- Lin Xi, a twenty-something Sichuanese girl strolls across the Chinese countryside to visit her family farm in South-West China.
On her way, she interacts with locals and foreigners, reflecting on not just structural but also lifestyle differences between urban and rural spaces.
'Walking the Chinese Countryside' is produced for CITYMAKERS | STADTMACHER - a transcultural and transdisciplinary network of inspired change makers and thinkers seeking alternative ways to liveable cities between China, Europe and beyond.
I am now 81 + 11 months and some days to 82 - I grew up with Chinese boy and girl from age of 6 - when we went to school together - All my life I have never ever been tired of listening to Chinese stories - both the experience of the story teller and the story itself are fascinating to me - Now in my old age I live in a country in South-East Asia - much closer to China - and watch Chinese video every day - Much thanks for this wonderful - practical - story - Much thanks
Having been born and raised on a farm in the U.S. I totally appreciate this beautiful and honest video. I hope to be moving to China next month and will be anxious to travel to the small farming villages and rural areas.
Visit. Don’t move
hope your successful
Wishing you all the best and please share your experience
Especially what you said in the ending was very inspirational to me. "Rural life is based on need (...)urban life is based on want. "
wow thank you for the tour
Wow! This is some quality content. Superb cinematography, excellent narration and a lovely host. Keep up the good work.
It is great to see how diferent countries face different problems, I live in the countryside of Brazil and we face lack of infrastructure but we don't have any shortage of land, in fact, most of the land is not being used.
That's interesting. Do most people live in urban areas? Here in China, not many people live in the countryside, but all the land is cultivated to feed the huge population. China also probably has less fertile land compared to Brazil.
@@anushavenkatachalam2323 Brazil is extremely rich in minerals, and unfortunately most of their land is utilised for mining....they are the second biggest country for mining iron ore, and have over 8,700 mining companies that are purely for profit, destroying native bush and the Amazon forest, which in turn destabilises the land, causing erosion. It's a shame their agricultural sector isn't utilised more, but their biggest industries are petroleum processing, automotive, cement, iron and steel production, chemical production, and aerospace.
I still enjoy the way you tell the story about how thing changed and changing in rural Sichuan, no matter how many times I watch this. Mavellous work!
What a humble pretty lady, I already like her😍🥰Thanks for these videos, I really like watching these kinds of documentaries and you got me. Your content has substance and I really love the charm it emits. More power to you
This was beautiful. My parents came from Sichuan. I can’t travel there due to covid but I experienced in this wonderful video. Thank you so much. Just wondering how this lovely lady and her cousin have such great English. Really impressive.
When I heard her speak French I just nodded and smiled. Who knows she might have a few other languages under her belt as well😅
This lady had a in-depth knowledge 🙏👍
The video is so interesting and really beatiful in his way. thanks for sharing this rural point of view from china!
Thanks for the wonderful video about rural China. So well done. And that cute, young girl Lin still displays that typical country girl manners that are actually common to many people that grew up in rural areas. The city ruins a lot of natural behavior. Wonderful.
I've been waiting for this kind of video. Thanks for sharing! I just subscribed and hit the notification bell. 😊❤️

That was about the most real video of China I have seen. Just a real girl sharing real life in her part of a diverse country. You should be proud of yourself. I loved Sichuan and will return again soon.
What an amazing video with charm, very atmospheric.
@@taylordalton1909 The changes will come. But the all changes need some time and patiance and of course the understanding why they should be done.

My ancestors are originally from Sichuan then they moved to the Philippines (and stayed since the 1800's) it's good to see the province we never had the chance to visit
Feels like home ❤️
So beautiful 😍

Hay quá
nice .. well explained.. love chinese people
hello from Switzerland
Really enjoyed this smart young chinese women's tour and commentry. I have been to China twice in 2015 and travelled mainly with local people and local hotels. I too hope that the development of tourism in the poorer areas of China can help the people without destroying the rural culture.
great job
You earned one subscriber from Nepal....I like narrator, the way she spoke English was awesome 👌👌👌
You are a very cool walker!
Rural life is like living in harmony with nature. City life is alluring but never peaceful due to chasing material wants. Good video.
I loved this video as is, including the choice of subject matter, beautiful imagery, heartwarming message and lovely way of presentation by that smart and kind young lady, Lin Xi.
So far, I have mostly only known Chengdu (plus Beijing and Xi'an) where I lived and married my beloved wife.
Thanks this video I just got motivated to explore the rural areas of Sichuan (and other provinces of China) as well, after moving back early next year.
Wonderful work Anusha, congratulations and thank you again.
😊 Make sure to also explore the Tibetan countryside of Western Sichuan.
♥️
Nice to meet you, Sichuan girl. I used to meet the man from Beijing when I visit to Fenghuang Guchen .
I will follow your channel, because one day I will come your village
When I was a kid, China had ~80% of the 10billion population lived in villages, now it's 40%, and most of the villagers are senior citizens or agriculture related workers . Thanks for this great video for showing how rural China looks like in the context of fast modernizing China. I can see the quiet and green village is now tourist destination of busy workers from noisy cities and foreign counties. Hiking and biking is our weekend activities here in the west, hopefully, the local government will plan and build roads in those villages, and reserve the beauty of nature for the coming tourist and the future generations.
she is so cute and her accent is so nice
I'm also a local person in Sichuan chengdu, but in china's high speed urbanizatiom, my old house has been dismantled when i was 3 years old, ove your vedio😊

Information.. information.. information.. Each and every second of this video has some useful information.. Wonderful compilation and good flow as well..
The name, Anusha Venkatachalam looks like an Indian -Tamil name, but what is the connection with China??
Thanks for watching! You're right, I'm a Tamilian from India who visited the Chinese countryside for the first time in 2018, as a volunteer on a farm.
I was so enamoured by the beauty of this place, I ended up living and working here.

Greetings from Sweden 😊🎉
I have a home in Chengdu where I live part of the year. This is a very interesting video and I really enjoyed watching it, Is your home town near to Mianyang?
Yes! A 40 minute drive from Mianyang.
one of the shop is mine , i shifted to Yunnan to Sichuan two years before
Oh wow, that's good to know!
i like 👍
The farmers now have nice big houses to live in.
My hometown,sichuan.
I live in east China, which is much richer than south-west China, as is shown in the video. But in the countriside, we don't have such beautiful natural landscape like that in the video. We don't have any mountain, we only have numerous rivers. We don't need to grow as a living, because we have facrories everywhere, which could offer us a decent enough salary. Since I was born, about 20 years ago, I have never seen old houses, so when I go traveling to other places, I am always interested in those old houses, actually I like the feeling they gave me.
I'm in California USA and I love the countryside living. You are just such a fabulous host. Thanks for this video. China is very beautiful. My girlfriend is from Beijing. Don't develop rural China like the cities. The balance is beautiful and necessary for healthy living. Helping the farmers with new technology can benefit them a lot. I would love to live in rural China someday. It's sooo beautiful...
The Chinese government has made "rural revitalization" a key priority in their work over the next 10 years. Think modernization of amenities, access to services and infrastructure, while striving to preserve the ecological, architectural and environmental treasures unique to each locale as much as possible. All while narrowing the income and wealth divide between urban and rural. Lofty goals to be sure, but then the Chinese hardly ever settled for less. 😄
