In Pakistan Industries have to pay fixed charges for Power they have been registered for, called MDI charges. This type of setup can be helpful if you are authorised for using low power [say 10 15 kW] and you have to operate machines for couple of hours whose combined load is far much higher than allowed [say 50KW]. This setup can be helpful in this scenario and it doesn't save electricity. But the way industries are billed there, they can save good money.
How is it that none of the commentators have addressed the fact that they apparently scrapped a DIESEL ENGINE and are using an ELECTRIC MOTOR to turn a GENERATOR to do what????? Make “MORE” electricity????? These folks make the coolest stuff………and they apparently create power out of…….NOTHING!

Exactly. Without knowing the specs on the equipment who knows? They might even just be trying to clean up the power for their welders or something. 75kw isn't a monumental amount of power for a big shop like this. edit: At the end they imply it's running the shop. All that makes sense is it's there to clean up the power. But unless that's a 100hp plus motor they are not getting 75kw out of the system. That motor looks 50 - 60 hp(ish).

That is a mechanica;l converter from AC to DC, probably for welding or speed controll small motors with DC voltage. Why not direct coupling to reduce loos in the belts?
This is not a mechanical converter from alternating current to direct current. If you look closely at 1:50, you will see the three phases of the generator, and this is how three-phase alternating current comes out. The whole setup is pure bullshit just to get money from Google, in fact it is just a scam.
Well if you are stealing your electricity I suppose such an inefficient voltage stabiliser running off flywheel energy storage makes sense instead of paying for diesel to run the generator. Here in darkest Africa we would use electronics for frequency or voltage changes to run second hand imported heavy machinery.

@@user-vq4nw2du2r - The motor and the generator were all 3 phase (count the leads). No capacitors on the motor either (so not single phase). The flywheel in the middle adds rotational mass, allowing a larger inrush current without stalling an engine driven generator (etc). Used to work for a place about 20 years ago and we made these! Of course, ours were a little more... uhhh... finished. ;)

The prolonged acceleration time will fry the drive motor! There is no need for the flywheel anyway if using an electric motor it is only used to damp out vibrations caused by a diesel or petrol motor drive. I can't see the point of the whole exercise they have a 3 phase supply already.
No, he had three wires going into the machine, not two wires. Might have been for a higher voltage, higher frequency (unlikely), or for surge suppression to stay under their max surge amperage for starting.

If you put in 10kwatts of Energy (Power) nto a fly wheel, it is likely you may only get out 9kw, the other 1kw is lost through friction in belts and bearings. If it took 15minutes for that 10kw energy to get in, then it may take similar amount of time for that 9kw to get out, it will not run any longer than that time it took for it to put all that 10kw in.
