Thanks for the video. Another CZcamsr had a similar video don't pull the piece all the way out just far enough to hit the pin out.

I found that it is easier to just pry the cartridge up until the pin shows. A slotted screwdriver and a small wooden mallet loosens the cartridge easily with a little tapping.

It appears to me that you are installing the tines differently from how they are set before you removed them. So I am confused by your video which way to install the new tines. Also I have been using a drill press to push the pins out which prevents all the hammering and bloodied fingers.

Spent 20 minutes trying to get the cartridge out the way the manual said - to pry it out with a screwdriver. But you had the answer - whack it with a hammer! Fantastic suggestion - there's no way I would ever have succeeded without hammer-whacking.

I went to use mine today which would have been the 3rd time de-thatching about an 1/8th of an acre and noticed more than half the tines were snapped. Funnily enough it seemed like only one side of each tine snapped off. Didn't have a single one where both tines snapped. Thought that was weird haha. I think it depends on your soil and what height the machine is set at to determine how long the tines last. I have hard clay soil with lots of rocks here in PA and have it on setting two for height. In any case I came here to find out how to replace the tines and this video helped immensely--thank you!

I am not sure you are installing the tine properly. The tine tab(loop) may fit into the slot. The manual and replacement directions also show a different orientation of the bend in the tine. I am hoping Greenworks can comment and improve their directions in both the manual and the directions contained with the replacement tines.

Paul Blum thanks for your comment. They are installed correctly. You are correct that the manual is not so clear on the replacement of the tines. I used it right after replacing them and it worked great. I dethatch my kbg once a month. It’s a nice little machine.

Do you have any info, or suggestion regarding the electric switch replacement/assembly? I took the switch apart and have a little trouble placing the spring inside the housing.

about how much use do you get before you have to replace the tines?

    • @aroundthehousewithpat31

I have had the machine for 8 years and replaced them 3 times.

@@aroundthehousewithpat31 ok that doesn't sound so bad, can you estimate the hours of usage or amount of lawn that you dethatched in those 8 years?

@@2001eskimo I really can’t. I once replaced them after using it one time. Most of them broke off after one use because I had set it to the low setting and was using on thick high grass. I usually set it on medium. I learned my lesson there. I have gotten my money’s worth with that machine for sure. The tines are not that expensive anyway.
