  • As part of Science on the Sofa's digital programme Hands Online we bring you two videos from the Really Small Science team, University of Strathclyde.
Following on from Video 1: Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging, Sylvia Battcock introduces you to Video 2: Potato Bioplastics where she explains about bioplastics and how we can make a plastic from potatoes.
Most of the plastic which we use every day comes from petrochemical sources - fossil fuels - which are an unsustainable recourse. These plastics don’t break down naturally and need to be recycled. However, an increasing number of bioplastics are being created by engineers and scientists. Bioplastics are plastic materials produced from renewable biomass sources.
