- Jim Ladd 1948-2023
My old friend Jim Ladd died yesterday in his sleep.
RIP Jim Ladd. As the Irish have it, “I’m sorry for my loss.” I just watched an interview I did with Jim in 1984, fuck he was good, and so was Stewy my cocker spaniel. Jim suffered a setback at work recently. SiriusXM, for whom he worked, cut him from six Deep Tracks shows a week to one. Thank you Scott Greenstein, and if it wasn’t you, you should have stopped who ever it was. I believe Jim was fired, partly at least, because of me. Against the company’s better judgment Jim had interviewed me on Deep Tracks, and our conversation had veered too close to the sacred cow, Israel, and it’s subjugation of the Palestinians.
I loved Jim and he loved me. I got him the job at Sirius when the meat grinder that is modern LA finally closed its door on his legendry career at KMET and KLOS. Jim was a revolutionary. Jim Ladd believed in the power of love. Jim Ladd believed in telling the truth, Jim Ladd believed in human rights, Jim Ladd believed in Freeform Radio.
#JimLadd and I were in discussion about starting a new Radio Station next year. Radio KAOS FM. I can’t imagine it without Jim, but? Who knows? Maybe someone will step up to fill his mighty shoes?
Resistance to evil empires will always be there, thank god, and the US evil empire is now cheerleading genocides. If there ever was a time for the young to pick up Jim Ladd’s torch and continue his lifetimes work of bringing light into the dark places, it is now!
I will miss you my brother.
Love
R. - Hudba
RIP Jim Ladd. Thank you Roger for introducing me to him on Radio KAOS
@@EricWGagnonEZEThat "Billy" is a reference to William "Billy" Shears Campbell. Pink Floyd made Piper in studio 3 in Abbey Road in 1967 while The Beatles were making Sgt Pepper in studio 2. Floyd's producer Norman Smith took them to a little visit at studio 2 where John, Bill, George, Ringo and George Martin were mixing Lovely Rita. Here, Rick noticed something different with Paul compared to the man who appeared on Ed Sullivan Show three years earlier. Rick and Syd talked with the real Paul at UFO in 1966 while he was still alive. Bill greeted them as Paul McCartney but he hadn't found the role yet. Roger and Rick noticed that.
@@perkarnofficiel8808Oh I hadnt heard this part of the Billy story, thanks for sharing. Incredibly dark the whole thing. Any more you can share on it?
KMET Rocktober baby. "Thank you for being my friend"
I'm playing this album as we speak to pay tribute to him. Rest in Peace Eternal, Mr. Ladd, your memory will live on in our hearts and you are missed beyond the measure of words.
Jim was a great rock and roller. Loved to listen to "Headsets" back in the day. He was a fantastic interviewer as well ! I attended the Radio KAOS concert in Los Angeles on September 20, 1987, the home town crowd adored the fact their man Jim was part of the album and tour.
A little story... Jim was at an event, my friend Brian attended as well and brought along a tape recorder. Jim kindly recorded Brian's answering machine announcement, which he used for many years. Whenever I left a message for Brian, I got to hear Jim !!
Rest In peace !!
I was there too. It was great to see Jim on stage (as well as the other KMET djs sitting in front of me - I was in the fifth row). You could tell from their “Innerviews” together that Roger and Jim got along really well. That was a very special night. R.I.P., Jim Ladd.
Rest in Peace, Jim Ladd! A legendary career you had. Loved the speech in Los Angeles 1980 about the security guards being angry about marijuana. For those who don't know, Ladd MC'd one of the L.A. 1980 Wall concerts, and lit a joint before In The Flesh (2). This man was a legend. Rest In Peace.
R.I.P 🌹 Jim Ladd.
Can’t remember the year, was it 86/87? KAOS tour, LONDON Wembley Arena, 2 nights, I went both nights, Jim did the DJ ing live, he was brilliant, as was the whole show. The intermission ‘phone in’ from a booth set up in the stalls where audience members could queue up to ask questions was unique/genius. Those gigs will always be in my top 10 of my lifetime. RIP Jim, thank you Roger for introducing us to him 👍
Righteous!
when i realized what this video was for the first words out of my mouth were, "oh no". having roger break the news to me seems appropriate,if you can call it that. i listened to jim for years, first on KMET then KLSX and KLOS, and all the little stations in between that had the guts to put him on the air,and let him do what he did best: hold a mirror up to the world and let it see all the flaws within. his brand of free form radio was the stuff of legends. i saw him on the radio KAOS tour at the forum in los angeles, and a few other live events including a couple of "jim ladd's living room" interviews. he was there to give us comfort when we lost john lennon to, as he called him, "the asshole who did it". the peace and love generation has lost another of its staunch supporters, and the world has lost one of the greatest voices ever to speak into a microphone. thoughts and prayers to his family and friends, especially roger who understood fully what jim was about. is everybody in? the ceremony is about to begin. LORD HAVE MERCY!
To me, Jim Ladd's voice has always been the gold standard, the classic tone and timbre, of what any DJ should emulate. Smooth, rich, having suggestions of toughness but also rounded edges of kindness, and-most importantly-effortlessly cool.
Thx u Jim/Roger fer interviews 1 through 7 on The Final Cut 1984/83
Condolences to his Family and your memories of him, Mr. Waters.
I will always remember my times of listening to Radio KAOS. ☮️
RIP Jim Ladd. When I arrived in LA, in 1992, and heard your voice on the radio I knew I was home. I used to listen to your 'Headsets'(?) hour long specials while driving around Lake Tahoe. Another great voice lost, just when we need them most.
All your albums are gems Roger. RIP Jim.
Saw the KAOS tour and loved the album. Jim’s contribution was fabulous. RIP Jim.
RIP Jim, I'll never forget your golden voice and stellar career! Thanks & huge respect, Roger!
I miss Jim Ladd. He was such a phenomenal interviewer! RIP Jim. His interviews with Roger and Neil Peart rank among my favorites of all time!
❤RIP Jim Ladd❤
Condolence dear Roger❤
I remember seeing him in Oakland, Ca on the Radio KAOS Tour September 26, 1987 what an amazing show and it wouldn't have been the same without him RIP Jim Ladd... 😢
Love the album.......................😃
So deeply saddened to hear this heart breaking news! I had the pleasure of working with Jim, on a Headsets project and he was one of the coolest dudes ever! Such a nice and generous soul. He was a legendary voice for humanity. He will be sorely missed. "Lord have mercy" Rest In Peace.
💌 for the truth I was not blessed enough to know even who He was (RIP*) , but by consequence Your pain is now mine, Roger.
Life is short, only LOVE we leave behind us lengthens it...
I’m sad to hear of Jim’s passing - a central part of one my favourite albums - Radio Kaos. RIP Jim. And remember, my least-hated, favourite fish would be sole.
We'll all miss you JIM. RIP
Only time I had the good fortune of seeing Jim perform in person was the Kaos Tour (Oakland '87) > of course We have Roger to thank for that.
God (or whatever One happens to pray to) speed Jim 🙏
We are losing the good guys Roger! Condolences on this loss!
Very sad to hear. The narration on the album was key to bringing it all together. I remember playing this and hitchhiking laid on the bed in my dorm room at uni, trying to play a few lines on my guitar. Fond memories Roger. And thank you so much for speaking up about Palestine all these years.
Loved Jim's nationally syndicated radio series Innerview. And when KAOS came out, I went to opening night in Providence, RI and closing night in Worcester, MA. and several in between. Jim was great in those shows. Roger made a very unique and innovative presentation for a concert. I went all the way to Montreal to film it so it wouldn't be just a faded memory. It was my 4th time filming a show. Back of the arena and no optical stabilization (wasn't invented or available yet in consumer cameras). After all these years, I'm so glad I tried. It's not perfect but it is enjoyable. Synched up to the radio broadcasts of Quebec City and London. Funny thing is the Quebec City a night later was harder to synch as opposed to London two weeks later, which was seamless. If you want to relive Jim and Roger on the KAOS tour, or if you do Roger, someone posted it here:

