hi nice tank. do you have lid for your tank, im thinking to set up one. but my tank is open top. thats why im asking you.
I’ve kept both. For saltwater tanks I typically do open tanks with mesh covers. For freshwater it’s either open top or glass lids. Many freshwater community fish are too small for mesh covers and can jump right through them. If it’s a planted tank - I’ll keep the tank open for the gas exchange. You have to top off more with an open top, but you have less of a risk of jump with a heavily planted tank over a non planted one.
Can i use a 20 gallon tank while they are still small (3 - 4 inches)? And i have only 4 cichild right now
Likely no - The best cichlids for that size would be shelling dwelling types, but you already have 4 cichlids.
can we put driftwood in cichlids aquarium?
You can, but you have to monitor your pH because the driftwood will lower the pH and soften the water. One thing you can do is purchase artificial driftwood that won't alter the water chemistry. However, you will still need to watch for fish that dig and them getting injured from the edges of the wood. This is generally why african cichlid keeps avoid them.
