Bear cub climbs mountain to reunite with mama bear

  • IT was almost snow-go for a cute - and determined - cub which gamely tried to follow its mum up a steep and extremely slippery snow-covered slope.
Video footage of the plucky young animal shows the creature refusing to have a melt-down, despite repeatedly sliding down the powdery surface.
The clip, which has gone viral on social media, had viewers admitting they felt “stressed out” as it was "hard to watch" the cub continually slide down the mountain, towards rocks.
It starts by showing the pair clambering over a rocky patch of ground as the mum guides her young cub towards the top of the mountain.
Both animals initially slide down the slope, but the mother quickly regains her footing and makes it to the ridge, where she waits for the cub to join her.
Plenty of heart-stopping moments follow as the cub struggles to reach her, and it leaves long trails in the snow where its claws have dug in to stop it slipping too far below.
However it slides a considerable distance, ending up on a large rocky patch.
Meanwhile, its mother looks anxiously over the ridge, pacing to and fro.
At one stage, the cub is within just a few feet of its mum.
But at this precise moment, when the cub is nearly beside her, she appears to look straight ahead, and seems nervous about a drone filming her cub.

While I agree 100% what is said about that selfish, terrible drone pilot.. You say “he” almost killed it. Now a days in 2018, aren’t we trying to get rid of that? ManNie801 well I have a degree in English and from a purely grammatical standpoint you aren’t supposed to refer to a single person as a “they.” You have to choose a gender and “he” is usually the standard default when you aren’t sure (I graduated in 2009 so perhaps the OED has since changed its stance on gender pronouns but that’s what I was taught.) Is that blatant evidence that our society still adheres to patriarchal leadership? Maybe, but I personally think we have much bigger things to worry about these days than gender pronouns (I’m sure I’ll be massacred for saying that but it’s how I feel so it is what it is.) Women are becoming more and more powerful and less and less complacent about their roles in our society and I don’t believe saying “mailman” or “garbage man” is going to impede said progression. But as a woman I’ll take your comment to heart and start saying “she” instead :)

Any bear cub is more prepared to climb, grab, and fight than you will probably ever be in your life. Where humans do cross the line is pollution, deforestation, and other types of major intrusions in natural environments. I also believe that the operator did not intend to 'harass' any animal, he just wanted to get a better shot, and the fact that he did not repeat the close-up maneuver a second time supports this assumption.

There were quite a few dangers for the cub on this slope beside the drone. One thing is for sure, no animal was hurt, trapped or otherwise movement impaired by humans in this video. I have good reasons to believe that the operator did not intentionally provoke the situation. Also, judging by the capabilities and the physical form of this cub, it is healthy and strong, and nature is clearly on its side in this one.