Brilliant album and a sad loss.
"High atop the Hollywood Hills..." What a legend.
Jim definitely adds something special to Radio Kaos 📻 RIP Jim 💚🙏
Roger was the first person I thought of when I read of Jim Ladd's passing. Always said to myself, "stand still, Laddy". Glad I lived in So Cal at the time to hear this brilliant DJ on KMET and KLOS. RIP Laddy.
Long live rebel radio and one of the great the originators of it, Jim Ladd.
Благодарю.
Oh man, this is sad news. I once knew Jim Ladd, last century. RIP
I grew up with Jim Ladd. Loved his Jackson Browne interviews!!! Such a dude
RIP Jim Ladd.
We didn't always agree politically but we did agree on one thing. The Music. Good luck on your journey down the Mystic Highway. R.I.P. Jim and thank you for being my friend for the last 45 years!
I listened to his shows all through the 80s. RIP, brother Ladd.

Good night, Jim...😪😭
Sorry for your loss Roger. He will always be alive in your memory, it is the good times you spent together that leave a living trace. I lost a good friend, it was 30 years ago last week and he was still very much alive in my thoughts.
I was legit listening to Radio Kaos when you posted this sad news.
first cd I loved it
A huge loss for rock n roll
🙏 ❤️
This is overdue
I grew to have an appreciation for Radio KAOS at the tender age of ten and only got to hear about how the tour was the stuff of legend. I am very sad to hear this news and hope one day a restored pro shot from that tour will someday surface
OH MY GOD - I just talked to him 10 days ago....
What a loss.....

So sad and angry to hear that. His voice will keep resonating in our ears. And once more, it's always someone else to blame... especially those who don't like serious talk.
With the passing of Jim Ladd, we need to protect Redbeard!

Roger chooses to live on stolen land

RIP legendary DJ.
But it was better if Roger wasn't mentioning his stupid political views in the description, if he wanted to honour his friend....
I guess it would have been all right if you agreed with Roger's political views. Just saying.
I remember when Jim Ladd interviewed you in 1984 as well. It was a great interview. At least we can share fond memories of Jim, because you're very wrong about the Israeli situation. Israel has been defending itself from a barbaric group of people who've been trying to slaughter them. To say otherwise, is unconscionable. 💖
