DS3 - Pricey, but posh!

- DS Automobiles have revised their entry level DS 3 to make it even better than when we first drove it a few years back. That has, however, pushed the price up. But, premium doesn't come cheap, and DS want you to see them as being a very premium, French brand. Have they done enough to elevate their standing in the marketplace from posh Citroen to a proper BMW, Mercedes and Audi rival? We revisit their only EV offering to find out.

I think it's going to be Champagne all round in the backroom every time they shift one at the dealers.
A basic Stallantis platform dressed up to look "posh" Even a Dacia Duster has gas struts. It offers nothing different than the other models from this stable other than a crazy price.
As someone who owns an Elixir Red Peugeot e208 (best colour IMHO) I can’t really see any reason to buy one of these at a £5K premium. however given the massive depreciation expected it might be a good used buy in a couple of years but then again so is the e208 now. Still think anyone who pays £40k for an EV Supermini needs their head examining.
As hard as you tried, I can see absolutely nothing to get this car onto my shopping list.
All the current Stellantis electric offerings are compromised by their multi-fuel platform. Throwing in some extra sound-proofing and jacking up the price in return is not tempting me. A classic "fur coat, no knickers" offering.
I did love my old DS3 supermini (the early edition, which was priced to undercut things such as the mini), though it became a money-pit to maintain after the warranty ran out.
Very fair and honest review that highlights the only reason really why someone would buy the DS3 is either that person hasn't researched properly what the competition offers or is an avid fan of Citroen's and only a DS3 will do.
Thank you for your kind comment.
Always enjoy your reviews the DS3 in Elixir red looks very nice a bit different. Initially Inthought DS was just a posh expensive Citroen so maybe I should keep an open mind. I do like something different and have always loved the big classic Citroens certainly stands out from the German brands. Second hand or a pre reg this becomes a bargain, don’t forget electric Corsa and 500 are all mid thirties on price.

Got the original version. Can"t agree more , its a special little car. Drove 250 miles in a day last week and it was much more comfortable than a Tesla Model 3. Look past it"s shortcomings and you will fall in love for ever.
Id say you could add that to the list for Worst car of the year 2023, thanks as allways though for your indepth reviews.
I sat in one the other day, and you are right, not everyone will like tye interior, including me unfortunately. Looked a bit disjointed for me.
Similar price range to a Kia Niro EV and is nothing in comparison. Also compare to Volvo EX30. You could have a 420bhp supermini 2.5K less than top of range of DS3
Yes, looks a bit cramped possibly due to ICE architecture. Wait for end of season deals/pre-reg discounts on low mileage cars. WLTP always taken with a pinch of salt. When they get a new model out in a couple of years...great, but affordable, when that is?
Great Review , but would rather have my kia niro 4 , which I've ordered
IMHO there is no way this can be called a family car. To many things against it, boot space, rear passengers room etc oh and the price.
That design kick on the front of the rear doors serves absolutely no purpose, overpriced is an understatement. To get anywhere near 250miles it would have to do 4.6 m/kwh, maybe it's the rear kick that makes this possible.
Like the colour, sorry that’s it.
If you want a good French EV, go for the Renault Megane E-Tech.
Expensive too btw.
Atm both brands are high up in pricing.
Posh pricing for sure.
the new Kona or the new Small Volvo, are going to leave this for dead. if you want quirky buy a #1. stay away from this...
oh dear, pretty terrible....
