- On December 5, 2023 in Miami, Florida, the suspect fled from a mental health facility and stole a van from a car dealership where the keys were left inside. The chase intensified as the suspect drove on the wrong side of the road, weaved through traffic, and entered Interstate 95.

He had finesse, just doesn't work well against a vehicle that weighs 4,938 to 6,228 lbs compared to the FHP unit weight of 4,217 . That was the largest Mercedes Sprinter van, likely making deliveries at the Toyota dealership, with cargo weight in it too.
Everyone thinks doing a TVI is a cruise in the park. I drove stockcars for a couple of decades, we didn't do TVIs-most of the time-but bump and run on those that won't give way running much slower. Yes, a TVI happened once in a while, turn em up the hill into the fence. It's a fine line with practiced skill to do so, and to not take yourself out too.

its not really a weight issue, its the high of the vehicle, other cars have a low center of gravity but that has a very high center of gravity, hitting it down low isnt going to do a whole lot as hitting it farther up the body@@Ray56z
This vid proves 2 things.
1. Ankle monitors aren't worth sheet.
2. More departments need the Grappler.
Or RPG's.
The grappler is very expensive, and needs reloading per use. Most PITs end very quickly and cheaply for the cop cars, they're reinforced to do it.
Grappler isn't as good as you think. You're basically tangled with the suspect. If the suspect opens fire, where are you going to go when you're tethered?

The difference is how Arkansas “terminates” their chases, compared to how California terminates theirs.
Florida has been doing a great job of studying the Arkansas Playbook.

That was a ford Transit van, not a dodge sprinter. That ford was tougher than i thought it would be and I'm a ford fan, but i have driven a sprinter with the diesel engine in it and i have to say that thing ran great. It didn't handle the best but it was ok going down the highway
