Florida Sheriff Wild Pursuit Ends with PIT

- Police Report: On Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at approximately 16:58 hours, I responded to Mile Marker 144 Northbound on Interstate 95 for an agency assist.
Dispatch informed me that the Jupiter Police Department was tracking an attempted murder suspect accused of stabbing a physician. I was notified that the suspect was heading north on Interstate 95 and nearing Indian River County. It was also relayed that there was probable cause concerning the suspect.
The suspect was identified as a white male, Nicholas Parchesco, driving a white Lexus sedan with the Florida license plate DAGA17.
Positioned at Mile Marker 144, I spotted a white Lexus fitting the given description. As it drew closer, I recognized the driver to be the registered vehicle owner, Parchesco.
I began following north on Interstate 95. Parchesco suddenly accelerated, weaving in and out of traffic lanes and dangerously overtaking other vehicles. By the time I reached Mile Marker 147 northbound, my agency-issued, marked "Sheriff" Police Pursuit Vehicle had its lights and sirens activated. Despite this, Parchesco kept evading, recklessly overtaking other cars and even using the road shoulder, reaching speeds of over 130 mph. His erratic behavior persisted as we continued north.
Near the Vero Beach Exit, Deputy Peach attempted a rolling roadblock in the fast lane due to the traffic congestion up ahead. As Deputy Peach started to slow down, Parchesco hastily changed to the center lane, trying to overtake Deputy Peach. The two vehicles then collided as Peach was executing his maneuver.
By the Fellsmere Interstate Exit, our team successfully deployed a spike strip, puncturing one of Parchesco's tires. Despite the flat tire, he persisted in trying to escape from three pursuing marked agency vehicles. With his tire rendered undrivable, Parchesco's speed decreased significantly. He then tried to cross the median at Mile Marker 158 to head south but was thwarted by a PIT maneuver executed by deputies.
Parchesco was subsequently apprehended. The Jupiter PD, having jurisdiction over the stabbing incident, arrived on the scene.
Deputy Deleon escorted Parchesco to CID, after which he was taken to The Indian River County Jail for processing. Parchesco faced charges of "Flee & Elude at High Speed" under F.S.S. 316.1935(3)(a) (Citation: AIH97AE).

Dozens of clueless idiots setting up camp in the fast lane and NOBODY pays attention or yields to emergency vehicles. "Move to the right for sirens and lights" has morphed into "freeze in place and smash the brakes". And you certainly don't wanna hit another vehicle because you'll be betting against the odds the other driver doesn't have a valid license OR insurance. But we all know how to call personal injury attorneys - there's an ad every 9 seconds.

Police Departments should pull license plate numbers from the videos and start ticketing people for not moving for emergency vehicles.

one of the more stupidest things i see in these videos are the amount of motorists who jam on their brakes when a police car is approaching behind them at high speed. That has to be the dumbest and most dangerous thing you can do. The amount of near misses in rear enders because they suddenly almost come to a stand still on a free way is incredible.

Someone needs to make it possible for LE with dash cameras to take a photo while heading to hot calls of tags on vehicles that don’t move over and then they can be sent tickets.

these officers knew what they were doing ..! at the end of the chase, one of them positioned his car against the passenger door, then immediately ran to another squad and open a door and used it as protection against gun fire! Great team work

Most drivers think a rear view mirror is for looking up their rear, so ignore it.
I've been known to pull over when the siren was nowhere near me just because I'm not sure where it is coming from, I'd rather err on the side of caution than cause a first responder to be held back. People need to move immediately!

With dash cams to day ( something we did not have back then ) I would think a citation or citations could be issued after reviewing the film.

It isn't simply a matter of getting out of the way of emergency vehicles. Drivers have no business being in the passing lane UNLESS they are passing another vehicle. If the Highway Patrol were to actually enforce the law and conduct traffic stops (and issue citations) for lolly-gagging and Sunday driving in the passing lane, then this issue might begin to diminish.
They need to review the dash cam footage, and identify the plate numbers of the people who were driving with their heads in their ass, and did not yield to the officers lights and move out of the way, and issue them all a ticket for that !! It is truly sad that so many seem to drive in la la land oblivious to what is taking place around them, it would also be nice if Florida would pass a law that puts 1 year without parole, for every miles a driver travels trying to elude law enforcement, on top of the charge of eluding law enforcement, keeping those stupid enough to try to elude, locked up in a cage for a very long time where they belong !!!! Thank God nobody in law enforcement or the public were hurt in the pursuit of this idiot.

Those Tahoe's never even slowed down going through that ditch water. The 160 MPH Police Chargers are nice but we probably would have seen 6 of them get stuck in that water
The Tahoe is one of the best available police cars on the market. If they would offer the bigger 6.2 in it, it would be every bit as quick as the Exploder turbos but built on a truck frame.
The suspect was able to get across in a car with a blown rear tire. I am sure Chargers would also get across just fine like the suspect.

It seems to me - just seems, mind you - that if a Lexus can outrun a police cruiser, then the chief honcho cops might consider throwing away the rubber bands and providing their ground staff with vehicles powered by an actual engine. A big one. A revolutionary concept I know but there is the remote possibility that dangerous pursuits could be shortened?

Should be a Federal Law all vehicles must have a visual and audio warning device in their vehicle that is activated by any nearby emergency vehicles.

Frankly, if you're blocking emergency personnel from getting to their call because you're too inattentive or just plain stupid to get out of the way, you should get at least a ticket, probably a misdemeanor for obstruction. The latter would apply if you prevent a cop from chasing a suspect on foot, I don't see why this should be any different in a car. If you don't see/hear the sirens from a half mile away and fail to make room, you shouldn't be operating a motor vehicle anyways. I guess it is FL though so that applies to about half the drivers there anyways.
