Hahaha . . . “river crossing”! I would say that in your honor last year on my AT thru-hike attempt, because I always thought it was funny when you’d say it. I only made about 560 miles of the AT, so I’ll be trying again at some point. In the meantime, I’ll be following you on your hiking adventures! Stay safe, and hike on!
I am so excited watching you hike the PCT. I loved the videos of the AT, so keep that great sense of humor and be safe. I wish you the best of luck!
More to come!
Electrolytes: try to dilute the packet more, spread it out over 2-3 liters. It’s easy to miscalculate how much to use, and if you get too concentrated you pay for it on the other end 💩
Day 1 and we already have a river crossing. I don't always roll a joint, but when I do, it's an ankle. I hope all is well out there for you.
lol 😂
Okay pharmacist friend here - I am like dang it! I want her to pop some ibuprofen for the next few days to stay ahead of that swelling - also you can stick your ankle in any creeks/rivers you can find to “ice” it. Not a bad idea…but likely and hopefully by the time you read this you are already all healed up! (And you aren’t a rookie so you prob already know all this lol! I am “Mom-ing” you 😂.)
I LOVE how you take challenges and try to listen to what God is teaching or doing. I need to work on that! Love it!
Thank you
So excited to see this hike begin. Wishing you success, keep hiking and keep smiling.
Thank you! Will do!
I’m so excited to watch you again as you go on your PCT journey! You are the bomb!
Oh no! Hope that’s just a sprain and not something more serious! Pulling for you and so excited for this journey!
Thank you
Also excited to watch your journey! Thank you for doing all the work it takes to create these videos.
You are so welcome!
Taking a zero and starting to watch your PCT journey! We’re so excited for you!! Let’s gooo!
Happy trails, Roadrunner! Thanks for the shout out. 💙
-Mama Bear & Little Bear
slipping a middle finger into a photo has long been one of my favorites!
lol 😂
Right.......lol
Can’t wait to see what this adventure brings. Best of luck! Wishing you the best time! 💜
Thank you so much!!
Found your channel when you were halfway through the AT. Excited to follow you on this journey!
Welcome aboard!
Sorry about the ankle. Hope it's all right. Like the new music. Looking forward to an awesome trek. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for coming along
You started on my birthday! I know a lot of us have been so excited for your start. I hope you can feel the prayers.
Happy birthday!!
Excited for your journey and love your humor and sarcasm; it’s actually my first language with English being my second 🤗
Happy trails!
Love that
Thanks for taking us all along, good luck!!!!
Thanks 😊
Finally on the trail! I'm happy to see this first video and eager to see many more. Onward!
More to come!
Yeehaw! Here we go!!!! Love your content….and sense of humor!!
Thanks
Manzanita trees
And yes, with a bald head, those little bumps are extremely painful (Only baldheaded people understand how protective human hair is)
As an old grandpa hiker, I mostly train in barefoot shoes and intentionally step on rocks to semi twist my ankles as practice. Seems to strengthen my ankles and keep my stumble recovery sharp.
Love those Solomon speed cross shoes.
Stay safe.
Thank you
Looking forward to this pct hike. Much blessings and protection on the trail. Enjoy each moment 🌻
Thanks so much!
RoadRunner - great Day 1, except the ankle - sorry to hear, hope it's ok. Love how you told a bit about yourself for any new followers, and also you have good info in your videos - just showing where the trail comes from (direction-wise) to get to the monument, where the wall is, etc. Take care and hike on! -- Chica & Sunsets
Thanks so much!
Hope that ankle is ok. Happy to see you two on the trail!
It is!
So excited to follow your PCT journey! Sometimes, if the electrolytes are too concentrated, it can cause stomach upset. Maybe try diluting them or taking with food. Sorry about your ankle! Keep in mind, R.I.C.E. hasn't been the standard of care since it was redacted in 2015 by the originating doctor. Soaking in a cold stream can feel good. Then, warm it back up and keep it mobile. Massage several times per day can help a lot. I know it'll hurt to massage but do what you can to keep the blood flowing and then Range of Motion exercises to maintain mobility. Good luck!
