    Ive had the MDR-1AM2 for a month now. Theyre the perfect headphones for on the go. Comfy, great bass/mids/highs. Absolutely blown away. Performs great connected directly to my phone, and absolutely shines with the Fiio Q5 as a mobile dac/amp.

      TostiTostelli have you tried the balanced sound? I’m quite fond of the Sony 4.4 Balanced to my Z5 from my ZX300, it’s a huge upgrade in term of sound. And IF the 1AM2 sound much better on Balanced than that should be the go for me in replace of my B&O H6

    • @TostiTostelli
      @TostiTostelli Před 6 lety +3

      I havent tried the balanced sound yet sadly, since i dont have a dac/amp that has a balanced 4,4 out. But even on the regular 3,5mm i'd comfortably pick these over any closed-back dynamic headphones under 500 euros.

    Great review! Btw Panasonic rp-hd10e are very similar (also low impedance high res closed headphones) and not many people know them (they have like 5 amazon reviews). They are also quite pretty and cheap! :) Audio-Technica MSR7 are also similar, but they are 35 Ohm already. So better for mixed (home/outside) use and they could already use an external Amp.
    Anyway keep up the good work! ;)

    I have the MDR-1A and the connection on the headphone is proprietary although it looks like it is an ordinary 3.5mm connection. I like the sound quality, clear highs and quality bass. Comfort is also good, also for people who wear glasses like me. But the cable is too short, 1.25m is just enough for my desktop pc.

    After this review and the mention in your last video of the Nfb-11 (a review of this would be great, giving also some import details) I just subscribed. How does this compare to the b&o h6? I returned the first version of the mdr1a due to the boomy and uncontrolled bass (and I like bass quite a bit) but certain albums like the dark side of the moon were ruined. They were great for gaming tho.

  • @robertnoblitt518

    I just bought the Sony MDR-1AM2 today, primarily to use with my Samsung Tab S3 tablet. So far, I am amazed at the sound quality. Also, they are very comfortable. My tablet has an audio equalizer. The Sony phones seem to sound best with the lowest and highest frequencies reduced by 1 db. Vocals, percussion, plucked instruments sound wonderful. To compare them, I have a several years old Sennheiser HD 600. The Sennheiser may be more tonally neutral, but I prefer listening to the Sony. It makes me smile. 😀 Eventually, I realized I needed a better source device to match the quality of the Sony headphones, so I bought a Sony NW-WM1A Premium Walkman. I use it to play high-resolution FLAC files. These 2 products were made for each other and are amazing together. The sound is as perfect as I have ever experienced. They connect with a balanced cable, and yes, this makes an audible improvement. Also the frequency response seems flatter than I heard using my phone or tablet as the player. With the Walkman, I don't use its equalizer, preferring its Direct mode, for maximum clarity and detail.

    Cable 4.4 balanced MDR-1AM2 can pair MAR-1A?

  • @echoed61
    @echoed61 Před 4 lety +1

    ended up returning mine for MDR1As, as the fit isn't right. The sound is great, of course. I think the balanced cable is just a marketing gimmick for the Walkman (but I need to go and listen to them in a shop). The one local Bic Camera in my town has one Walkman on display with these cans and the battery was run down! I am praying that the fit of the MDR-1As is the same as my earlier MDR-1Rs - because they were perfect. Or at least not as slimline as the MDR 1AM2s! At the very least, this aborted buy made me knowledgeable about what balanced wiring is. For anyone wondering, the MDR1 AM2s ARE comfortable - and light - for sure, but I am really sensitive to phones and they enclose my ears, which I don't like. If the MDR -1A does the same, I will just have to lump it. Thanks for your intelligent review, Damir. Mach's gut!

      I bought them 3 days ago, the bass makes music sound muddy and very high frequencies are way too quiet, but since they have impedance of 16 ohms you can make them sound amazing even with a smartphone. Reduce the bass from 32-250hz by 3db, 500-4k by 2db, 8k by 1db and leave 16k at baseline and you will hear details like on studio headphones, the only thing really missing is the soundstage, but I really like them as portable headphones for going out and listening to music in bed because they are so light and comfortable.

      huawei p smart vs galaxy a5 2017 Is what im referring to. the a5 has much more features such as usb 3.0 and its nic is 802.11ac and its IP68 certified and has better camera. But went to store to try them out I was drawn to the huawei p smart literally because of its design which has 18:9 (a5 only has 16:9) but it literally has the same comms as my 2015 phone and the display feels more like an upgrade because It is slimmer/bigger but I know that my current phone has practically the same screen contrast ratio and colour reproduction. Also Ive sort of thought about the J7 2017 but not sure. Also do you prefer IPS technology because there is no screen burn which occurs in AMOLED or is it because IPS produces more natural colours? Would I notice more of a difference getting a bigger(18:9) screen or a screen with much better colour (and slightly bigger) Sorry for long reply :/ Just throwing it all up. Im conflicted af.

    Why do these companies continue to make narrow ear pads? It's ridiculous.
    Comfort is the most important factor with headphones.
    They should make them wider or at least offer optional wider ear pads.
