Zvezda = defensive monster! With 1 good shooter more which could upgrade Zvezda's ofense they could easely reach top8 this year...

Great work! By taking a look at the defensive concepts and performance of Zvezda, I really appreciate the level of intensity, physicality and team approach by all players. But as the season goes on, the two way character of a team is a required factor. Olympiakos of 2015 and 2017 was a fine example of a great defensive team, with very clear yet predictable offensive concepts (hard P'N'R orientation & set plays with certain productivity). To conclude, Zvezda will give hell of effort, although it won't be enough against more talented teams offensively, especially with guards that can exploit such physicality by going to the free throw line for easy points. That's my guess at least :)
Thank you! I have a similar view. They will win against teams of their category at home because of their defense (kept ASVEL yesterday again at 67 - their average), compete against higher level teams and might STEAL some games but in away matches they simply lack offensive power to win and be elite team.
@@AugustasSuliauskas Great video, Augustus, not only for Red Star fans. Very informative and observant. When it comes to Red Star chances to utilise better offense it is important to mention that we still didn't complete our roster. We have just signed Stefan Markovic who can help a lot in setting up better offensive moves because he is much better and faster passer than Volters and Ivanovic. Aron White, who is projected to be main point contributor from the frontcourt, is still recovering from injury and will probably join the team at the end of November. We are also in market for one more big guy in a paint, I wouldn't be surprised if Mathias Lessort join the team. Of course, having in mind the budget, these will not be 1-tier players (although, as a Lithuanian you know what Aron can do inside a precise system), but they are certainly reasonably reliable players who can improve weak spots in Red Star roster.
Now, when it comes to results, these roster additions may mean nothing significant but will certainly improve our chances. In Covid-19 times the name of the game is depth of the roster and it will unfortunately impact the effectiveness and performance of all Euroleague teams. Therefore, I like chances of the teams that don't have one or two extra players that teams live or die on them, because one or two infections of these extra players in and unfortunate time may severely effect performance of their squads.
@@AugustasSuliauskas That is my opinion too, it will depend how deep competition this year will be, if its gonna be anything close like last year we have no chance. We need good teams to be good whole season, and not have Efes, Fener and Bayern make mid season come back. Team is playing good, we are still in market for combo guard/scorer and starting center and Stefan Markovic just joined, Ivanovic was projected to be scoring guard too but he started season really slowly he was fine yesterday. But all our players need to play to their potential for us to have chance at top 8

@@goranlojancic8420 Thank you Goran! Definitely Zvezda still has room for improvement, especially on offense with White coming back and maybe a potential signing (?). It's just that Euroleague is a cruel league: you have to be over .500 to make the playoffs, meaning winning close to all home games and some away. And I'm not sure Zvezda is that level as of yet but I think they can be fighting for that spot. Who doesn't love an underdog story with great great defense coming out on top! (you may have heard this story couple years ago somewhere in Europe, ehm, Kaunas) haha

I would not call Zvezda's players "low talent", coach Radonjić purposely picked expert defenders! That is just his playing style. On the other hand, tight defense drains lot of energy, so shooting percentages are lower than average but it was calculated risk, since it is made up by turnovers and fast breaks a.k.a. "easy baskets"! Last week, Zvezda easily defeated best offense in Euroleague-Asvell, so that answers a question which side of game is more important for win!

That is what we call in Serbia basic defense, redirect ball to non-shooting players, stress ball handler not just to shave some seconds but literary to exhaust him fast (he need every atack double effort to bring over the ball), fauls when that fails... I am surprised just that this is played out also by non-Serbian players, because there is a huge diferance, Serbian players learn this from preschool, for instance, Kalinić is well known in Europe for his "defensive agressivness" through out his carrier, it is surprising foreign palyers fitted in that play-sistem so good (because it doesn't work if all 5 players don't play it synchronised, and I am sure that kind of play is not learned everywhere, at least not as basic way...).

Well, just waitin' for Aaron White to join the team after hes injury, and that's all we need...in the preseason games (just check statistics) White was constantly at 20+ pts and 10+ rbs...just wait and you'll see Red Star brilliance in offence also...plus, so far 13 players were injured or have COVID...slowly, they're recovering now, and you'll see a lot of Red Star wins, it's not just Aaron White, it is also Ivanovic, Dobric, Davidovac, Markovic...when they all return - NO ONE could possibly save you from losing a game against Red Star - especially in Belgrade !!!

I am not here to be condescending but when you declare some player to be best in a team solely based on stats and shooting percentage it makes me feel like you dont really know what is going on.
The video was not about Wolters so I didn't go deep into why he is their best player (cause that would take another 10 min), only mentioned some of his stats that are most impressive. His 2P% is extraordinary for a guard.
But Nate is our best player in Euroleague this season, Kalinic is close second.

@@Komar45 Yea, there is a tendency in Euroleague: more players are payed, the less defense they play.... This kind of defense are physically exhausting, you need to be "hungry" to play it from game to game with same intensity :D

Zvezda has a budget of 8.3 milion the smallest number in the EuroLeague. Barcelona for example has the most with 41 milion.