It did hurt massaging it but it’s better now
@@hikingdancer, right. It hurts to massage so do as much as your pain tolerance allows and then it feels better afterward. I truly believe this approach will also speed the healing process. Good luck!
Roadrunner, Just found your PCT videos, so will be following you along your PCT adventure. I very much enjoyed following you previously on the AT. Good luck and enjoy.
YIPEE!!!!! Looking forward to your videos!!!
Yay! Thank you!
I am so happy to follow your PCT adventures, but sad to hear about your ankle. Hope it is better! God bless you both as you hike the PCT! Praying for no more injuries! 🙏
Me too
Welcome to CA, where the weather can change every few miles! Sorry about ankle, hope everything is well.
Oh yeah we already figured that out
I love your videos, and would love to hike some on the PCT! Thanks for sharing your adventure with us ! 🥾🥾😎
My pleasure
Wishing you a safe journey, good health and good fortune. May you achieve the success you desire. Happy Trails!
I saw that finger... Guessing that was Lil Chap. Sorry to hear about the injury on day 1. I do like the image you are describing of God slowing you down. I could picture that, LoL. I've followed your AT hike and am looking forward to following along on your PT hike. I have not hiked it but followed another hiker a few years ago. It's a beautiful trail and I hope you and Lil Chap experience all its beauty. Hike~~On~~>
It’s quite beautiful out here
And we’re off! Good luck to you and Chap!
Thank you
Safe hiking to you both!! Cheering for you!!!
Thanks
Watching you bc my son is just behind you but won’t check in lol. Thanks for great video- be safe!!
Who is your son?
Followed you since your Prep for the AT. I’m excited to keep up with you on the PCT.
Awesome! Thank you!
Yay! Back in your happy place! Don't forget your other signature saying in tour Joey from Friends voice "how you doin' " ? 😂
Oh yeah I need to
PCT! Vereh nice! Good luck. And hell yes to the less wet, muddy and icky trails? lol
You know it!
Liked the music selection.... always hike in shorts when possible, it helps regulate your temp... and yes many people get nausea from electrolytes. Try diluting the ratio more on the water side, and split the packets into multiple servings. Hope the ankle is not serious..and perhaps get Chap to change his name to Wily Coyote ... as he will always be chasin you.....Beep beep ....
Beep beep
You should get to enjoy a beautiful desert bloom this year. Sorry about your ankle. There is an old Boy Scout technique to tie up a sprained ankle with a triangular bandage. Look it up. You really should have a HeetSheet emergency blanket and Zippo pocket warmer for cold nights. The sun is why you need an umbrella. The PCT is more dangerous and further from help so, you have to Be Prepared. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
Thank you Rick
I hope your ankle heals quickly. Good luck with your hike. 😎👍
Thanks 👍
So it begins. Thanks for sharing.
You bet
Here we go!! Let the journey begin! 🥾🥾😎🏕️
Thank you Whiskers
Hope the ankle heals quickly. I like that you can camp anywhere on the trail like that.
It’s pretty neat
Enjoyed your AT adventure and now will happily follow you again🌞🌞
Awesome, thank you!
I'm glad you have a hiking partner this time around roadrunner, you both stay safe! :o)
Have some Wild Zora’s on me!
How generous. I assume RR gave it 10/10.
Thank you thank you thank youuuuuuuu
have a great adventure !!!
And that is exactly why I enjoy listening to you: Mild Sarcasm spoke in a mixed accent of Germen and Southern
Excited to watch your adventures
Thank you
No more rolling the ankle(s)! Ice, elevate, maybe pick up a support brace for a while. We like how you say things. Most of us can’t even say colloquialisms!
lol thank you so much h 🤗💪🏻
Good luck. We are all pushing good vibes your way.
Thanks
Congrats on your first day on the PCT and good luck.
Thank you!!
So good to see you clearly enjoying being on-trial. Hope the sprain is only a minor one.
I hope so too!
Can’t wait! It feels like me!
💪🏻
Man that base camp looks pretty cool!!
It was awesome
Go Roadrunner Go!
👟😎👍🏼
You look so amazing happy! Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
I followed you through you AT hike and now I ll be your companion in your PCT hike. Hope all goes well and enjoy this experience.
