    The fact this woman is literally drawing her last breaths to deliver a performance as great as this is so sad and inspiring at the same time. You can feel she’s in total pain but still fighting. May you rest in peace Karen, the generations you’ve inspired are forever grateful.

I don't understand how on the solo album they criticized her stating she was singing too high but has anyone listened to the solo album? It's good to hear Karen singing live; though she was terribly ill at the time, it IS good to see her as well. But sadly, I mostly see pain (especially if you freeze it @ 0.38)...nothing but pain when I look in her beautiful brown - but hollowed-out - eyes: the pain from her aborted solo album that no one in her inner circle supported, the pain from her marriage to that scoundrel she wed, and most significantly, the pain from a lifetime of "not being as good as her brother" in her mother's opinion which led her to the state she's in during this performance.
    Karen, you angel...you deserved so much more. I hope you're happy wherever you are now.

      i honestly believe if she lived in current times that she would still be alive. as bad as the internet can be, i wish she could read some of the things people who admire her write online. it was probably harder to hear these kinds of things back then. not to mention the body positivity movement and advancements in help for eating disorders and promotion of therapy and getting emotional help + shifting focus away from the idea a woman has to have a husband and kids to be happy. watching these old videos makes me nostalgic for those times (although i wasn’t alive then) but it also is a complicated feeling because that time also failed karen in so many ways.

    • @captainfantastic9158
      @captainfantastic9158 Před 2 lety +9

      @@RozuHanabiraProjectx It's interesting to note that since Karen was born in the McCarthy era of "a woman's place is in the kitchen and raising the kids," her main goal in life was to INDEED be in the kitchen and raise kids...despite being an ultra-successful performer and the literal voice of a generation. And of course, that was reinforced by her family and everyone around her. The few times she TRIED to be independent, everyone - from Agnes Carpenter on down - pulled her back to the unit where she slowly suffocated.
      They were more interested in controlling her than in actually helping her.

      @j.c.b6473 Před 3 lety +6

      Because of her brother's huge ego. He'd sabotaged her solo album and pushed her to perform with him when clearly she was unable. She should've been in a hospital, not struggling to sing. And why these last performances weren't lip synch when she was so good at it is beyond me. Her family was creepy, dysfunctional, and only worried about their meal ticket.

    • @billparthum206
      @billparthum206 Před 3 lety +6

      @@j.c.b6473 Agree she should have been in at least a supervised program to regain her strength and stamina. However, more and more it seems that she had a problem that was kept hidden from public view. Everyone who writes or videos autopsies denies it, but Karen probably had diabetes. After all, her blood sugar was 1110 and was ruled the cause of her death by the Downey Community Hospital, where she passed. She had dinner with her folks the night before and didn't consume a high sugar meal. If not for the disease she would have needed an injection of glucose to drive her sugar so high. Diagnosed or not, the poor woman needed help and no one noticed? Or did no one care?

      @White Violet I’m 1000% sure her problems started very early on. Healthy-minded adults are able to see criticism and pay no mind to it. Since she was a child, she had been made fun of for her weight, and she probably never developed a great self esteem. There was even a story of childhood bullies calling her fat. She was “pleasingly plump” as Richard has called it. Her mother was obviously quite critical of everything, and I believe everyone in their family was a perfectionist in some way. Even the Carpenters sound was based on vocal and musical perfection. Critical households (whether that’s against people outside or inside the household) usually end up with their kids having mental health issues, especially eating disorders. The lack of control in her career and and personal life, including everything from not being able to date who she wanted to not being able to put out an album on her own put her over the edge.

    It was good to see this. I love how she was looking so modern going into the 80s. I love her stage presence and her facial expressions. She seems really tired here as her voice doesn't sound as strong as usual. But I also enjoyed how great that mic sounds. I love the presence so clear in the audio quality of the vocal. But I' am sad watching the video. I just want to reach out and hug her and stop what was ahead. 😢

    Karen still sounds great in this performance but her illness had taken its toll on her. Still very sad after all these years & Richard looking a million dollars. He certainly beat his addiction by this point & it shows. Only sorry Karen couldn't see her problem & got better as well. It's always wonderful to hear her voice but upsetting too coz we'll never hear anymore new songs from this brother & sister team.

Karen Carpenter had a lot of talent and she could sing disco and 1980s style music beautifully. It is sad that she is gone😢, but I know she is in Heaven🙏💛💛🌈💐💐 singing with Olivia Newton John💐💐 wish I could have met Karen Carpenter when I was a Child.

      It certainly is! A while ago Olivia Newton John declared that two Deceased Singers accompanied her during her Shows. Initially she didn't want to say the names but later confessed that they were Karen Carpenter and John Denver. Death does not exist! So I also believe she is now together with her friend Olivia and John! Much peace and light to them!

    It's bittersweet watching this knowing she only had a year and a half left to live. But even in her frail condition, she belted it out and had outstanding stage presence. Her death was tragic. But she put a name on eating disorders and who knows how many lives were saved after learning her story.
