@CarolinaRealEstateGuide selfishness and greed make it hard for airbnb'ers to see how this hurts the majority of home buyers. Everyone thinks they can level up and be rich. Unfortunately there is only so much to go around. I'll admit they need to go after coorporate real estate investors first.
Home owners should sue state to treat them like criminals. This law won’t fix state problems with homelessness and expensive cost of living and housing. They allowed private corporation to scoop up land put up high rise buildings and ok with it. The local and homeless still cannot afford to living there so what is the problem with private home owner earning extra income with their private property? This gangster style controlling the hood is wrong.
Hotels donate to political parties and have strong lobbying power. Individuals just wanting to make profit will never get the same protection or responses from the government.
The state passing laws that no one knows, goes to show you that people super busy here. System rig people in with them 30 yr loans ; to busy to pay and not enough time to listen to what is happening with laws; I've always seen this as a problem of not owning a home right away.
If you are renting out a room in your house I totally support you, but if you own multiple properties and are running it as an illegal hotel using housing that was originally for locals then I have no sympathy.
Good. These rentals have destroyed the housing market for Hawaii citizens. These are homes that locals should have been purchasing for their families at far lower prices. Not to be capitalized on by mainland investors.
Many locals/Hawaii residents do short-term rentals as well. Why should Hawaii residents get lower prices for homes in Hawaii? That sounds a lot of entitlement. You make it sound like every Hawaii resident is entitled to a house in Hawaii when they are not and ignoring the laws of supply and demand. Lots of Hawaii residents are leaving Hawaii so should other states set the prices for their homes at a much higher price for Hawaii residents? Because it seems like many Hawaii residents cheer for higher prices for mainlanders but would whine if mainlanders set higher prices for Hawaii residents. If the cost of a house in Hawaii is much higher for mainlanders than Hawaii residents, then it is better to sell that house to a mainlander to get more money. Just saying. The situation with the housing market in Hawaii is largely a result of Hawaii residents' own doing. Yes, mainlanders buy homes in Hawaii, but most of the buyers and sellers of homes in Hawaii are Hawaii residents who set these "high prices" that poorer Hawaii residents whine about and want to blame the mainlanders. They need to look in the mirror. Hawaii residents are also the ones selling houses to mainlanders. Hawaii residents are also quickly populating this small, tiny island with limited space and resources. While mainlanders do come to reside in Hawaii, you have to also see that families in Hawaii make lots of babies, many that they cannot afford and have to rely on government assistance. This requires constant development of high rises in Hawaii while also producing more homeless and mental illness in Hawaii and more people leaving Hawaii. The cost of living is going through the roof because we rely heavily on imported goods. There will be winners and losers in this world.
Out of state and out of country buyers have artificially driven up the hoMe prices. And it’s starting to fall now. Hawaiian families can’t afford to pay millionaire investment prices

@@johnfrombrm. I mean, it is not like Hawaii residents artificially drive up the home prices in other states too, right? It's only a problem when mainlanders artificially drive up Hawaii's home prices, right? lol. You know, Hawaii residents drive up the prices too. It is mostly Hawaii residents who are the ones selling the houses (and also buying the houses). Lots of Hawaii residents are able to buy a house in Hawaii. Who are the ones who cannot afford a home in Hawaii? How many of them have an advanced STEM degree or served the military (honorably)? How many of them have a job that is highly in-demand (ie. doctor, lawyer, nurse anesthetists, epidemiologists, data scientists, etc.)? Because I look around in Hawaii and most people are lazy, unmotivated, ignorant, and work in dead-end jobs with no desire to do more with their lives but have a high level of entitlement. Your argument is suggesting that mainlanders are able to pay "millionaire investment prices" while Hawaii residents cannot. If that statement is true then perhaps maybe reflect on why that is. Perhaps first look at Hawaii's government and Hawaii residents and what they are doing. You get what you vote for.

Didn’t you know? You don’t need a green card or anything at that!! Just cross the border with all the illegal immigrants and you’ll be greeted with a plane ride, housing, government assistance and a phone all paid for by American tax payers!!
Most Makaha "Gated Communities" follow the 30 day law except one AOAO that's so obvious to many they need to be called out for that and the retaliation firing of a security guard because she wasn't easy to manipulate or brainwash to lie about MBC these tourist coming and going - this self governed one bedroom condo owners with all the keys on the fence for self check-ins Roberts Overnighters they needed to be investigated but know someone in high places but nothing was investigated ever Continuously breaking the new law their location makes getting away with STVR unmonitored its done on the sly all tourist saying they're from Oahu the most outrageous thing is this is the same gated community that wanted to offer a neighborhood security watch program TALK ABOUT CRIMINAL ENTERPRISES
Well. It's a Democrat state. They need the money. You guys need to change the senator, governor, and mayor. Vote them out. Make your state flourish with tourists.
of course the phone doesn't work, what were you expecting from the government? lol
Typical state bs. No surprise their phone doesn't work. Good luck enforcing. You can't tell me what to do with my apartment.
The can't run a hotline so busting people seems out of the question. I'm sure they are great at accepting bribes though.
They purposely do this to make it hard for you and easy for hotels. While you’re running around the hotels are making record profits with less people.
Exactly
If investors could vote in the areas of the places they own these politicians would have a different tone.

The governor of Hawaii needs to be kick out of office for treating people like trash and making everyday people lives harder than what it is.
This is like the vax mandate. Alll a scam government control
Feed that donkey to the sharks

Sound like more over-regulation to me

Also, how does a penalty fee of 10 thousand dollars against rental that makes 400ish a night make any sense?

The city is trippn 🤦🏻♂️
Cleaning fee's on Airbnb getting so high hotels are now cheaper. Reversion to the mean.
I switched to another platform. Three layers of add-ons, like you said, put it into the cost of a hotel.
Turns out the people pushing these laws are all getting kickbacks from the hotels... meanwhile the locals all think these are meant to help them lol
More rules less freedom as always、
it has been hard to live on such a paradise every year.
State, city and county officials useless as usual....🤣

Ah the blame game. If they sent a notice or the forms out 6 months ago then that’s on them not the City. Am I missing something?