Thanks for coming along
Roadrunner, I’m excited for your adventure. May your pack fill light your miles be many and Your pains be few . Eeyore and his son and I started at Amakola Falls, Georgia to Neil’s gap for his son’s first part of the section hike. Hopeful for PCT in 2027. Looking forward again to your venture. Be safe and God bless Padre.
Thank you
You are SO funny, I love following you on your adventures sorry to hear about your ankle, I can’t tell you how many times I have rolled my left ankle… if anything, wearing an ankle brace for a day or so definitely helps if you have swelling
Thank you
I love hearing your accent!!
Thanks
You two make such a great couple.Kidding,I love the sarcasm. I can't imagine being able to speak German as well as you speak English.
I'm confused about it being so hot at 60°.🤔 Lol,"Chicken Legs"!
Yeah
Julianne, And you're off. Great start. You and Little Chap make great hiking partners. Hopefully those are the last hiking injuries - your ankle and his head. Seriously, ya'll be careful. Great views. Ya'll take care. Stay safe. See you tomorrow.
Thank you
Even with a misshap of an ankle roll, you'll do amazing. Keep trekking. 😀
Thanks 👍
Great analogy of God.. listen to Him..gonna keep ya safe. Blessings and safe trails. You're on my prayer list
Thank you, I will
Love the tag on Mexico. 🤣 But then rolling your ankle and Lil'Chap smaking a tree? Yeah, I think the universe is telling y'all to slow your roll. Get it out of your system now. Here's to better days ahead!
Love it
Electrolytes are something that I like to water down so I have a better balance (for me at least) maybe for you too. Thanks for a good post of the trail. Enjoy! ❤️🏃♀️🌿🧘🏼🙏
I’ll try that method
Yea… your back!’
Woot woot
Your fake southern accent combined with a real German accent never gets old. 😅
Good like to you on the pct. Roll with the punches. You got this.
Also - as for electrolytes, i asked AI. Might be additives in the electrolyte mix you use. Might be the proportions of particular electrolytes are out of balance with what your body needs. I’d suggest you try using pure electrolyte powder - like LMNT unflavored, and or electrolyte capsules (that might have different proportions) and see what happens. You can also just try consuming electrolytes more regularly and slowly in smaller doses rather than chugging like it’s Oktoberfest.
Thank you. And thanks for the electrolyte info
Awesome video... I would prob not do the hike to Mexico, but it's not that far and HYOH. I know this will be great.... Du hast Gekrackt!!!!
Yes, it’s always good to be humble and gracious! Been backpacking for yrs and yrs & have 5K+ miles (I stopped counting long ago) under my belt w longest time out at 5 1/2 mos. Last yr I went on a 2day overnight just to get out, slipped on ice, and broke my shoulder in 3 places 😶 Things just happen sometimes.
Wow I’m sorry to hear that
I laughed when you had chocolate face. I constantly have stuff on my face when vlogging. It’s my curse.
I always have stuff on my face too
Looking so forward to you and Lil Chap's hike. Southern California Crossin......!
Absolutely
What brand is the hoodie you are wearing? I love it!
Happy Trails!
Always!
Prefer your honesty and sharing. So happy you have started.will be interesting to hear your views on climate differences and the trail. Always enjoy your videos
Thank you! Will do!
Manzanita (little apples) I'm sure you'll see many species and varieties along the trail. Looking forward to tagging along.
Welcome aboard
Have a great hike! I hope you see a roadrunner; they're out there. 8:08 Cholla (probably Cylindropuntia californica var. parkeri) and Sugar Bush (Rhus ovata). 8:11 Flower stalk of Chaparral Yucca. There were many in the video. 8:16 Prickly pear (probably Opuntia phaeacantha). 10:35 Chaparral Whitethorn (a Ceanothus species). 11:43 California buckwheat behind you. They're everywhere in the chaparral and sage scrub. 11:47 Chalk Dudleya (San Diego County has 15 species of Dudleya). 15:14 Of course the state flower, California Poppy. 17:24 Beautiful manzanita behind you. There are three species out here: Mexican, Eastwood, and Bigberry Manzanita ("little apple" in Spanish). That's some old growth chaparral right there. Lots of chamise, black sage, and white sage throughout the video.
