during the championship years. Considerably more than Kobe especially in the Finals. Kobe has repeatedly taken shots at the expense of the team for his own benefit. Taken plays off defensively and still earn defensive team honors and shoot some of the worst shots ever taken in a competitive game. He makes the game about himself that is why he is selfish.

    Never made no such statement you did. Shaq willingly took 2nd place to Wade after he was past his prime(06). If Kobe was not so selfish and egotistical wanting to win more than glorify himself which he has done for years he could have asked Buss to keep Shaq. Shaq was still an all star then and is still productive now although no where near as he used to be. Lakers should have won several more championships but Kobe and Shaq with Phil included help lead to their championship team separation.
