2023 DS3 E-Tense Review: An electric car too far?

- The DS3 E-Tense electric crossover has been refreshed for 2023 with some subtle exterior upgrades and improvements to its battery and range.
The battery capacity is now 54kWh, an improvement of 4kWh over the outgoing model, giving a WLTP official range of 250 miles from a single charge. The electric motor has also been revised to produce more power at 154bhp.
In this CarGurus UK review, Rebecca Jackson puts the updated DS3 E-Tense to the test, exploring its practicality, technology, equipment and driving dynamics. Can it hope to compete against the increasing number of other small electric crossovers, many of which share its underpinnings?

At £43K I’d rather save a little bit more for the Kia EV6 which comes well equipped as standard. Or the Kia Niro EV and still save some money.

43k 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You would have to be absolutely insane.
8 months later and you can find these for less than 15k with low miles. This car depreciated almost as bad as a Masseratti.
I’ll just keep driving my 15 year old Mazda .It does all this car does and is still ulez compliant

A great quick review Rebecca. I love the quirky style if this car along with some signature touches like the switches etc. Some quirks as you mention may go a tad too far though. At the asking price there are many other options that arguably offer a more for the money. As for family car space it's lacking if you have older children or pets. It'll also be interesting how residual values compare to others for used cars. Personally for my needs it could be worth a look but I'd be bananas to consider one new. Another point is at over 40K retail cost the tax would be very expensive for the first 5 years on the road. If I recall correctly special dealer deals won't count.
There are so many stylish French cars for sale at the moment, but this was never one. That B Pillar just ruins the lines.
Yet another great review from Rebecca. Shocking car, but really interesting and informative review. I’ve always thought Rebecca needs to be on mainstream TV, more so than “i want that car”. Can’t think of any TV or steaming journalists with her pedigree that are anywhere near as interesting.
Like the colour but otherwise no way at that or any price. It is just trying to hard styling wise. Think how small the original DS3 was.
I absolutely love this car but £37k asking price is too high… really disappointing that this car won’t get the sales it deserves due to that high starting price. Compare this to the bigger MG4 with a bigger range and costs £10k less - it’s no wonder the MG4 is selling so well.
The only one of those sold in north america is the Jeep, and that's nothing to brag about. you're lucky if it spends more time in your garage than the dealer's. none of them are worth the money, no matter which side of the pond you're on.💯💥
I had the previous model, it's a great car but the issue was its range, I have barely reached 250KM with it. But it looks like the newer model has more range so maybe it's worthwhile.
The lack of rear space will kill its sales , add the price and the competition within £50 a month more or less pcp payment each month and you really need to be a fan of its design and badge to buy one.
It's official. The global automotive market has devolved to the point where SUVs don't even have to be practical for people to buy them.

She's right about the price at £43K .... shocking! Here's the thing though , I was looking on Autotrader a couple of weeks ago and DS3 Opera models, pre registered with delivery mileage only, were being advertised for under £26K. What the hell does that tell you about where residual values are heading for full electric cars?
All electric cars are seeing insane depreciation at the moment. Even desirable models like Tesla have prices sinking like a rock. Great time to buy a second hand one with low miles.
The entire market of luxury crossing is the problem
Cars are so expensive now for no reason. The top spec ds4 fully kitted out at the moment is about 50 grand. That's about 10 grand more than a new mercedes e class coupe was 5 years ago
Years ago everyone was saying how much cheaper EV's are to build. No engine meant all you needed was to slap in the batteries and motors and bingo. Instant car. Prices will fall they said. Looks like car companies are charging an EV tax.
Doesn't seem to be a car worth the price given it's abilities, looks okay but not worth the money compared to rivals.
I would rather drive DS3 than Tesla in all cases

After reading all that, sounds like a failed firmware update to me. By the user. Who then rushes into dealership to have it done by someone who is minimally IT/Tech savvy. All those symptoms described are in manuals and forums as a result of a badly implemented firmware update.
I've a ice DS4 cost me a lot less its around £16000 overpriced.
I'd just go for a petrol one

Apparently, a good car to buy...but it is not...
Kia EV6 for me every day of the week. This car is too expensive, compromised and with little appeal in my opinion.