Thanks so much for identifying the plants. I did that for Roadrunner when she hiked the AT.
@@abigailjames7989 I grow native chaparral plants in my yard. It's all over behind my house in any event, but I love having a yard that's a habitat and not the petroleum-based yard carpets that many of my neighbors have now.
@@stevenvarner9806 I live off of the Appalachian Trail and followed Road Runner on her hike two years ago. My husband and I are part of a group that grows native plants here. I would do what you have done and identify the plants and flowers as she went along the AT. Love having you point out the plants on the PCT. Thanks so much. From one native plant freek to another!
This is such a helpful comment. Thank you so so much
Awesome
OK, so despite your warning that people might find a little "strange", I like you so far. I like your enthusiasm and of all the PCT hikers I'm following ( a lot), I think you might make it to the end.
Thank you so much . I’m strange so I’m sure people will find things about me strange
So massive difference from the A.T to the PTC. Wow no shade no shelter looks like no water and wide open spaces. And now your ankle 😢 sending out prayers for a fast recovery. 🙏 take care of that hopefully nothing major has happened
You got that right!
Belle première vidéo sur le PCT ❤ merci 🇹🇩🇹🇩🇹🇩
Thank you
Manzanita bushes. Hope the ankle is Okay...
Thank you
Off to a good start. Differently not the AT. Face got red. 👍👍
❤ that was karma for chap making fun of a cow hitting his head 😂 lol yall 2 stay safe be waiting for the next video ❤❤❤
lol 😂 😂
Grüße aus Deutschland! Happy trails!🤞
Danke
Arid climate, rapid temp drop, cool air outside, warm air inside equals condensation!
So right
Hope your ancle is OK. On shorts: There were very few days on the PCT where I used anything else. I didn't even bring hiking pants but had rain pants and polypro sleep pants I could hike in if necessary.
I’ve been back and forth between long pants and shorts
Depends what minerals are in the drink mix. Some have zinc, that can make you feel queasy. Also, drinking too much electrolytes and sodium can make you queasy. Maybe only drink when you really need them, like in desert, etc
With the electrolytes, try sloshing a mouth full around in your mouth first before drinking/swallowing, it helps your body adjust to it better and may help prevent some of the issues your having. There's an acupressure point on the wrist where you take a pulse that you can press to treat the nausea, alternatively you can pull down on your earlobe.
Los geht’s. Ich freue mich. Ich hoffe, mit dem Knöchel ist nichts schlimmes. Ich drück dir die Daumen.
Alles besser
Oh my ! Hope ankle is okay.
Thank you
The wall echoes as it’s tuned to 432Hz. The electrolytes makes you nauseous because of the dyes and chemicals. Instead, use Celtic Salt, Sea Salt or Himalayan salt. These salts mineralize the teeth and bones as well. Alternatively, baking soda also can be used as electrolytes, but not if you treat your water with bleach. Hope this answers your question.
Sorry about the ankle/god slap. 😂 On the AT you waited until day 3 to get an injury, so at least this time you got it out of the way earlier 😉
Maybe some of the extra warmth with the pants is because they're dark, and it's absorbing the heat from the sun. If you're wearing shorts, don't forget to put lots of sunscreen on!
Good day 1 👍 😊
Thank youuuuuuu
Electro lights, try a different brand and watch the sugar. Some days I have to split it in half, water it down so to speak. You’ll be drinking it longer, but slower intake.
Yes this one was Peak Refuel
I get nauseus when I drink electrolytes sometimes as well and I don't know why?? Did you get an answer to that ?
Maybe too much concentration
Some people get nauseous with the salt that is in the electrolytes. I hear that Thermotabs which you can get at a pharmacy are popular with desert hikers and are buffered salt so you won’t get nauseous.
When will you hit Echo Lake around Tahoe area?
Nooooo clue
@@hikingdancer My wife and I followed you when you did the TRT and we’re inspired by your movement. We could be your trail Angels at Echo Lake chalet. Let’s us know if you need anything.
Great music
Thank you
