- On December 19, 2023, an FHP trooper received a call for assistance from the St. Johns Sheriff's Office regarding a blue Cadillac suspected of grand theft. The deputy requested backup for a potential traffic stop around mile marker 312 on I-95 southbound. Upon arrival, the trooper joined the pursuit, taking the lead position with activated lights and sirens, after the blue Cadillac aggressively accelerated away from law enforcement units.

I am continuously dismayed by the people who don't speed up so they can get out of the way. Why the first reaction to seeing flashing lights flying up behind a person is to hit the brakes is beyond me. Proof of how mindless the average person is.
You should be used to being continuously dismayed. Look at the heavy traffic, with a continuous line of cars going 5 or 10 mph faster than the continuous slower line in the right lane. Now, introduce a number of police cars going double the speed of the passing vehicles. Next, let some pass on the left shoulder and some on the right shoulder. Add in the fact that you cannot see them because there are anywhere from zero to 15 cars behind you, and the fact that you don't have the ability to predict the future or watch behind you continuously, and the problem starts to become less dismaying. For the sake of argument, let's say the last car in the passing lane sees blue lights behind him coming up at, oh..., 130 miles per hour, and immediately speeds up or slows down rapidly to squeeze in between two semis. Hopefully, but not realistically, everyone else on the road are mind-linked to this driver and not listening to a mindfulness podcast or watching a video or participating in a Zoom meeting while drinking coffee, putting on makeup and vaping nicotine or other chemicals and can instantly adjust their driving to accommodate the sudden speed and lane change. Immediately, the next car ahead in the passing lane can see the approaching police vehicles, which are 1100 feet closer than they were to the previous last car in line and can similarly make the needed adjustment in speed and lane change, only much faster, you know, because they are much closer. Meanwhile, the sudden and abrupt lane changes cause vehicles in the slower lane to brake heavily with subsequent cars braking progressively harder until everyone is sliding on 4, 6, 8, 12 or 18 wheels. Some will “irrationally” swerve into the adjacent lane to avoid hitting the locked-up vehicle in front of them, at which point, a cruiser going 130 miles per hour slams into them, killing their entire family and causing a 20-car pileup, proving, indeed, how mindless the average person is, especially when compared with those around them seemingly unencumbered by the realities of physics, time, speed, inertia, and human unpredictability. 😃

Most people have an initial reaction of slowing down, because they are afraid that cop is coming for them.
It’s illegal to speed, there’s no law to say it’s ok to speed to move out of the way for law enforcement
@blauskie they definitely were not going faster by 5 to 10 mpg in the passing lane.....that white work truck had a cop behind him for atleast 15 second .....and he was going the same speed as semi in right lane.....no reason to be in left lane unless PASSING someone.....and that means pass them not 66mph while traffic in right lane is going 65mph......nothing but SELFISH SNOW BIRDS causing all the traffic around Florida......there's only traffic from Nov to April.....then its non existent. .....

Florida's a great state but among the worst at traffic flow: keeping to the right except to pass. It's noticeable throughout the footage. It's these same police failing to enforce it and paying the price.
