  • David Seymour says New Zealand is not a rich country, and wants to make it government policy to view policy decisions through a productivity lens. Read more: surl.li/kukvr | Subscribe: bit.ly/2JPg8oB
This was instead of identity, the Treaty, and the climate - which he claims the government currently emphasised.
He wanted to set an explicit target for New Zealand to be in the 10 fastest-growing economies in the OECD and to introduce a range of productivity-boosting policies to boost productivity growth.

NZ politicians keep talking about productivity and not realising this is about yield because of the size of our market not to do with workers effort and efficiency.
You do the same work to make a sale in Australia and you make a sale 10x bigger than in NZ. You make a product and you get 10x the orders.
These guys are idiots and know nothing about business!

Big yes to foreign investment in businesses, both existing or new. A big NO to foreign 'investors' parking their money in our housing. The reason everyone only sees housing as the only investment game in NZ is because there's nothing else that compares. So we need to make business investment a much more attractive option otherwise NZ will continue to be a place where housing is the only game in town.

Importing labour has an effect on pension liability . It can increase demographic to be lopsided.
Lots arrive as 35 plus. So, they have not contributed to the super fund for 15 years. It creates housing supply and public health services issues.

Totally agree; Productivity & Innovation is the only way to grow smarter; Innovation is process of Change that adds Value.....It can make the work Place Safer, It can mean we do the same this cheaper without diminishing Value, it can mean that we can discover intellectual property, through a Patent, Copyright, Design Mark, etc through Continual Improvement Innovation or Breakthrough Innovation.
New Zealand used to be up there with the Scandinavian Countries and the reason why we have slipped so much down the table of GDP Per Capita Rankings is due to low investments in Gerd and Berd. GERD is Government investment in R&D and Business Investment in R&D.
Our Patents Per Capita are also well below par. David is so right in his statement.

Im retired now and will not go back to work as I cannot work for the new style of management. " WOKE ", middle management grows and wont do anything. They play table tennis most of the day. Nobody wants to work. Its drifted into the factory floor now. The people doing the work are getting hammered by the boss and will move to Aussie soon.

All good points. Consider just one, that of skill development. We have confused knowledge with skill. Knowledge is an understanding, perhaps of a concept. Skilll is the ability to execute. One needs only to reflect on the ability of our current Government to spout all the answers to articulated problems without any ability to resolve anything. It could well be a mis-match between actual and perceived cause and effect. Quite often people who know everything but cannot do anything suffer from this. When executing, skill demonstrates conpetence, knowledge alone often reflects a case of cognitive dissonance, ignorance, and (consequently) false logic. Theory will only take you so far...😊

If he wants to target productivity, he's going to have to completely reject New Zealand businesses, who prefer to rely on cheap labour rather than organise themselves to become more efficient. That's going to go over like a lead balloon.

For NZ to get productivity we need to move away completely from being a Welfare State & removing such things as working for families $ The Dole, Solo mother’s benefits & state housing as NZ can I’ll afford & this money redirected to upgrading Our Health sector Education & Infrastructure.
A new simple tax structure, the removal of Personal Tax, Gst, Company Tax & in its place a basic 2-3% transaction Tax applicable to all esp Financial Institutions, Banks etc.
NZ would flourish & be able to attract high tech companies like Amazon, Intel, Apple etc whilst growing our small family run businesses which would blossom.
Inland Revenue costing Billions would go ( accountants & Tax lawyers also as produce nothing)
In addition large charitable Trusts like Tainui Sanitarium etc would have this status removed and be made to pay the same as all others & hence not giving these multi million dollar companies the current advantage they presently have over there competitors.
Be Bold Act or just be another National Lite.

Nah, I still dont like him, he just sounds like a National Politician, unrelatable even though he is well-rehearsed... not once connecting with the average man and the majority if voters. Labour demonstrates Empathy and the Economy, which is his dominant rhetoric even though his fear mongering about a "crashing economy", has long since proven to be false, and the economy today has begun to bounce back again, like they said it would after covid. House prices have begun to rise again, already... after such a short period! Unfortuantely, all the shade he threw at Labour, while they were having a multitude of horrific incidents and a pandemic to contend with, put me off him for life. We were well protected by their leadership during covid and anybody who disagrees with me, I can guarantee, would have had many more, even worse things to say about Labour, had Labour hung us all out to dry, resulting in many more deaths, that would have been far more impacting to us, than being asked to simply lockdown for a few weeks. As for the house prices... yeah every politician promises a solution but none deliver. Economies are simply not set up like that and as long as he is pandering to the National Elites, like he has been doing in this interview, do not think for one minute, he cares about your issues... he only cares about Business not people. Dont be distracted by those politicians, who have no empathy towards others, if all they care about is the Economy, then they are likely not going to help you, the average man, at all. .
