      its not 100k. I think he said that cuz he's an international student so he pays 50K, not 100. My guess is a) he didn't know the exact number so he guessed or b) he wanted to over exaggerate

      Well for International students, it's indeed possible to go that high for 4 years degree(depending on Ur degree, adding up Ur living expenses, Ur accomodation, textbooks...), and without scholarship and financial aid, I wouldn't even been able to afford going overseas :(

    Choosing what college to go to was a super hard decision for me. I boiled it down to either, Ivey, UofT or Schulich and ultimately chose Schulich but soon realized UofT had greater brand value.
    The reason I chose Schulich was because it had the following:
    a) Prestige - Been ranked top 5 for years now in Canada.
    b) Easier course load - Which has allowed me run my business successfully while gaining internships.
    Ultimately I realized the following:
    Prestige is a HUGE deal, going to a great school has way too many advantages. ALSO being able to build something , such as a business does boost your application.
    For example, if Goldman Sachs office in Canada was looking at a student from UofT with a 3.6 GPA but runs a successful small M&A boutique firm while in college + had 1 strong internship VS a UPenn student with a 3.8 GPA who had 2 strong internships & joined 2 investment clubs of the school. The company would choose the UofT student.
    Thus my philopophy was to go to a decent school and get decent enought grades (B+ being my aim) but have GREAT work experience as the main driver!
    I would love to hear your thoughts on Schulich vs UofT because I'm considering transferring in my 2nd yr & your POV on the above paragraph!
    Have an awesome day!

      Wow thank you so much for your very detailed suggestion! Its great to hear from a business school student from a different school. An interesting thing I'm considering as I'm leaning towards coming to UofT next year is that for my program, overall costs don't seem to be that much higher than the other places I was looking at -- I'm deciding between UofT, uOttawa, and UVic for completing my music education degree. Yearly tuition and housing prices seem to be pretty similar: ~7k for tuition and fees, 11-14k for housing + mealplan. Considering McGill is in similar stature (slightly above for Music) to UofT and their tuition is something like 11k for non-quebec students, UofT is not that bad price-wise. I don't know how different it is for STEM fields, but the places I'm looking at are generally on a level playing field for costs I think it makes the choice for Toronto a lot easier considering the better opportunities it has to offer.

    As someone told me when I was at UofT...UofT can't study for you, take your exams and make you ace that job interview. And not everyone is 'made' the same....So basically, if you're the type of person that WILL DO ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING to get good grades, be it only sleep a few hours a day, cut out social life, fight through headaches and empty stomach...yeah, you'll do good at UofT...but if you don't want to 'harm' yourself...set realistic expectations if you attend UofT, like, I'll get a degree in 4 or 5 or 6 years but don't ask me what my C.G.P.A. is. That type of student.

    Thanks for sharing. I found the video really informative. I am from the US and considering applying to UofT. I am a little hesitant because it seems very rigorous and a difficult place to make friends. If I want to apply to medical schools afterwards, would it be beneficial to have gone to UofT, or would it be detrimental as it is difficult to get a high gpa at this school? Is studying an all-consuming part of student life? Do you think there is much of a culture or do people mainly focus on their academics?

    • @RichardHan
      @RichardHan  Před 4 lety +2

      Great question, as I mentioned in my video it all really depends on what you are looking for. There are advantages and disadvantages of going to UofT if you are thinking of going into Med school afterwards, so I would suggest you to really think about what you want from your undergrad. With that being said there is definitely a culture at UofT, we don't study all the time. For more information about this watch my other video "Is it hard to make friends at University of Toronto?". First of all congratulations on your acceptance and that's a great question. So, I personally didn't work part time job because I wanted to focus more on school and extracurricular activities. When you come to UofT you will realize that you won't have that much free time, so it will be impressive if you can balance everything while you are working a part time job. I don't want to discourage you from working a part time job so definitely try it out, but It might be a little hard. For your second question, I think CZcams is the greatest platform for studying. I tried to find more free online study material and CZcams is the best one yet. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!

    I have a question regarding the fees so do you think that after graduating it's most likely that you will get a high pay job which will be a good source of income and help to play your loan back if you take student loan

    • @RichardHan
      @RichardHan  Před 4 lety +2

      Great question, and I think so because I didn't hear any stories of uoft alumni having trouble to pay off their loans after graduating. If you take a look at my other video "INTERVIEWING THE SMARTEST GUY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO | HARVARD LAW SCHOOL, 4.0 GPA, CIBC" ( czcams.com/video/0242vyQwh44/video.html ) my friend Jack agrees that being a uoft graduate does tend to give recruiters a good impression. So I think generally students don't have trouble paying off their loans after graduating. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!

      @RichardHan  Před 4 lety +2

      Great question, so since I am not a CS student my answer to this question may not be as strong. However knowing many CS students I think they spend about the same time studying at home as they spend in classes. So if they had 4 hours of classes they would spend about 4 hours studying at home as well. Also I would love to do more interviews in the future and I will definitely get some of my CS friends to help me out. Thank you for your suggestion and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!

    Hey Richard! How important is getting a good GPA, other than for getting into grad school?

    • @RichardHan
      @RichardHan  Před 4 lety +3

      Having good GPA is good for lots of reasons. Obviously recruiters will like students with high GPA, so you will have a greater chance of getting a better job. Secondly, having a good GPA is a great accomplishment as well. So if you have a high GPA you can also put your GPA in your resume.

    • @nerukajoseph8706
      @nerukajoseph8706 Před 4 lety +2

      @@RichardHan Would you say that it's more important to have a good GPA than building your skills at UofT? Will recruiters consider that you went to UofT when looking at your GPA? Or is there no point in building your skills if your GPA is not the very best (because there will be some competition for getting a job)?

    • @RichardHan
      @RichardHan  Před 4 lety +2

      This is a really personal answer but I would say it’s the skills because the recruiters will be able to see through more than just you marks during an in-person interview!

    wait is 100k+ for international or domestic?
    Cause I used the university's calculator and it said round 40K for me (resident domestic) are there other expenses not talked about? honestly if someone could answer me it would be much appreciated. The total cost is gonna be a huge factor in my decision making.

    • @RichardHan
      @RichardHan  Před 4 lety +2

      That’s a great question, so if you are not planning on living on residence or getting an apartment, it becomes a lot more affordable for domestic students. The 100K comes from 7~8K tuition per year (some programs are higher) 14~16K residence fee per year , text books, transportation, and other utility fees over the course of 4 years comes roughly around 100K for domestic students. It’s a lot more expensive for international students. However if you are already living with your parents you won’t have to pay your residence fee, so it will be a lot less. I hope I was able to answer your questions and if you have any further questions please let me know. I wish the best of luck to you in the future!

      Great question, so it really depends on what you are looking to learn/get out of university. There are definitely pros and cons of attending UofT, and my short answer to your question is no it doesn't matter which university you go to as long as you know what you want from that university. Really think about what you want to learn, because different universities will teach you different things.
